We first visited this pub on 05/23 - we were, of course, skeptical about the glowing self-description on the website.

But the service that night was excellent (Brad), and the Shepherd's Pie delicious! We tried Smithwicks for the first time and now have a new favorite ale. Lonestar Stout was performing; we'd never heard them before, but now we have a CD - we'll be back to see them again.

We visited again on 05/30 to see one of our favorite Celtic bands, Flying Fish Sailors. The Traditional Boxty I tried was excellent. I intend to try something new every visit. We had the same server, Brad, who was again attentive without being intrusive.

Flying Fish Sailors was even more enjoyable than they were at the Renaissance Festival. Too bad the guy behind the bar had to keep heckling them by yelling "Freebird." Once is amusing - four times is annoying. If he really is a manager, maybe he needs more training.

The Angel & The Ox is our new local go-to spot, and we've already spread the word. Try it, you'll love it!

Pros: Bands, Smithwicks, Boxtys, Shepherd's Pie

Cons: Bartender yelling, "Firebird" when a band is playing

This place is full of character and ambiance. I love the live music and that it's NON-SMOKING. The staff is great and the food is out of this world, not your typical pub food. They have a great selection of beers on tap too, some you won't find anywhere else in Katy. They show major sporting events on their big screen too especially Soccer and Rugby. Great place to eat and stay for drinks and lively entertainment. I can't wait to go back!!

The first year is going to be a rocky one. They need almost an entirely new staff, which will eventually happen on its own. Also, when I order Shepherd's Pie, it should be pie, not soup.

Happy so happy to find out they serve Tennets beer. (FROM GLASGOW)
Service was slow and hard to hear waitress when she was telling me about a dish I had ordered. Found chip portions to be on "stingy" side on my guests plates. Will give it another shot however. Place is clean thou could use some more "decor" from Ireland

We couldn't wait for and Irish Pub to open in Katy! My husband and I frequent the pubs back home and really needed a mature place to hang out that isn't swarming with the young ones. I can't believe they've only been open 2 months! What a great place! They have a great beer selection and THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS I'VE EVER HAD..... The Boxty's are to die for too. I'm partial to the Chicken and Sage. We tried the brunch a few wknds ago and in one word, scrumptious!!! I recommend the Dublin Morning Lawyer. The Bloody Mary Bar is a nice treat as well. We got to meet the owners and they couldn't be more genuine. They are working so hard to make this a success and they've done their job in our eyes.

This is one of those bars where you find yourself asking "what do I have to do to get a drink in here?" A few friends and I went with high expectations. However, we sat at a table for more than 20 minutes without receiving the beers we ordered, so we relocated to the bar where we not only had to ask a pretty young lady sitting there to flag down the bartender for us but were then told that we had to close out our tab with our previous waitress before starting one at the bar. I've never been in another bar that works that way. The bartenders were much friendlier than the floor wait staff (our waitress in particular was quite rude), and much better trained however they still seemed unable to keep up with the large crowd. We did try an appetizer and it was only so-so. The lighting in the bar is absolutely terrible, especially when sitting at the bar itself. Even other customers joked with us about feeling like we were all under interrogation lights. All in all it was not worth the incredibly over-priced alcohol that we waited forever to receive. I guess we'll be sticking with Baker's Street after all.

So I have been waiting quite a while to go to this place. I wanted to get it over it's first month and then try it out. I decided to go on Sat 22nd Feb with friends and then on Fri 20th I got an email from the bar's mailing list comfirming the Blaggards were playing with no cover. Great we thought, dinner than a live band. We are from Scotland so were looking forward to some good beer and good tunes.

We arrived just after 7pm for dinner and were turned away as BP had supposedly booked out the whole place. Peeved off we headed elsewhere for dinner then came back around 9 for the band, it took quite an effort to get served at the bar but eventually we got a drink. We tried for a follow up drink with no luck so opened a tab with one of the waitresses and it took 30 mins for our drinks to arrive. Frustrating? Yes very.

We tried to speak with the owner but he simply blamed it on a lot more demand than he expected. I pointed out I was on his mailing list and I didn't know there was a private function to which he replied I was one of several hundred. We tried to raise our issues with him and he was rather insistent he had regulars that had no complaints.

I have already heard of one 'British' group who were planning to have a meet up within this bar but cancelled due to bad reports from others.

I was planning to take an American Girlfriend there for her birthday but will be making alternative plans.

It is just down the road from me and I so wanted this to be a place that I would love going to. Somehow I just don't see it and it is a bit of a shame..........

The food was phenomenal. Me & hubby both adored the boxty!

The bartenders were friendly, fun & professional even with the shortage of some beers as noted in other reviews. Once the inventory is stocked up though, this will surely be the best beer selection I've found in Katy. Great UK beer selection on tap including hard to find Tennants. We also liked that the owner was on premises mingling with guests, very personal touch not to be found in similar chain bars/restaurants.

Very clean, classy environment & great live music too. We will definitely recommend this place to friends in the future!

I haven't had fresh fried Cod like this since I was living in Boston. Further, the selection of beers reminded me of my visits to Europe. The night I went there was a solo guitarist that played songs for everyone at a volume where you could still carry on a conversation.

I'm meeting a friend from England and look forward to his reaction.

Cheers,

Jim

This is our 2nd time here. The first time the wait staff and bartenders didn't know what they are doing. We went back for the 2nd time, had the best witress there, SARAH. The bar ran out of almost all of their beers, have you ever heard of a pub out of beer? People were leaving because they couldn't get a beer. We did stay because the music was great, and we had fun wathcing the other patrons having such a great time. Hopefully the next time we go back, they will have stocked the bar...
As far as the decor, I agree, the place is cold and non-descript. The place doesn't have a cozey pub feeling.
Hopefully, this is to come.

We heard good things about this place, but when we visited it was a big let down. Waitstaff was not up to par including their attire, most of the happy hour food is fried, music was so loud you could not carry on a conversation and overall ambience was like a loud sports bar.

My husband & I were so excited to get to this new pub in Katy. When you walk in you are struck by the rich warm feeling in the dark woods and nicely done decor. At dinner time tables are packed by all ages enjoying the nice atmosphere and food. We enjoyed drinks while trying out the Sausage Rolls appetizer, yum! The brown sauce was delicious and the app was perfect for 2 to share. I am surprised by comments of those who don't think this can compete with Baker's Street pub. Quite honestly, it's in a different league. If you want to go to an obnoxious smoky loud place to pick someone up, sure go to Bakers. But if you want to enjoy good food and drink, relax and listen to the band...by all means The Angel and The Ox is the place to go. The wait staff is still working out the kinks but their attitudes are great and we had great service. We will be back!!

We have been in twice and really love the food and drink selection. As with any brand new restaurant, the waitstaff are still learning and this will only improve. Everyone was super friendly and I see huge potential. The fish and chips are great, love the garlic truffle oil on the chips (fries). I'd go back over and over again just for those. But you must try the french onion soup....loved it! I didn't try the shepard pie..yet, others said it was "the best ever." I can't wait to watch this locally owned pub grow and I will continue to frequent here to show my support!!

My husband and I spent quite a lot of time in Ireland years ago when he was working in Londonderry. We loved the Irish Pubs with their music, wonderful food, unique drinks and warm ambiance. We enjoyed some of the same things in Katy at the new Angel and the Ox Irish Pub this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. They were quite busy and understandably still working out some of the kinks, but the waitresses were very friendly and did their best to get things out as fast as possible. The owner came by to check on us once and everyone had a wonderful time.
Today we went back for the Sunday brunch and the food was incredible. The boxty pancakes (potatoe and wheat) are to die for and the cream scrambled eggs with Irish cream and chives was also very good. We took all four grandkids and several adults and I've never seen a table of eight (especially all four kids) clean their plates so well. There was hardly a morsel of food left!! The adults also enjoyed the Bloody Mary bar and mimosas. It's fun to relive our days in Ireland right here in Katy with family and friends!!

We were anxiously awaiting the opening of this restaurant. We were disappointed by the service - the waitstaff seemed confused and not prepared on the menu or the operations. The food and drinks were very overpriced - the portions are extremely small. The atmosphere was not at all what I expected. It was not very warm and inviting. We are not sure if they were just ill prepared to open or if the just aren't going to be able to compete with the Bakers Street Pub a few miles away. The one thing that is nice is that it is non smoking. We will have to see if we hear anything different before we give it another try.

My husband and I were really looking forward to this place opening.
We both ordered the Fish n Chips. They were not that great. First off, the portion was a total rip off. The piece of fish was small, my husband's piece was much larger than mine yet the plates both cost $9.99. ??? The chips were really good but, neither the fish nor the chips were hot in temperature when they were served. You can order one or two pieces of fish but, our waitress didn't ask us which portion we wanted and brought us unequal portions of the same order.
Our waitress never returned to see how our meal was, forgot salt and pepper on the table, never asked us if we wanted another drink or even a glass of water. I would have asked for some water had she returned to the table.
The atmosphere was cold in temperature and far from a cozier feeling of a real pub. No booths and definately is just a bar. There are way better pubs in the states than this one. The above reviewer must not have travelled much. A good pub has great Fish n Chips, great atmosphere and great value for the money. I will say the beer is reasonably priced but, if we are going to eat out I'd rather pay more for the beer and get a good meal. The tartar sauce was pretty good.
Maybe they are ironing out some kinks as they just opened but, don't think their best foot was put forward in the Fish n Chips department.

It is probably the only authentic Irish Pub in the Houston Area. The menu is diverse and offers fare not usually seen in pubs on this side of the Atlantic, great staff and the Owners really seem set on authenticity, it is quite refreshing.
