I joined this gym because it was close to where I lived. I got caught up in the excitement of exercising and joined without really thinking. it is a nice gym with very, very clean facilities. The equipment all looks like it's kept clean and in working order. I've been to some gyms before and this one is very nice. I go mostly for the cardio workouts so there never seems to be a wait for the machines I need. I've heard the weights can be a problem for those doing more what training.
But, I realized that I go to the gym to work out. As long as the equipment's looked after and I feel safe, I don't really care so much about how it looks. I joined another close by gym for about half the price. It doesn't look as nice, but hey, I'm not living there.

HURRY -- DRINK THE COOLAID.

I joined the Chicago Loop club at $130/month, based in part on the exceptional reviews and in part because it was the closest gym to where my job relocated. Yes, the place is clean, yes, it is not that crowded. But people, come on, the place is a TINY dump. LA Fitness, XSport, even Bally's in Downtown Chicago are ALL bigger and better. Equinox has very little equipment, just TWO flat benches and ONE incline bench. I have more than that in my basement gym. I'll bet if you people were paying $50/month you'd be a lot more critical. XSport has hand tiled showers, Equinox has drop-in shower kits like you get at Menards. LA Fitness has keyless lockers. Equinox you need a padlock. Bally's has double the square feet, LA Fitness has triple the square feet and XSport has four or five times the square feet, depending where you go. Are these gyms more crowded, maybe, depends on where and when you go. But that does not change the fact Equinox has old equipment, cheap showers, short hours (closed on Sunday - come on!!!!), and an absolute mob like attitude when you try to quit the club. I'll bet if you were all paying $45/month and could quit any time, you'd be a lot more honest. Even the classic Lake Short Athletic Club is month to month and is cheaper, bigger and has a much more professional clientele. Come to think of it, Equinox is the same price as East Bank Club, and that club has full sized pool, multiple basketball and racquet facilities and more. Equinox is a waste of money, but perfect for suckers that want to follow the crowd. Save your money and go to LA Fitness or XSport or Lake Shore.

I love this gym. I transferred my membership from their Woodland Hills, CA location (which was also nice), but this Equinox is definitely my favorite. Equinox memberships in general are a little pricey. However, if one of your priorities is staying in shape while really enjoying yourself in a clean, uncrowded environment, then it's absolutely worth it.

With all of the classes they have, I've never been bored, and the atmosphere is full of positive energy and enthusiasm. People there are happy to be there, and you can totally feel the love.

The steam room is a huge plus, the locker rooms are spotless, and pretty much everyone greets you with a smile. And yeah, I have experienced little sales pressure to pick up a personal training package, but it's nothing that a polite "No, Thank You" won't take care of.

With the economy in jeopardy, Equinox has decided to hire "anyone" from all industries, in order to capture new members. In this effort they are firing best staff daily for any reasons. Employees have "at-will" agreements which means they can fire staff for the color of their hair. There is a revovving door of staff everyday, especially in the Long Island NY area. The clubs there are striving to stay alive. The comapny hasn't a clue how to properly manage their locations in the suburbs. several new employees are from different industries & low standard, especially, when the member is paying for the "best." Think again folks & go elsewhere. equinox is a marketing tool, that hires inxperienced/no-name people to run their clubs. For years there are comments throughout US, about the nasty/inexperienced staff they have. It is not quality organization, & members are getting hurt in their clubs; of which, Corp. does not care about. Word has it that the Long Island clubs will be closing & the company will be chapter 11 soon, so be careful, anyone joining/seeking employment. I am an ex-mgr. of 4 yrs...

Pros: clean

Cons: CEO/Management, mis managed..

The club itself is nicer than most gyms I've been to. Love the classes and equipment. Staff is ok. I had injured my back about half way into my one year membership and stopped going. I never bothered to put a freeze to my account and paid for the monthly fee. When my one year term is up, I decided not to renew and hand delivered a cancellation of membership so that I won't get billed the month to month. Manager contacts me to acknowledge receipt of cancellation while trying to convince me to stay on. I turned them down. The next month I get a letter from collections department stating I owe the monthly due. I called to resolve this and they said that they will follow up with the manager. The following month, I get another letter from collections department stating that I now owe 2 months worth of dues. Again, I contact them and they said manager must have forgot to terminate my account and they will go ahead and fix this. Here we are 6 months later and they forwarded me to collection agency for the 2 months due. WTF??? I expected more from this place and now I will do everything that I can to make sure everyone knows how unscrupulous and greedy this gym is.

Pros: Classes

Cons: Manager is a j3rk.

Yes, the gym is very, very clean. And it's never too crowded, with the exception of some of the popular classes.. But it's extremely expensive, and they really try to pressure you to sign up for their even more expensive personal training sessions. After a year, I decided not to renew my membership. Well, it hasn't been easy. I had to change my credit card number to get them to stop charging me. And I've been back and forth with them over the phone and through email trying to resolve this for the past two months. Unless you plan on spending over $100 a month for the rest of your life, I'd look for another gym. Better yet, buy a good bike and some free weights and work out at home. It's less expensive and more convenient.

Cleanliness- 3.5 stars
Equipment selection- 4 stars
Crowdedness- 4 stars- never saw it too crowded to find equipment or weights for the exercise I wanted to do
Class variety and instructors- 3 stars
Staff- 4 stars, except for the Australian guy with the weird haircut. Waaaay too pushy with the personal training pitch. Get rid of him and it's 4 stars!

These guys need to learn about sales. Just call them up and ask them for monthly membership prices over the phone. I DARE YOU. Try it. They can't talk about prices because it is a sales disaster...These people rely on foot traffic NOT phone sales (obviously), to sell memberships. "its just a gym, guys. Not time share"

No two people pay the same price.

I got bounced around to three different people that didn't know pricing information FOR THE GYM THAT THEY WORK AT! Rediculous.

Just a taste of whats to come if you join this gym. (for the record, no one was rude to me. they just played stupid) I guess word of mouth doesn't matter to these guys)

By the way, guys. If you do a google search for 'equinox membership prices' there are plenty of dissatisfied people that will let you know. So, good job keeping it a secret.

Also, I want to give my money to people that deserve it, not to people who want to practice their sales "skills."

Just joined an equally nice gym in the same area. They laughed when I told them about EqUinOx. What a joke.

Cons: Save your money

I joined this club when I moved to Pasadena and lived in the Paseo apartments. Pros: cleaner than other clubs (although not exactly luxurious); some good classes (that unfortunately weren't at convenient times for me). Cons: staff is rude and pretentious; equipment is not great; some classes and instructors are bad; trainers seem mostly incompetent; they screw up billing and are slow to fix it; hours are inconvenient. Overall, I did not feel it was worth the $110 monthly (especially compared to the $30 I now pay at a club with better equipment, classes, hours, etc.). Staff at Equinox (even the front desk people) tend to have an attitude...especially don't need that for the price.

I moved into the area in 2003 and Equinox is still the best Pasadena has to offer. This place is always spotless as staff are constantly scrubbing floors and cleaning around the clock. Probably one of the few gyms you'd feel comfortable walking around in barefoot. Towel service and locker room amenties (lotion, shavers, mouthwash, cotton swabs, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner) are all welcome ammenities. I've belonged to nicer much larger clubs, but the big box discount chains in the area have absolutely nothing on this club.

I joined Equinox earlier this year. I wanted something close to work in Old Pas. But I don?t have a lot of time to wait in line for equipment etc. I cannot say enough about the facility and all it has to offer. There is never a wait for cardio equipment which those of you who have ever worked out at one of the major chains know is huge! Even at peak times I can always find a treadmill or elliptical. Yes the monthly fee is pricey, but are you really going to go all the time when it only costs you $20 per month? As my hubbie says ?as long as you use it, it is worth the cost?.  The monthly membership also offers towel service with a locker room fashioned after the Ritz Carlton?s and a host of quality classes to choose from at no extra cost (spinning, yoga, Pilates mat, boot camps etc). Inside the club there is a Pilates studio called Power Pilates (add?l cost). My husband and I take the ?duet? courses with our instructor Kristianna once a week. I highly recommend her as we have found her tough, knowledgeable and encouraging. I have also used the personal training services at Equinox and I cannot say enough about David. I mean what female hasn't wondered what it would be like to hire a personal trainer at one time or another? Well I can honestly say that if you try David out you will not be sorry! He is all about the client asking and helping you stick to your goals. He is very competent at dealing with injuries too. I have a chronic back problem but he is able to work around it and still leave me feeling like I?m not an invalid. Tough but very personable, the chats we have balance out the difficulty of the work out. The sales process was friendly with no high pressure tactics, very relaxed. I would recommend either Benson or George they are great! You can?t go wrong with either!

PROS: Very clean, towel service, no wait for equipment

I love my Equinox in Pasadena! Im sorry for the experience one of the reviewers had at this Equinox, and I have to say that as a member who is able to access all the Equinox gyms in L.A., his truths dont seem accurate at all.

The trainers at this one happen to be the friendliest out of all the clubs Ive been to (i.e. West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and the one on Wilshire Blvd). They even have this really nice guy who seems to know everybody I think hes the training director who also happens to be in amazing shape. I've seen him work out and teach some of the classes, and it's very inspiring to watch him at work. The staff at the welcome desk are just friendly as can be, and I know this because I visit at various times of the day. As far as the facility goes, I wouldnt say it is low-quality, I just know that it was the first one built in California, and that it was meant to be of that size, as was explained to me by one of the sales people.

I much prefer this gyms lay-out over all the other Equinox clubs. Lastly, Im sure that the billing issue he noted is valid for him. Having had his experience, he deserves to be let out. Im having quite the opposite experience, Im happy to say, so theres no need to worry about paying my monthly dues theyre worth it! I can't think of a better gym in the area that is as upscale, friendly, and professional as this one.

True that it's a good-looking place (esp nice locker rooms). Here are the other truths: stuck-up trainers, poor customer service from all staff, low-quality facilities (such as no pool and very small) compared to other Equinox clubs. The worst complaint I have is that they are making it extremely difficult now that my year-long membership contract has expired. They keep debiting money from my bank account even though my contract is over and I have told them I no longer wish to be a member! I know this is illegal and really reinforces the idea I had all along that they are totally money-hungry.

After being a member of mass market gyms for years (you know, the ones overpacked with teenagers, sweat encrusted machines, and broken cardio equipment), I decided to join Equinox. It has a very high-end and clean feel. You almost feel like you have to bring out your "nice" sweat clothes because your old sneakers and college t-shirts aren't bourgeois enough for this executive crowd. People don't grunt and toil here, they tone. After being shocked by the hotel-like atmosphere, I realized it's not really all that pretentious.

The showers and locker rooms are fantastic, and a strangely enough, a nice place to hang out. Great steam room, private showers with plenty of hot water, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Big sinks with shaving cream and razors if you forgot yours at home.

Overall, one can get very comfortable pampering himself or herself in a place like this. It's never too crowded, even at peak times. This is a smaller location so it lacks a pool, which I would normally expect at a fitness club with half the dues. One other critique is that they choose very modern equipment that look nice and expensive, but sometimes aren't the most effective choices.

For around $100 a month, it's a great relaxing workout place, but know that it lacks the motivating hard-work, down-and-dirty atmosphere that you'll find elsewhere.

Never ever a wait for any machines. Enough Bosu balls for a Bosu ball convention and classes are dynamite. The trainers are really into their jobs - they are not just training in hopes of being discovered like some other gyms I've been to. My trainer switches up my workout every single time I go in and consistently takes measurements to make sure we're on the right track. The cleanest gym I have ever been in. No meat market feel - everyone is too into their own workout to stare at anyone else. I was worried that everyone would have perfect bodies being that it's a high end gym, but all sizes, shapes and colors are represented here. I feel comfy in dirty sweats or the latest Dri-Fit gear.

Equinox always smells and looks clean. The locker rooms have lovely jazz music, while the floor has more active rock and roll to help your workout. After an Equifit evaluation to help you figure out your current state of affairs and where you want to go, they will match you with a personal trainer. I've generally had good luck with the trainers, though in the past I wish they had checked up on me when I didn't schedule an appointment. The staff is very nice. Free parking has now been extended up to 2 hours.

PROS: Clean, great classes and facilities, nice locker room
CONS: expensive

I read the earlier review on billing issues, but decided to check the gym out anyway because I was in the area and was seriously looking for the best facility in Pasadena. I appreciated the non-intimidating tour, and the genuineness of the staff that worked there. It seemed like everyone made it a point to make me feel welcome. Because I was serious about making my gym membership work this time, I ended up sitting down with their training supervisor, who gave me overall tips that would help me get started, while also recommending that I take myself seriously enough to train. 6 weeks later, I can tell you that the investment is well worth it. I am training 3 days a week and am improving on so many aspects other than just how my body looks. So far, everything is working out wonderfully!

Pros: Expert staff, Friendliness, Super clean

Cons: Price, if $-consciou

.

Excellent Instructors and Personal Trainers. Expensive, but worth the money for a clean, well-maintained gym. The group fitness instructors are the best in their field.

This gym is incredible, but it's extremely expensive (almost 3 times the amount of other gyms). You get what you pay for, though. It is extremely clean and very well-equipped. They also have friendly employees (from my experience). Everything thereis state-of-the-art. If that's what you need to work out, then it's worth the price. But I just can't bring myself to pay $100/mo for a gym.

Located in the Paseo Colorado this club is great! Kickboxing, dance a lot of other classes. Great location in Pasadena. The only drawback was the cost.

It is very clean -- almost spa-like. They have amenitites, nice steam room, give you towels, etc. Good amount of equiment, never over crowded. Can always get on cardio equipment. Separate spin and yoga rooms. Very good group classes. In Paseo Colorado, and do validate for 90 minutes of parking.

Equinox is a higher end club. The place is kept very clean, it has great facilities and plenty of good classes (e.g. yoga, spinning, etc.). Positives are that the gym is never very crowded so you don't have to wait for machines, and spotless locker
