I took my dog here when he had an eye infection. They had to put him under to check it out and I felt comfortable letting them do so. They were very good to my dog.

We have been taking our animals to the Animal Hospital since 1985. They have always had the BEST care they or my family could ask for. The two doctors we most often see are Dr. Shlange and Dr. Elliott. We feel that these doctors are competent in their field and extremely compassionate to both our animals and our needs. They treat our dogs and cat like their own and explain in detail what, if any, health problems our babies may be having. Likewise, the front office staff are very professional and caring. They are friendly and sensitive to all situations. Our dogs think going to the Animal Hospital is a treat and love to go to see everyone (doctors and staff), because they get so much attention while they are there.I would and have recommended the Animal Hospital to many people, both friends and strangers. They do seem a little higher priced than some of the other vets around, but we are firm believers in "you get what you pay for."

I am a new patient of Dr. Schlange and could not be happier with his expertise and wonderful bedside manner as well. I am an R.N. so as you can probably imagine, clinical expertise is very important to me. Not only did I get fantastic clinical expertise but gentle and kind interaction with my dog. Previously, my dog had to be muzzled with another Veterinarian. But with Dr. Schlange my dog was totally secure and there was absolutely no need for muzzling. Mind you that this was her first blood draw as well. You can tell that his heart is totally into his work. I feel so blessed to have my dog back. He immediately diagnosed her with hypothyroidism and she has gone from overweight and lethargic to a healthy weight and her usual spirited, energetic self! I also found the office staff to be supportive, professional and caring. I would highly recommend Animal Hospital to everyone!

I meant this as a general review following a visit, but after reading the preceding letter from Anonymous, I've decided to elaborate. I've been a client at Animal Hospital since 1985. After moving to Oakley, I visited and rejected 2 other hospitals before deciding that Animal Hospital was the one I considered the best for my pets. Dr. Caranci was the first Vet I saw there. He was great but has since retired. Before Dr. Schlange became my primary Doctor, my guys (and there have been many!) have been treated by every Doctor there. (Although I've never met the one named Dr. Spinker mentioned in the post.) I can't complain about any one of them. They are all professional and caring people; (this includes the front staff) who chose their professions well.
My pets have been seen for everything from upper respiratory infections and other minor issues all the way up to pancreatitis for one past dog, cancer and heart disease for two of my cats and my current dog with too many things to mention. There have been times I've been able to say "Do all you can for them" and sadly, there have been times I've not been able to say that. I was NEVER pressured into doing more than I could, and I was always given an estimate before going ahead. As with the cat Anonymous wrote about, my collie Sebastian spent many days in ICU with his pancreatitis. He was given fluids and watched. The bill (and this was a long time ago) was over $2000.00. Was I upset that "nothing was done?" In my opinion EVERYTHING that needed to be done WAS done. He was "watched" by people who know what to look for and did everything they could do. I was lucky; he survived. Would he have survived if I'd "watched" him at home? Never. (Years later when he had liver disease, I was divorced and was unable to treat him and he was euthanized. My decision was respected and I was never led to believe that it wasn't the right decision.)

Since Anonymous wasn't with his in-laws when they brought kitty in, he doesn't know if they put limitations on the Doctor or told him to "do all that he could." I doubt that they would have kept treating if the owners said not to, and I would guess that they were in daily contact with the hospital. As far as calling other hospitals for "quotes" after the fact, I personally, wouldn't be comfortable with one who gave a price without even seeing the cat. THAT would be unprofessional. UNTIL you see the patient, you have no idea what you're up against.

To sum this up, Animal Hospital has never failed to exceed my expectations. I've been with them for 23 years and have never had reason to go elsewhere. I would (and DO) recommend them to anyone looking for quality, compassionate care for the 4 legged members of their family. Price wise, I think that like anything else, you get what you pay for, and in my experience over the years, the care my pets have received and the comfort of MY knowing that they were in the best of hands was always worth it.

The most expensive Vet in the entire area! The were good until we got the bill and it was 3 to 4 times that of any other vet in the area. Then when I asked them why it was so much, (just like the other person that wrote a comment before) they had no explanation why and all they could say was that is what they charge. 626 dollars in just blood work ups in the first 24 hours! And that was just a routine 12 panel blood work, nothing crazy. They did it 4 times and charged for each one... When I asked to speak to somebody higher then the receptionist, she had a Doctor call me back. He was without a doubt the biggest a**hole Doctor I have ever encountered. I thought his name was Dr. Spinker but I??m not for sure. The jerk started out the conversation by saying, ??all I want to hear from you is that you are on your way down to the hospital now to pay the bill and he didn??t have anything else to say to me, and he would just sue us if we didn??t pay?. He also said that he was extremely pissed off that I was questioning the bill after they did all the work in good faith. I was in shock when this idiot said that to me and then I explained to the moron that I was just the Son-In-Law and I was calling because I was going to potentially let my In-Laws borrow the money to pay the enormous 2,200 dollar bill and I think that since it was my money they were getting I felt I had the right to question a very expensive and outrageous bill.. Yes, 2,200 dollars and the cat still died... That was for 2 nights only and the bill still came to 2,200 dollars, no surgery, no stitches, nothing more then routine blood work ups, IV??s etc... HOWEVER the jerks (a real b*tch named Leigh) told me how generous they were being when they said that they would give us the cremation for free... Geeezzz, how nice of you guys to take us for everything you can and throw in a 200 dollar cremation for free. Which they said cost 300 dollars but when I called around other vets only charged 200...

The doctor then got an earful from me after I let him bury himself and show his true colors. He was a real piece of garbage and after talking to him I will NEVER give any money to help pay this bill and the funniest part is that we were absolutely going to pay a good portion of the bill ALL we were asking is that they discount some stuff because it seemed extremely high in comparison to other vets, PLUS the cat still died... The other kicker to this is that Dr. Schlange kept the cat alive from the start and then the 2nd doctor (Dr. Stahler) told everyone that he had never seen numbers as low as he did when the cat came in and insinuated that no way could the cat have survived because "he had never seen a cat survive with that low of numbers on a blood work up". So now, even after the cat died and another doctor is saying that it was worthless to even keep going on, they still stuck us with the entire bill with NO discount at all... Insensitive jerks is what they ended up being. I would never recommend them to anyone period...
