The point for hiring a moving company is to make the move easier on myself and my family. The last time we moved, I went with a company that was completely unreliable and pretty much useless. We wound up with about $1000 worth of broken stuff, a couch that lost a leg, and several other really annoying expenses. They pretty much took the money and ran, too, so I didnt get any of that back. Never again.

Olympia gets all the stars I can give! After they heard about my experience with the other company, they went out of their way to make sure everything went well with us. Fast, professional, and NOT destructive, Olympia did a fantastic job of moving us. A big thank you to Olympia! Next time we move, well use them again. If we move again anyway.

i was skeptical at first, but Olympia ended up being a really great choice.

I have a somewhat extensive art collection of my own work as well as other artists' works, all of which I love being able to hang all over my house and just let people look at.

Of course, these pieces are all in frames on canvas so they aren't too durable. I needed a company to really take my specific directions to heart when they moved my art.

Olympia definitely did that and then some. When they showed up to start, they looked professional and attentive. They listened to my special instructions, followed them, and loaded everything onto the truck like it was no big deal. Very fun to watch, actually, because I know that a lot of the furniture I have especially is hard to even move around the room.

Before I knew it, the truck was packed and we were on our way to the new place. Unloading seemed effortless for them too - how do they do it?!

Recently, I moved into my new apartment. It was very cold day at Chicago. However, they worked very hard during cold weather and bad condition which the out stair was icing and my apartment was fourth floor. It took only three hour to finish all work including driving time.
I think this mover company is great.

I did alot of research in finding movers, as I had been in the same home for about 15 years. I had used a few movers years back and had both good and bad experiences and knew what to look for and what to avoid in finding a moving company. We moved from a single family town house to a 2 story home - with a 20 step staircase going to the second floor and a full basement. The 4-man crew arrived ahead of schedule, were fast, efficient, wrapped every item and needed very to little guidance from me besides where I wanted certain items in which room. They were more than happy to move a piece if I changed my mind on which wall I wanted a piece of furniture. They were pros and definitely knew their way around a glass table I had NO clue how to pack a 8 foot piece of glass but they did it in 2 minutes. Kudos on the whole job guys.

This company Olympia really knows there stuff! The quote there sales guy "Dan I think his name was" gave me a quote of 2 to 4 hours to move my studio from rogers to the North western campus area they did the job in 2 flat! However I am not giving a five star rating because I wanted to be picked at 1pm and they came at 2 even though I was on time for class I didn't like having to jog there!

Either way thank you Olympia!

I had THE worst experience in my entire life when I recently hired Olympia Moving and Storage Inc, (based in Skokie, IL,) to help me with my interstate moving. I am still shocked by that experience.. I am not writing this to vent out my frustration but to warn others about the level and quality of service they will get using this company should they consider hiring this company in the future for their moving needs. My rating for them is VERY POOR....However, to give credit where is deserved, the pickup part went ok, the crew who helped me pack, was courteous and helpful. Delivering my stuff was a TOTAL different story and a VERY bad one indeed. Not only they delivered my furniture approx 16 days later than the day I specifically told them that I would like to get my stuff in, but the driver who performed the delivery was out of bounds. He had an attitude all along, from the first call he made to inform me about the scheduled delivery day to the moment he arrived. Calling him rude does not even come close to describe this person. He has issues and dealing with him, was a horrible nightmare. He refused to relinquish my stuff before I paid the full balance (which was actually written in the contract) and made an entire scene when I wanted to negotiate and pay of the due balance at the beginning and the other once I got all my stuff and be able to inspect it. He made a scene, called me irate and accused me of assaulting him, and called the police. I tried to calm him down and talk things over but he was out of bounds. THE police mediated things and finally he agreed to deliver my stuff but not before I paid an additional $340 according with his calculations for "long haul" which in the contract is defined very loosely and therefore subject to interpretation. At that point I was emotionally exhausted and all I wanted was to get my stuff into my unit, and I paid the requested sum without any further discussion. I wanted the guy OUT, so I paid although later on when I read the contract, it turned out that the long haul fee as defined in the contract is a flat $75
IF youd ever choose to hire Olympia Moving and Storage, please BE AWARE. ,Iron out all the details in the contract before you sign anything and... DONT sign on the dotted line that youll pay the remaining balance you owe them BEFORE theyll transfer your stuff into your new residence. You won't have control over who will be delivering your furniture but I hope to God that Lloyd won't be the one. Hope this will be an eye opener and you guys out there will read the reviews and avoid making a poor choice and go with Olympia. And you should consider purchasing additional (or third party ) insurance. I had a number of damaged goods and the basic insurance they provide covers only $0.6 PER POUND OF DAMAGED ITEMS. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Booked my move through New Planet Moving for pickup 6/15/10 from 9-12pm in Chicago and drop off in Troy, MI on 6/22 or 6/23. They (for reasons unknown to me still) handed over the contract to Olympia Moving the morning of 6/15. I received no call the day prior as promised and Olympia called me 6/15 at 8am saying they would be there from 1-3pm. Had to rebook my condo's elevators, but Olympia still did not come during that time frame. Rebooked for 3-6pm but then said they would be there at 6pm. My building could not hold the docking bay open for them so they had to come on 6/16/10. Throughout the day was sitting in my apartment waiting for them to come or to call because Eddie (customer service) and Peter (dispatch) said they would call me back in an hour but would never return my phone calls when they said. My pick up did not occur until 1:30pm on 6/16, a day and half after the originally scheduled pick up. I had a maid and incoming tentent waiting for the movers to finish at 4:30pm on 6/16.
I was then told I would be called in the next few days with the delivery date and the final price (move was based on weight). I waited until 6/18 but did not hear anything. I called both New Planet and Olympia on 6/18 without any return phone calls. Called again on 6/19 (Saturday, but Olympia claims on their website that they are open from 10-4pm on Saturdays) without anyone answering the phone; left messages but no call back.
Waited until late morning on Monday for a return phone call and when I did not receive one, I called again. Spoke to multiple people that day, including the owner, Shia Cohen, who says they gave me $100 off for the trouble. Spoke to Eddie in customer service who said delivery was scheduled for Wed 6/23 to Fri 6/25. Told him that when I booked with New Planet, they told me that it would be delivered on 6/22 or 6/23 because I knew I had to be out of town on 6/24 and 6/25. Eddie said he would call me the next morning between 10 and 11am with more info and would try to get the delivery on Wed 6/23. He never called the next morning. When I finally called around 3pm on 6/22, he said he had "come in late" that morning so he didn't get around to calling. He said the delivery would occur late on Wed afternoon/evening. I waiting all day Wednesday without word from Olympia. Finally I called that evening around 4 or 5pm. They then informed me that the movers wouldn't be coming until the following morning (Thurs 6/24). I told Peter and Eddie that I needed to be in Chicago by 4pm on 6/24 to give a speech for a Grand Opening event and that the delivery had to happen in the morning; I had to leave by 11am. Peter told me the driver would be there at 7:30am. He refused to give me the driver's number, saying the driver would call me in an hour. The driver never called.
The morning of 6/24, I waited in my apartment from 7am onwards. I received no phone call from the driver until 9am, at which time he told me that he would be there at 11:30am. I was angry that it was delayed. The driver said he did not know he was supposed to be there at 7:30am. I arranged it so I could be there to let them in at 11:30am and tell them where things should go, then I would leave, they would finish delivering the items and someone from my apt complex would lock up. However, by 11:30am, the driver was still stuck in traffic. I waited until 12:20pm without any word and then started driving to Chicago. I called the driver and said that I couldn't wait any longer or I would be late to my event. I told him he could deliver the stuff but I was not leaving the money; I would send the money once I was sure everything had been delivered. Recieved a call from Peter saying they would leave my stuff in a storage unit if I didn't return for the delivery, essentially holding my stuff for ransom. I had no choice but to return and had to miss my event, calling my bosses to tell them I couldn't be there.
Several of my items were damaged (and I still have not heard from Olympia about reimbursement for those; it has been over a week). I asked for a weight slip TWICE during the delivery and realized later that they never gave it to me.

Under no circumstances should you even think about using this company for your move. They are nothing more than common thieves disguised as a moving company. Once they have your belongings on their truck, they basically hold it for ransom. I cannot express strongly enough how horrible this company, their people, and their service truly is!

Response from this business:

Hello Dennis I am so sorry for experiance with our comapny. i was serching your name in our data base and couldnt find it. can you please let me know your job number so i can relate to your move and if you will give me the chance to rectify any issues that was going on with your move i will do so. thank you shai

The process was pleasant from the onset, with the scheduler on the phone describing their rate structure and what to expect on the day of the move with the utmost customer service. On the day of the move five guys showed up exactly on time and worked flawlessly. It was a record heat weekend and never once did I find that they were slacking off or taking it easy. They were meticulously careful with my belongings. (While it's painful to see $100+ in tape and box costs, when I saw how well padded everything was and found it to have arrived without damage, it was worth it.) Terrific work all around.

We were very happy with our move from a 2nd floor apt. to a 3rd floor apt. Alex and the two guys working with him were careful, fast and charges were what I was quoted. I'll use them again for my next move.

I am very disappointed in this company. You have been warned. I was quoted 875.00 for a move that when the movers started added on little charges for this and that it came up to 1713.00 which is basically double. I had to borrow money from everyone I knew just to get them to pull out of the driveway. When I called to complain I got no sympathy and the word of the movers was believed over the customer.

For $1450 i was able to have a move done from Chicago Illinois to Texas. I had a 2 bedroom house. I called other places in Chicago which wanted to charge me way over $3000!!! Olympic gave me the best deal by far! I couldn't have chosen a better company. The sales reps were friendly, the movers were fast, hard working, polite, and gentle with everything! The sales rep Zula was one of the nicest person i have ever talked to she made my move so much less hectic and stressful. Thank god for Olympic!

These guys were great. They worked very quickly, and took care when wrapping and moving all of my belongings. I moved out of a building with a very narrow and steep stairwell and they did not have any difficulties, and did not damage my furniture, or the walls. The guys were very professional, and made me feel comfortable (as a girl moving alone, this was important to me). They also had very competitive prices, which is always a big plus! The guy I dealt with on the phone Ben reed was also very friendly and helpful I believe. I had to change my move date after I had already made my reservation and they had no problem switching days for me. I would definitely recommend them to friends and plan on using them again in the future.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY for your future moving needs. Do yourself a favor and reserach it before you sign up with , them. My moving experience from Chicago to Hoston using Olympia Moving was the morst horrifying experience I ever had, and by that I mean the delivery part not the pickup one, which was ok. They delayed my delivery date by 16 days, the driver that performed the delivery was absolutely beyond control, his customer service could be rated -1000 , he insulted me, used expletitives, threatened me to take my property back tostorage if I won't pay him upfront the remaining balance, BEFORE his helpers would deliver my stuff to the apt, charged me an additonal $340 to deliver my staff to my apt because the term "entrance" in the contract is vague therefore subject to his interpreatation. As a single woman, I was helpless and defensless with this guys and at the end of my wits after the whole movign part was over. DO NOT use this company, if you want to preserve your sanity and cash and get the level of customer service you are paying for.

I would not advise anyone to use Olympia Moving and Storage based in Skokie, IL. We were moving from Illinois to Connecticut and our contract stated that deliveries of 601-1000 miles would be made in 1-10 business days. Our customer service rep, Zula, also stated that there were trucks going to CT twice a week. She assured us that we would receive our delivery within 7-10 business days. After giving her an exhaustive list of our belongings and # of boxes that we would be moving, I received a quote of $1983 based on 4,000 pounds. Once the contents of our condo were placed on the truck and weighed (now it's suddenly almost 5,000 pounds), the price shot up to almost $3,000 (almost $300 of that was from the enormous amount of tape and boxes that the movers used). We started calling the company the following week to determine the status of our delivery. We were told a different story every time we called. Finally, after sitting in a warehouse for 2 weeks, our items were packed onto a moving truck and departed from Illinois. When our delivery finally arrived on business day #12, there were only 2 people to unload the truck (the driver and some kid that he hired locally). It took them 6 hours to unload our items and bring them into our apartment. Olympia had stated that disassembly and reassembly were included in the charges. The driver and his kid assistant did not even try to reassemble our computer desk. They also put our bed frame together so haphazardly that we had to reassemble it ourselves for fear of it collapsing. I contacted the company to see about compensation for them being late and they offered me a measly $15/business day that they were late. They seem to think that being late is totally acceptable and will pretty much tell you so over the phone. Please DO NOT use this company for your moving needs. They will overcharge you, will not deliver on time as stated in their contract, and will not return your phone calls.

Also, if they lose any boxes, don't expect to be compensated. Unless you can identify everything that was in the box and produce receipts for those items, they will not pay. Who keep receipts for everything that they own???

moved a few weeks ago with these guys and was very impressed with the service I received. The guys worked really fast and were extremely efficient. The quote Bridgette gave me was right on target as well. No damage to my furniture nor walls either! Very very pleased and will without a doubt use Olympia again and gladly refer them!

Pros: fast! cheap! efficient!

Cons: none

April 26, 2010

just want to write a quick recommendation. We used these guys a few weeks and couldn't say enough about their service. The guys were extremely proffesional, moved swiftly, and quite friendly and great price I must add. Great job!

Pros: Fast

Cons: none

April 16, 2010

Olympia did a really proffesional job. The crew used their time quite efficiently as well as swiftly I might add. The price was really reasonable as well. Im happy to refer their services to any one looking to relocate.

April 10, 2010

I wanted to write you and your team a quick Thank You for my move last weekend. I have to say, I have moved several times over the years and have had both good and bad experiences, this by far was a great one. Alex and James were excellent, careful, and never stopped moving, and amazingly, not one thing was broken or scratched, not even a wine glass. You should know that I will be recommending your company to all my friends and family when movers are needed

Pros: Great crew

Cons: none

March 23, 2010

TOTAL SCAM - Olympia Moving and Storage is a fraudulant company! AVOID!!! THEY HAVE an F rating on BBB! They keep changing their address and name slightly... Olympic versus Olympia , then 4901 Main St, now 8820 Skokie Blvd. #228 Skokie, IL 60077.

Movers picked up my items in a budget truck. SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THE DRIVERS WERE NOT IN AN OLYMPIA TRUCK AS INDICATED ON THEIR WEBSITE

totally unprofessional, no one returned my calls or emails (even after extensive delays in pick up and drop off dates). this was a long distance, out of state move.

After waiting over a month and assuming my personal belongings were missing or damaged, the driver finally calls and schedules a delivery at 5pm. Received a phone call at 9:00pm that the driver was outside my place (not an acceptable time to receive a delivery - not to mention that it's dark and I can't inspect my items properly). The driver tells me to drive my car to the gate of the complex. He doesn't think he will be able to deliver my items.

I drive to the gate. The driver is in a huge semi-truck. The driver tells me he has to ride in my car so I can show him where I live (and i'm a single woman by the way - and it's 9:15 at night). We drive up to my unit...He tells me, "no way." We can't deliver this. We're not going to fit." So I ask him what I'm supposed to do? I've been waiting for over a month for my stuff. He says it doesn't surprise him - he is an outsourced mover EVEN THOUGH ON OLYMPIA'S WEBSITE THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT A BROKER - and "your items don't change hands" He then proceeds to tell me I need to pay $400 for him to transfer my items to a smaller truck so they can deliver (obviously neither Shirish - the "sales man" nor Eddie - the long distance coordinator mention this possibility to me upfront) The driver then says this is a major inconvenience TO HIM! He had plans to go to the next delivery. Since all the moving truck companies (Budget, Uhaul) are closed, he tells me we need to wait until first thing in the morning so they can get the truck and do the transfer. I have a major deadline and important meeting the next morning - I wasn't able to go to work

They bring in my items - a disgusting mess. The movers are not in uniform, they are dirty and wearing their pajamas. All my boxes are smashed, some glass is broken, screws are missing from my bed (they can't re-assemble my bed as stated in the contract -also, they said they wouldn't be able to put it back together (even if they had the screws) because they weren't the movers who disassembled it, and wouldn't know how to put it back together), big tear at the bottom of my chair, huge scratches on my expensive glass tables, huge scratch on the headboard to my bed frame, scratch on my bar stools, back of my dresser had fallen off (the entire dresser was broken and wobbly), damage to my nightstands, and MY QUEEN MATTRESS WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED- they rolled the whole thing up in plastic! the coils were all bent!

I call both Eddie and Shirish telling them how disappointed I am. They never return my calls, emails. I finally get in touch with Shirish (he answered the phone). After I tell him how horrible this experience has been for me, he says, "Gosh, ... I'm sorry. Someone will call you back."

No follow-up from anyone. HOW TERRIBLE! SAVE THE HEADACHE! AVOID

Pros: NONE

Cons: FRAUDULENT COMPANY

I don't know about others, but my experience was nothing more but POSITIVE!!! 5 STARS all the way. My family was very happy. My father even gave them all tips $20 per person. These guys arrived right on time and did a grand job. ...

Great Job Olympia! Alfredo, I hired your movers for the second time in last 10 months. As with the first experience with your company, the second time exceeded my expectations even further. On a very short notice, I called Olympia Moving and they managed to gather a crew of 3. Every one of your employees who worked for had the same high level of professionalism and courtesy as the first crew. As a business owner, I can say - your employees are outstanding. They take pride in what they do! That is highly commendable. I cannot say enough and do highly recommend your company. I will pass out your brochure to everyone that enquires and needs to move. Keep up the good work!!!

I have used Olympia Moving Company for my move, and it was simply Outstanding! The set-up was great, customer service, but what really made the difference were the movers themselves. All three were hard working, took their job seriously and were very personable; I have moved 2 times in the last 3 years in the Chicago area and this was the first one that was problem-free and the first one where the movers were skilled and immensely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend their service to anyone moving in the Chicago area.. Very friendly and outgoing. Good experience over all.

I had a fantastic experience with Olympia Moving and I've used a lot of movers and bad experiences in the last 10 yrs I've been in Chicago. We moved out of a 3 bdrm duplex, 2nd floor. And we had A LOT of stuff. We moved out 1 day, stored our things on the truck for 2 nights, and moved into a 5 bedroom house in Naperville on another day. We also had them stop by our suburban storage facility to pick up even more of our things. Both move days went so smoothly! I only paid for 3 men, but on the first day, they brought 8 men and my move out was done in 2 hrs! Then during move in, I again paid for 3 men, but they had at least 4 men and we got everything done in just a few hours. My total bill was right in line with the estimate. They give you free wardrobe boxes, which are awesome, and they were very careful with all our things. And they were super fast - I have never seen people move that quickly. I will never use another moving company, Olympia Moving was amazing and all the guys there were so nice and helpful! We had James as the Manager on site and he was wonderful. I definitely recommend them to anyone
Thank you, Olympia Moving !! I will not use another moving company besides you as long as I live in Chicago!

I was a little dubious about hiring movers, especially moving from a 2,000 sq foot apartment with 10 years worth of stuff. The Olympia Moving crew put my mind at ease; they were extremely professional from my initial estimate query over the phone, to a prompt arrival and exceptionally speedy move. I was impressed that there were 6 guys, with a manager who assessed the situation and basically oversaw the details to ensure a smooth load and unload. The crew was friendly and courteous, and very respectful of my belongings, and my new condo. It was a pretty big move, with a lot of bulky items, from a vintage high-rise with a freight elevator (which can be very time consuming). The guys had us loaded and unloaded in roughly 5 1/2 hours, coming in under their time estimate, and even slightly under their price estimate. Definitely go with these guys for a hassle free worry free move. Thanks guys.

Moved this past Friday and I had an awesome experience with Olympic Moving! I had a 4 man crew and they arrived 10 minutes early, they were scheduled to move us out by 7:00 a.m. My fianc and I had selected things we wanted moved and they didn't have a problem with that.
I went to Starbucks to get them a breakfast sandwich and they didn't even stop to eat. They were fast, efficient and HARD working! We moved out of a small one bedroom apartment and my fianc had a storage unit at Public Storage. They moved us into our third floor, two bedroom condo. We had some heavy furniture (sofa bed) and they moved everything with ease. They were done with everything in about 4 hours and we appreciated everything they did for us. I highly recommend Olympic Moving and we will use them again when we move :)

BOY O BOY! I was moving from Skokie to downtown Chicago and I had ALOT of stuff... I though I wouldn't need a moving company and could do it all by myself. Man was I wrong. I had 1 day left until I had to leave my apartment so I called my buddy who had recently moved. He told me to call Olympic. He said they were fast, affordable, and professional. For a Chicago moving company they were amazing! They came on time, they gave me free boxes, and they helped me with everything! NOTHING WAS DAMAGED EVEN!!!! The lady whom I spoke to was so nice, and couldn't have made me feel any less stressed out. I believe her name was Adi ... anyways I would recommend Olympic moving and storage to EVERYONE!!!!! Easy 5 out of 5!

Pros: Great Service

Its such a relief I found Olympic movers in time for my move. God Olympic is a life saver! I had a last minute move from Michigan to Skokie. I called 2 days before my move, and they luckily were available. I have moved 2 times in the past, and these movers were the best moving company i have ever used. I would recommend Olympic movers to anyone inside or outside of Chicago!

Pros: Best Movers

I moved from Ohio to Chicago, I had received several estimates inaccordance with my HR departments guidleines for reimbursement. Of course they force you to go with te cheapest one. This concerned me big time considering this company was about 15% cheaper than the other 2. On moving day I was suprised to see a full crew on time... I expected delays and excuses. Instead they got right to work and had my home loaded intwo hours. I lucked out but the truck was on a return trip to Chicago and I got my things the next evening delivered by the same guys. Everything looked good and they even put together some furniture I had taken apart. I don't see how they offer this service so cheap without going out of business.

Pros: Awesome sales staff

Cons: Only 2 of the 3 movers spoke full english

I was in a real budget crunch and called every mover in the yellow pages. These guys had some pretty good prices. Last time I moved I got taken for $150 bucks for tape. these guys give all the material for free. They even bubble wrapped and boxed my lcd for free. Awesome move. Couldn't have been happier.

Pros: cheap, fast, honest

Cons: dont take discover
