I love Thai food. Although not from Norman, I do occasionally get that craving for Sweet Basil. I've eaten Thai all over the place, and Sweet Basil remains one of my favorites. The evil jungle curry and the green curry fried rice are my favorite menu items. The pad thai here isn't my favorite, but everyone else seems to love it. The chicken satays are also pretty amazing!! It's a small restaurant with a great atmosphere. It's good for a casual night out or an intimate date. I go back again and again! So far everyone I've introduced to this place has also loved it and gone back time and time again... family and friends included!! The staff here are very nice and capable and very very accomodating!

Pros: excellent tasting food
Cons: sometimes the service is pretty slow
that previous commenter must be from edmond-what a snob! ive lived in norman all my life and was delighted when sweet basil opened up on main street! i love the place and have tried several of the dishes. my top two would be the pad thai with tofu and glass noodle. also i enjoy the evil jungle curry with tofu. my spouse eats the jungle curry with chicken and loves it just the same. my friends and i think the atmosphere and food is just superb and highly recommend it to anyone.

Pros: food, atmosphere, good for a date
Cons: slow service, not good for kids
Okay. But just okay. I would recommend look for something a little more consistent. I have been several times and ordered the same dish. It was pretty awful this last time but I had ordered out and had no way of speaking to anyone about it. I think , having worked in kitchens as a prep cook, the place has some weaknesses that are fixable. They use local water to boil the noodles, rice and make tea. The local water here is gross. So you pay a bunch of cash to get average service and odd tasting food and drink. I guess Norman lacks many options and so many here feel its a good place. Compared to KFC and McDonald's its great.

Pros: Good when its good.
Cons: Bad when its bad.
Generally speaking, I enjoy Thai food - but I love Sweet Basil! The food is fresh and light - great variety. Plus, it is quiet - so you can actually have a conversation and enjoy those you are with. I took my father here on Father's Day - his hearing is not great, hence I am always looking for some place to go where we can actually talk and listen - Not a problem at Sweet Basil!

There are other Thai restaurants in Norman with better prices, but Sweet Basil's atmosphere is more inviting for an intimate date. I'd give their food a slight edge in quality as well. Dine here when you want the evening to be special.
