This is an older theatere, remodeled and it does not look like it from the outside, but it is a huge theater. I watched "Orlando" here on the big screen and could not believe it. Also check out the video store next door.

Pros: Nearby 24-hour restaraunt and 7-11, great film selection, definitively eclectic vibe

Cons: Pretty bad parking (no lot), sometimes there is a long outdoor wait (exaggerated by only wearing lingerie)

This theater is probably my number one choice for a Friday night, even though we miss Lulu's. But the Nuart alone is enough to attract a crowd. Besides the expansive movie collection and bargain prices (with Landmark discount card, 5

Pros: excellent films, delicious popcorn, inexpensive

Cons: too loud, long lines

The Nuart Theatre is a fairly well-known theatre on Santa Monica Boulevard. What Los Angeles lacks in bookstores and coffeeshops it certainly makes up for in movie theaters and video stores. Movies generally play here in 1- or 2-week runs, and they run the gamut from "Indie" Hollywood films to obscure foreign films to documentaries. Though it's certainly great to have a moviehouse playing Battle of Algiers or The Klaus Nomi Story at any given time, the Nuart's real claim to fame is its weekly midnight showings. Friday night is (almost) always Rocky Horror, and Saturday night is a different cult or nostalgia movie (these have included Flight of the Navigator, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tron, Neverending Story, etc).

Go to the Nuart to see indie films or a classic. They do the Rocky Horror thing often, and have great selections of art flicks, foreign flicks - also watch for special director interviews with screenings.

Films that are missed and seen once again are experienced here at this normal size theater experience. I drive by and see the lines there all the time and now have experienced what it's all about. Check your local LA Times for what's gonna be there, because sometimes it's a once in a moment thing (for return films).

This landmark theatre is great place to catch the latest foreign film, a classic restoration, or a midnight cult classic. Appropriately situated next to Cinefile, a great indie video store, this theatre offers fresh movie choices that show for just a week. Definitely by the 6-pack theatre booklet for $30, which makes each movie cost about $6.

PROS:
CONS: Movies only show for a week.

Looking for someplace to watch the Rocky Horror picture show? The show runs every Sat. night at the Nuart theater and makes for a fun evening. Warning, you do have to find your own parking.

PROS: Fun experience
CONS: Can be crowded

Nice, full sized theater and a refreshing change from the tiny, shopping mall multi-plexes that crank out formulaic Hollywood blockbusters. Not that there's anything wrong with those, but it's nice to get away from the mainstream every once in a while.

I have gone to the Saturday Night ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW here atleast 5 times already. If you have never seen the movie with the live show at the same time you have no idea what you are missing. It lasts 3 hours with all the acts that go on the same time that the movie is going doing the same scenes from the movie. There is audience total participation. People come dressed up as the characters in the movie. If you love to people watch then you gotta go here. There is so much that I have not mention cause I want you to be surprised when you get there. Kust make sure you let them put the "V" on your forehead.

PROS: So totally awesome, Put me in a time warp
CONS: You cannot throw tortillas or rice anymore

Too bad that movies only play here for a week before moving on to other locations in the chain, but always the place to go for revival, independent, and foreign films that you would be hard pressed to find playing elsewhere. The weekend midnight Rocky Horror Picture Show draws many devotees and has a line of regulars outside that literally wraps around the block. The theatre is not big on amenities or style, but certainly more than makes up for it with its taste in films.

In addition to what others have said, I'd like to add that the Nu-Art is THX certified. Not many arthouse/single-theater cinemas in Los Angeles are. So if you do see a current or recent release here, be assured you'll hear the soundtrack

Pros: eclectic films, comfy seats, big screen/THX sound

The Nuart is already a treasure for the movies they play that the giants will not. But you can read enough about that in other reviews. The Nuart achieves greatness in their midnight movies. Every Saturday at midnight is Rocky Horror,

Only place to see many of the finest cinematic achievements not plugged by the greedy giants in movie distribution. As a side-effect, the folks who work there are elitist, indifferent jackas*es to a degree I've not seen many places

It's lovely to have a theater that shows such small time films that even the independent theaters don't cary them. It's also wonderful to find a theater that plays documentaries. The only drawback is that these first run films run only for

Thank the heavens for the Nuart. For decades, this eclectic movie theater has supported offbeat, experimental and truly independent filmmaking. From Fellini and Polanski to George Romero to John Waters, nothing is above--or below--Nuart
