I recently attended the Adventures in Marine Biology camp, and it was a blast! I learned so much, and I met a lot of great new friends. The housing was great, and the food was good. All of the counselors and instructors were very friendly (even though we did get chased all over campus by a gorrilla and a yeti, both carrying water balloons). I really enjoyed it, and I would recommend it to anybody.

I was a volunteer camp counselor at SeaCamp one summer and had a great time. SeaCamp is a program Texas A&M at Galveston sponsors. Campers spend a week in dorms at the Galveston campus and get immersed in Marine Biology topics such as: marine mammals, coastal camping, coastal ecology, marine biology/ecology. I was with the biology/ecology campers. In addition to hands on marsh seining (using a net to catch and examine marsh critters), fish printing, a tee-shirt decorating activity, boat ride out to the Gulf for sea water analysis and ocean exploration, we had daily, planned social activities and study of ocean topics. We also went out on an oyster boat, learned a great deal about oyster ecology and the oyster business and had a chance to eat really fresh, raw oysters. Ick!!! Other food is provided in the campus cafeteria and is tasty. We also went and visited Galveston Island and did touristy stuff and ate at a local restaurant. We had a beach party afterward. Sea Camp costs $775-$850, depending upon which camp you choose. There are many choices, including an ecotourism trip to Belize for $1900. All food and lodging is provided. Daily social and educational activities are included. The campers need to bring clothing, sunblock, toiletries, quarters for the laundry and spending money.
