Free oil change huh? Wondering what the catch is? Come here if you want to get snowballed by incompetent mechanics, overpriced repairs, and from what I can tell outright missdiagnosis or worse. Thanks for nothin Columbia. I'm going to Green dog!

I've been to Columbia Rovers now for several visits, and have never been impressed by neither their service nor their prices. I didn't know their were options beyond the dealer until they put a free oil change coupon on my car, and I was at first very hopeful.

My gut reaction upon meeting the owner, Brent, was that something wasn't right. I should have trusted my instincts, but something was definitely off about him. His other manager wasn't much better, but hey free oil change right?

After waiting over two hours to get the oil change done, something about the right filter not being in stock, I was finally approached with a huge list of repairs my car needed, including gaskets, heads, and a strong possibility that my engine was already dead, and couldn't be determined until I invested big money into tearing it a part.

My car has under 70,000 miles and these engines are supposed to last forever. I'd never overheated, and never had any serious issues. The dealership told me I had leaking valve cover gaskets a few months prior, but that it wasn't a pressing issue. I thought they were just squeezing me. That was nothing compared to this.

I left with just the oil change, telling them I'd need to check my finances first. Shortly after, I started noticing serious oil leaking underneath my car... Not happy.

I then scheduled another appointment back with the Dealership to get a second opinion. Not only did they find that my oil was nearly empty, as the OIL FILTER HAD NOT BEEN SCREWED ON TIGHTLY ENOUGH... But the only other motor leak present was still just valve cover gaskets.

I don't know if they're outright liars, or just massively incompetent. Regardless, I will steer every last Land Rover owner I ever meet away from Columbia Rovers.

I was recommended to Brent at Columbia Rovers by another LR owner, and after one trip I will not take my Discovery anywhere else. The service they provided was extraordinary, Brent took the time to show me around his shop and allowed me to see the work they were doing, and when it came time for the bill he was a lot more reasonable than he should have been. All he asked was that I share the good news, so I am following up on my promise. If you're an LR owner and want it taken care of in the best way possible, take it to Brent.

Absolutely the best repair and maintenance service that I have had on my Land Rover. They are straight forward and their prices are fair. The prices are excellent and they are extremely flexible with scheduling. Would recommend over Land Rover Portland.

I have been taking my 2003 DII to Brent and his team at Columbia Rovers Portland for the past two years. They provide excellent service when it comes to scheduled maintenance all the way up to expedition outfitting. The guys have been a great help with questions on tire choices, lift kit options and accessories to outfit my vehicle for how I want to use it.

I recently had major engine repairs performed by Brent and his staff at Columbia Rovers, and feel compelled to endorse their service and professionalism. During the late summer my 95 RR classic overheated, requiring extensive repairs, under a tight time-frame and, times as they are, a strict budget. They repaired the engine promptly, on budget, [exactly as quoted] so there was no surprise bill, or a disappointment for services delivered. They diagnosed a faulty fuel pump, the only work beyond the scope of the estimate, and called to apprise me of its' costs.

They were a joy to deal with in all regards, are knowledgeable enthusiasts for all things Land Rover. Even winning over me, a dedicated d-i-y Brit car guy. There's times to tend to my 'mistress' and times to deliver it to others. I might mention that PDX, a local alternative, quoted thousands $$$$ more for the same work...

I highly recommend CR as the only team to consider as a reasonably priced, fully informed alternative to the dealership for your Landy or Range Rover. Thanks Brent!

I recently had major engine overheating damage repaired by Brent and the team at CR. The quote for the work was thousands less than PDX quoted. Furthermore they accomodated my budget and time constraint. They had it done promptly [amazingly prompt], and it runs magnificently now, as new even with 118k mi. They replaced the fuel pump as the only work outside the scope of the original estimate, after apprising me of this necessity. I typically would repair my beloved mistress myself, but the scope of the work was not enticing this Portland winter-I'll recommend them enthusiastically: they're knowledgeable, honest and rebuild faith in the Land Rover service trade locally. Will return for the next major item...it is after-all still a Range Rover. Highly recommended.

I had some major engine work done recently. The work was completed on time and I think only the appropriate repairs were done. The actual charges matched the estimated amount and the truck is running fine The only complaint is that the standard repair rates charged by Columbia are excessive. I did not comparison shop because of my time constraints, but congratulations to the owners who likely gross ~ $3M annually from this shop. I agree with other posters that many of the posts sound fishy.

I purchased my first Land Rover at the end of '09 A beautiful
2001 Discovery II, I wanted to get it thoroughly checked out,
and was recommended to the "other guys" in town ~ mistake.
It did need alot of work done but the estimate was let's say,
excessive... so I was re-directed to Columbia Rovers and it being my first time I was given an internet discount which was much appreciated, but more than that Brent and Josh were never too busy to answer my questions. After I got the Rover back a few days later a strange noise was coming from the steering column. I wasn't able to have it looked at till 2 months later because of my work schedule. I took it in on a Friday around 2 pm and they immediately tested it and told me I needed to have the steering column pump replaced (1st replacement was failing) which they did right then and there
at no charge ~ they definitely guarantee their work and did I mention it was a Friday afternoon ? If you love your Rover and want to treat it right - take it here, these guys love Rovers too
and care about customer satisfaction.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Columbia Rovers. I made an appointment to have the fuel pump in my Discovery I replaced and was told by Brent, that they could see it the following afternoon for sure but possibly could be seen if I get the D1 there in the morning. So I arrange to have AAA deliver it that morning. I even called to notify Columbia Rovers that the tow truck was en route to their location with my vehicle. Upon calling a person who claimed to "not be the normal person who answers the phone" answers and explains that the owner Brent and JD are in a meeting. I leave my name and contact info to ensure they are aware who the SUV belongs to. I wait until 3pm on the day of delivery and call to inquire about when it will be complete. I am told that they had no idea whose vehicle it was and hadn't been touched yet. Frustrated, I asked how much longer it would be. They apologized and said it would be done by days end. A couple of hours later I get the call that the service is finished. I pick the D1 up and all seems well. Until I notice the next day that in the replacement process my rear cargo carpeting was torn in 6 separate spots. I call to alert them of this and am asked to bring it in for inspection. I do so that very day and am greeted by Brent who was less than sorry about the damage. He agrees to replace it but doesn't appear remorseful. I am left with a very poor overall experience.

** Update**
1 day after picking up my Land Rover from Columbia Rovers the newly installed fuel pump is not working properly. I call to notify Brent again of another problem with their workmanship and am told, "that is a new pump.." when I correct him that the receipt that he himself handed me listed it as "REBUILT". He then starts to back peddle and says, "it's my vehicles original assembly but the pump is new." SO it appears he selling me my own original equipment back to me for $400+ of my hard earned money. After this 3rd strike against this so called repair facility I started do some investigating into all of these positive reviews of this company. My findings are that they are responsible for the majority of these false positive reviews. That's right, they are posting positive reviews about themselves in order to present themselves as something more than they are not. I have traced each positive review by their IP and have also noticed that each "reviewer" only created their reviewing account to post one single review. And that one review is praising their service. Sounds awful fishy to me.

I recently purchased a 2003 Discovery II from a local dealer. As is often the case it was shiny on the outside but after a visit to Columbia Rover I found it needed some love (head gasket). I admit I was nervous since I knew little about Columbia Rover just that I had driven by it a million times. I know how important it is to have a mechanic and shop you can trust since cars these days are too complicated to work on your self. Before moving to Portland I had a few trusted shops to work on my cars and I only hoped that I could find the same here.

To my delight I found that Brent and the guys at Columbia fit the bill. Brent gave it to me straight he gave me good advise and was very straight forward to deal with. I have gone back one time so far for a simple oil change and they continue to look after me.

Thanks guys I'll see you next time my Disco needs some love.

I have always wanted a Land Rover, I was looking all over the PNW for the one I wanted. I called and talked to Brent, he was very informative and asked me several questions pertaining to the use of my vehicle and then recommended a short list of what I should look for in a choice.

After finding the Land Rover I wanted to purchase Brent told me that it was a good deal and I bought the Disco II. I have enjoyed the vehicle and take it out on the logging roads every weekend with my family.

Last week I noticed that there was a noise coming from the drive train, I called Brent on a Saturday and he had me come in on Monday. They where very busy and informed me that it may take a little longer to get to my vehicle... They called me in half the original time to tell me that my Disco was finished.

They have a customer for life!!!

These guys are awesome! I purchased a 2002 Landrover Discovery two years ago and quickly found I was in over my head! Brent is always able to answer all of my questions (numerous), but what I appreciate most is their willingness to work with my budget and schedule. They're service is prompt, reliable, courteous and their estimates are always exactly what they "estimate". I checked out two other Rover service centers in Portland and Tacoma and had extremely negative experiences. I tried Columbia Rovers based upon internet reviews and I've never been disappointed. They're definitely worth everyone of the five stars they're rated!

We called with very short notice to get an oil change. Came in at Noon and left the vehicle. We walked 4 blocks to NW 23rd and had a great lunch. Walked back and the vehicle was done. What can I say, the service was great and it was very convenience for me and my family.

Everyone was very friendly, informative, and prompt. They got my 02' Disco. in for its 90K service on short notice along with some unexpected added repairs and completed the job in a day so that I didn't have to go with out my truck. Their prices came in abetter than the local Rover dealer where I had been going. They also offered me a new client discount which was an added bonus. I'll be returning to Columbia Rovers in the future for my truck's maintenance and repair needs. I highly recommend them.

I greatly appreciate the customer care that they provide me and my Rover with each visit. Recommending preventative service to keep the Rover on the road trouble-free but not performing services that are unnecessary as I have experienced elsewhere.
For me, it's an 85 mile drive each way to Columbia Rovers and certainly worth it for their expertise in resolving all those quirks that we know and love living with a Rover. How many dealers do you know will schedule service on the customer's schedule - and they have even driven me out to PDX to catch an early morning flight. My Rover always enjoys it's visit to the Columbia Rover Day Spa and so do I. I will continue to recommend them to others.

Had my Rover in for it's 120,000 miles service along with a needed service repair. It was my first try with using them. They were ready to take my car in right away and had it serviced and ready for me by the end of the same day.

Great communication during the entire process and didn't worry at all about my car not being completed correctly. Going to the actual Land Rover Dealership in Portland had become a pain when it took a while to get in and then you never had it completed the same day.

I will continue to use Columbia Rovers for my Land Rover servicing.

Pros: Quick Service, Affordable Pricing, Great Communication,

Cons: Location for me...but with planning it works.

My wife and I have been taking our '96 Discovery to Columbia Rovers for about two years. They have fixed the window risers, wiper motor, and replaced the radio. They have done engine diagnostics, fixed electrical and emissions problems, and even found used body parts so I could do my own repairs. Their work has always been done right, their prices are fair, and the people at Columbia Rovers are always friendly.

I lived out of town in Eugene, but was in Portland for the weekend and dropped my car off due to some unexpected annoyances and they were so accommodating to my special needs. They even gave me and my 1 year old a ride back to my hotel while they worked on it. They gave me a fair price along with exceptional service and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I now live in Portland and it feels so good to know that I found such a reliable and trusted people.

If you are a Land Rover owner and looking for a quality shop with great prices and expert knowledge shop no farther. I just purchased my first Land Rover a 2000 Disco 2. I knew I needed a shop to go over my new Disco and found Columbia Rover to be outstanding. Brent and Josh have taken extra time out of there busy day on several occasions to answer my abundance of questions. Brent even had one of the mechanics go over my Disco to let me know if there were any problems looming. And for this service they didn??t charge me a dime.

I've owned a Land Rover for years. I've been to the Dealership and the competition. The only Reason I went into "Columbia" Rovers, was a free oil change coupon stuffed on my Land Rover Discovery Series II.

Despite the creepy, overly pushy sales persona the owner gave me as I brought my car in, I let them get on with the oil change.

First, without my permission, they removed my license plate frame, and slapped on their own without even a thought to ask.

Second, after it was almost over, Brent (owner) came to me to tell me that my head gaskets were leaking profusely, a job PDX Rovers had just done several months before. He also told me that because of the bad head gasket job, my engine was toast, and needed to be replaced. He was very pushy about it, and quoted me $5000 in repairs to fix it all.

After explaining that I knew PDX had done it right, he began to trash talk the competition in a way that absolutely disgusted me. Trash talking the owner, lies about shotgun work, and deceptive diagnoses....

But the truth was, I've known PDX for quite some time, through quite a few other Land Rover owners too. And know them to be among the most trust worthy folks in town. I called him out on the BS, and asked to have my car closed up and removed as quickly as possible. I was done with them.

A few weeks later, I had my Discovery looked at again, and not only found out that there was a lot more to the story behind Columbia than just shady mechanics, but shady business practices as well. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!

Not only were my head gaskets in great shape, but my engine was perfectly fine. Not a leak, broken part, or nothing in sight. Columbia was ready to charge me FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS to do absolutely nothing to my car.

How desperate can you be?

Needless to say, I will never return to Columbia Rovers, and will steer every last Land Rover I see in Portland away from them as well. Portland is too small for a mechanic or anyone to get away with running a business like this...

Really nice guys and knowledgeable too. They have been really great at answering all of my questions as a new Land Rover owner! They are always available to help with getting used parts or new ones and fixing anything that you need. I have been to other shops and waited two weeks for a repair that never got done - not here. Last year I was having some hard start problems with my Classic and was searching for the right shop to not only take care of the problem, but to build an all important relationship with. I started out taking it to the "other" shop in town, and after 3 mis-diagnosis and shotgunning parts at it, I decided to take it to Brent at Columbia Rovers. What an experience! They stuck with it and figured it out. They found discounted parts and the labor was quite reasonable. Since then I have had them do some upgrades and other work to my truck with great results. I will not take my truck anywhere else, in fact I drive all the way from Bend to have it worked on. Thankfully they are opening a shop in Bend this year!

I have been a Classic Land Rover enthusiast since I was about 5 years old. At that time my uncle had purchased a 1972 Range Rover Suffix A, which I still has very vivid and fond memories of. I purchased my first Land Rover, a Series III, while living in Scotland some 13 years ago and this past fall I finally got my hands on the Land Rover Defender I?ve always wanted so I decided to give Columbia Rovers a call because of their convenient location. I am so glad I did. The level of professionalism and positive attitude that I have experienced at Columbia Rovers has yet to be surpassed. It is very comforting to me as an enthusiast to be a customer at a shop who really knows what they are talking about and who knows a whole lot more than I do. You will not get this kind of care and this level of technical knowledge if you go to a Land Rover dealership or a generic shop. Columbia Rovers have helped me with everything from general maintenance and repairs, electrical wiring clean-up, to full undercarriage rustproofing with Waxoyl. I have been recommending Columbia Rovers to everyone I know that drives a Land Rover. Thank you!

In June of 2008 we became proud owners of a 1995 Land Rover Discovery. We unfortunately knew very little about the vehicle. I suggested to my husband that since we knew so little about the Discovery, and what needed to be repaired and that unfortunately we knew no one in Salem, OR that could help us that we had to find a company other then the one that the tire company had dealt with. My husband found Columbia Rovers! We talked to Ken and Brent at Columbia Rovers. They were both very knowledgeable about our Discovery! This really put us at ease especially since we live in Keizer, OR; have two boys and busy schedules. Ken kept in contact with us letting us know what was going on with our Discovery. It was wonderful! I am going to call on Columbia Rovers for all of my Land Rover Discovery needs.

In fact? Recently our family was driving down I-5 just before the Terwilliger Curves when we blew a tire. Since we didn?t know of anyone in the area to call and we unfortunately don?t have AAA I decided to take a chance and call Columbia Rovers. It was a Tuesday evening after 7:00pm and Brent answered the telephone. I was so surprised. I was just going to ask him if he knew of a tow truck company to call, but he asked why I was calling, I told him where we were and about the tire. He said that he could come out and take a look at it because no truck driver in town had the tools that could fix it. I was so impressed. Within 30 min there he was on the ground with my husband changing the tire! It was the most satisfying experience. I cannot begin tell you how impressed our family was and still are with this company. They really care about their customers. So all I can say is that I will always continue to call on Columbia Rovers!

Cons: There located in Downtown PDX (but it's worth the trip!)

I was referred to Columbia Rovers and greeted with an open shop door and same-day service. Being a lifetime Land Rover owner, thats impossible to find. Brent and Scott took the time to pop the hood and REALLY listen to my issues with my 89 Range Rover Classic, instead of the typical "lets replace everything and hope it works again" mentallitly I previously experienced at PDX rovers. Brent has worked with me on my 2002 Freelander , 2003 Discovery G4 , 2006 L322 Range Rover and my new addition to the family 1989 Range Rover Classic. Not only have I saved A LOT of money compared to previous service shops, but they helped me perform upgrades on my LRs that other shops did not even know exsisted. Thanks Brent, Scott and crew!

Here is our story:
In June of 2008 we became proud owners of a 1995 Land Rover Discovery. We unfortunately knew very little about the vehicle. My husband noticed that the needed to have the Sway-bar on the Land Rover fixed. We called around and found a local tire company in Salem, Oregon (where we live) could give us the best time line and price in town. We were told that it would take a day to fix it, however it actually took four days as we were told we waiting for the parts from the only dealer in Portland that dealt with Land Rovers.
We were so disappointed with the way that the tire company was treated by this dealer in Portland that we were really were not looking forward to taking our vehicle up there to that dealer in Portland, Oregon. I suggested to my husband that since we knew so little about the Discovery, and what needed to be repaired and that unfortunately no one in Salem, OR could help us that we had to find a company other then the one that the tire company had dealt with. My husband agreed and began looking on Craig??s List to see if anyone else had any information about Land Rover??s and that is where we found Columbia Rovers! We are so happy that we found them. We talked to Ken and Brent at Columbia Rovers. They were both very knowledgeable about our Discovery! They let us know that they would work around our schedule, money, and issues with our vehicle. Not only that they offered to let us drive another Land Rover while they were fixing ours. That meant that we wouldn??t have to go out of our way to get another car to rent while they were fixing ours. This really put us at ease especially since we live in Keizer, OR; have two boys and busy schedules. We didn??t want to be with out a car. When we got to Portland we were able to find their shop. Everyone was very nice; they helped us by listening to our questions and concerns. Ken kept in contact with us letting us know what was going on with our Discovery and just as they had told us the day the Discovery was to be fixed it was ready and we didn??t have to wait for anything. It was wonderful! I am going to call on Columbia Rovers for all of my Land Rover Discovery needs.

In fact? Recently our family was driving down I-5 just before the Terwilliger Curves when we blew a tire. Since we didn??t know of anyone in the area to call and we unfortunately we don??t have AAA I decided to take a chance and call Columbia Rovers. I cannot begin tell you how impressed our family is with this company. They really care about their customers. So all I can say is that I will always continue to call on Columbia Rovers for all of my Land Rover Discovery needs!
