My fiance and I used TDS to procure Brazilian visas for our honeymoon. This was our first experience in surrendering our passports for a visa and we were somewhat uneasy (though statistically confident) about the process as it had to be initiated & completed in a relatively short time before our trip (90 days - See NOTE below). As PA residents, we used the New York Brazilian consulate (by Brazilian mandate) and sent our documents directly to TDS in NY as would be the procedural norm. All review sites that I found for TDS list the SFO office, perhaps because this is the company H.Q. site - My experiences were with a NYC office.
NOTE: Early stages of research indicated that a visa had to be used within 90 days of issuance. By the time we actually entered the 90 day pre-travel window and initiated the process, some information available online suggested that a visa could be issued much further ahead of time.

I am aware that this process is accomplished many times per day. However, the relative importance and comitted expense of having a honeymoon, business class tickets, and luxury reservations on the line inclined us toward extra research to ensure that we got the process right. The last thing we wanted while preparing for a wedding was to rush for replacement passports, reapply for a visa, etc (in the statistically unlikely event that our processing went wrong, passports lost, and so on).

The results of our research suggested that TDS would be a reliable option. Fortunately, prices were in line with other agencies and reviews were positive. Additionally, I liked the convenience of paying a small fee (via AmEx) to have TDS procure a Postal Money Order (required for Brazilian consulate fees) on my behalf. Other outfits required sending a money order (1 for each application) to the agency along with our visa application materials. I also like the exclusive use of FedEx shipping (worth the cost IMO) and the fact that the overnight shipping fee for returning passports/visas is applied per envelope, possibly accomodating a few passports at one cost rather than charging for each individually.

Here is our progress timeline:
Research/photos/etc done ahead of time. Not more than a few hours involved.
16Aug - Completed visa applications at home.
17Aug - Sent applications via FedEx to TDS.
24Aug - Visas received via FedEx.

Apart from outbound FedEx tracking data indicating that our application and passports had arrived in NYC as planned, no other automated "tracking" info is provided - which I find completely understandable given that the process is largely at the mercy of foreign officers. Though we were anxious given the commitment made to our honeymoon trip, the whole process was completed before I even though to ask TDS for a status update.

Ultimately, our visas were FedEx'd back to us and in hand before the charges had posted to my AmEx. I will absolutely use TDS for future travel document needs. I hope that this somewhat lengthy review will help other travellers with similar questions/concerns about timelines/procedures in this process. TDS charged a fair price and delivered quicker than promised.

OMG, they took SOOOOOO much stress off of my shoulders. I had an international flight booked and realized 10 days before my flight that my passport was expired. I did some research and found out I can get the passport in person at a US Passport Agency, I called and the soonest appointment they had was two days before my flight, rather than risking not getting my passport in time and losing my $1,700 flight I did more research and found out about these expediting services. I scoured the internet until I found a local company, TDS (as I can turn in my application by hand and then also pick my passport up as soon as it was ready).
________________________________________________
Prices are EXTREMELY cheap and competitive, I found out-of-state sites that charged over $300 for what TDS charges $195. Even better is if you turn your documents in by hand, you don't pay until they have your passport. I asked for the 24-hour service that costs $195, but they reassured me and convinced me to go with the cheaper 3-4 day service for $130 as I would still get my passport well before my flight. I got my father to turn my application in Wednesday morning, and my passport was ready Friday afternoon. Now most of my stress is gone and I can worry about my university finals coming up in six days. : )

Pros: REALLY REALLY FAST & Competative

Cons: not everyone knows about them

.

They are the best! Very reliable and responsive staff. Can make commitment and exceed expectations.

They delivered our child's passport earlier than committed date...much earlier than expectations.

Highly recommended.

I have applied for a visa, lady over the phone told me what type of documents need to be brought in to the office for particular visa. All the document were in the office same day, I believe another lady told me that: ?no, this is not the full package of document, need more?, so I had to come back again to apply for this visa. Once I brought all the documents, the lady assured me that the process of receiving my passport (with visa) will be returned to me within 5-7 business days. Please note that I applied for visa 3 weeks before my flight. So after 6 days, I called in to Travel Document Systems, Inc. To follow up, the woman picked up the phone, and after 30 minutes on hold, acknowledged me that ?unfortunately the ardency mailed my passport to different address ?since this embassy was under repair, the embassy moved to different location.? So it?s going to take another 5-7 business days, since the mail for returned and they need to resend it. I check on the web site of embassy ? it?s clearly stated that the embassy will be temporary at the different address. Logically company that I pay money to prepare documents for me, ahs to double check and make sure that are sending it to correct address.
Bottom line, I had to pay to push service delivery of my passport to me, and paid from my pocket. Since the simple visa procedure took total 29 days. And I have to fly next day. So I actually picked up my passport in the airport. My full payment for one week visa cost was about $ 500, instead of $ 120 originally.
When I asked Travel Document Systems, Inc if the money for postal services going to be reimbursed, the answer was ? no ? since I got the visa, and I should have just wait for the regular (cheaper mail) to come my way, instead of me stressing out. So I would not recommend this agency, first of all - I believe that people have no idea how to do business in this agency, second of all ? for all mistakes they make ? you going to end up paying.

If you are looking for a fast visa service at a very competitive price, look no further.
We had read reviews about their San Francisco office and decided to give them a try.TDS was fast and
their reply to my questions was prompt. Their fees are less than most visa services in San Francisco.
We sent in the required information and our passports and visas were returned in the same week. Kudos to TDS!

Pros: Fast Turnaround Time

I shopped around a fair amount looking for fast passport renewal for my upcoming honeymoon. For a good number of places, the price varied quite a bit, everything from $100 to $300 for the same service. Some of the places struck me also as potentially unreliable (i.e. it wasn't so much a business as it was a guy with a webpage and a phone). TDS struck me as credible since they were a founding member of the organization of travel document services. Also their prices were middle of the pack (I don't know that this is something you want to lowball, the risk for me was too high). In the end, I was expecting to send the documents out on monday and get them back by friday if I was lucky, monday more likely (I paid for their 48-72 hour service). Much to my surprise they processed it the same day they got it, sent it out that night and I got it the next morning. In total it was less than 48 hours from the time I dropped it in the mail to the time I had it back in my hand. Couldn't be more pleased.

I was in a bind and really needed a Visa to Brazil before leaving for France in a week. I got great service for their standard price (I was not taken advantage of), they have clear documented instructions, are responsive in their E-mail and retuning phone calls, their time estimate matched exactly how long it actually took, and I got everything back with a day to spare - what a relief! Very professional at competitive prices. Trustworthy. Fast with appropriate hand holding.

Maureen put my mind at ease and was apparently very accostomed to dealing with frantic, disorganized passport-wanting people. She was fair, nice and very quick. She called me, as promised, left messages for me with her colleagues, when I was late and missed my appointment with her and she actually carried teh passport to my car, when I couldn't find parking! She did all of this with a smile; and although I am certain she doesn't give everyone this type of hand-holding, she made me feel at ease, when I was in a dire state. Their prices are competitive too. I did the research.

This made the process of renewing my passport so easy, i would do it through them again, instead of mailing the documents in myself, to avoid any stress, in the future.

I was impressed by the fast and reliable service provided by TDS when my husband and I needed visas for China. The staff answered my questions knowledgeably and professionally over the phone, and we were pleased with the rapid processing of our applications. We received our visas just one week after sending in our applications. TDS has earned my business.

Our company started using TDS about a year and a half ago and what a great experience! We are an international company with travelers needing to leave on a moments notice with expired passports and no visa. TDS has ALWAYS had a viable solution. Not once have they missed a promised arrival date of a passport. Turn around time on standard services has always been outstanding.

Last fall, I utilized the services of TDS for some complicated travel made by officers of my company, and TDS came through. I had previously utilized a different visa company, which proved to be a disaster.

Following the trip last fall, I emailed TDS and told them what a wonderful job they do for me. I cannot begin to convey how much I appreciate how well they handle our travelers visa requirements! I work for individuals who travel a lot and who often wait until the last minute to make travel decisions. There have been days where I worried that passports would not be processed in time for our employees travel. I no longer worry. These recent visas arrived in a timely manner and were processed completely and correctly. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TDS for all passport and visa needs!
