I worked for Takashimaya and must say that it was heartbreaking when it closed it's doors. One of the greatest things that we were given in return of our hard work was the ability to make sure our clients were always satisfied and on

Takashimaya closed its doors. What a heartbreak. The store was exquisite, sophisticated and quiet. No bling, no woman in dirty sneakers (or clean sneakers). Just high end clothing, sleepware, bedding, fragrances, makeup, giftware and

Although I've always ranked Bergdorf's & Barneys highest in my pantheon of shopping meccas, I may have to make a special emeritus place for Takashimaya. This is quite simply the most exquisite store in New York. The design sensibility is

Pros: Extraordinary designs
Cons: Smaller but exquisite selection
Exquisite merchandising - each floor different and equally as beautiful. Who needs to buy when you can window shop here!
And don't miss the tea room in the basement. Expensive, but glorious food in a soothing atomosphere.

My Boyfriend ordered roses and paid nearly $300 on Feb. 13th for V-day. On the 14th at 4:45pm they called and said that my BF had ordered flowers and their delivery guy was very close and begged me to wait for him. I sat in my office

Think of this place as an asian version of a mall. Only not as cheap as the Pearl Mart in Chinatown. This mini branch of Japan's most famous department store chain is a wonderful spot for classic and contemporary clothing, housewares, designer makeup, and elegant and exotic high-end gifts. So of course its very expensive but so worth looking around.

My favorite store in New York City!!!!
Takashimaya is such a gorgeous store with unique items and a dedicated staff. The store is small, so it is very easy to navigate, plus the Teabox Cafe on the bottom floor has the best lunch on 5th Avenue for a day of shopping; light yet filling and very delicious. Things are pretty expensive, but the quality and originality of their items are unmatched by any other department store in the city.
My wife as an Interior Designer, her dream to design entire home with all Takashimaya items.
I spend a day browsing, shopping and lunching or taking tea after three each time I visit New York City.
PROS: Beautiful layout, Unique, Classical, Understated elegance
CONS:

Takashimaya knows how to spoil a tired shopper. Not only do they have beautiful items to purchase but they also have a day spa on site so if your feet are killing you from an afternoon of shopping, this is the place to be. This is the most beautiful department store I've ever been in - each item is exquisite. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and to guide you to whatever it is that you're looking for. I'd never expect to find such an oasis on 5th Ave in NYC but lo & behold, Takashimaya is it. If you're looking for a gift, this is a great choice because it's very unlikely that your recipient will already own whatever it is you've chosen for them.

Takashimaya is a beautiful retreat in the middle of Mid-town. The shop has a beautiful floral department with to-die-for orchids and gardenias. The spa is well worth the money, for the personal experience without the crowds or being rushed out for the next client. Very boutique feel, but wonderful staff. There is a lovely tea cafe that was a nice treat.

The merchandise was beautiful and beautifully displayed, however it was our misfortune to encounter the rudest sales person I have ever met. I left the store completely disillusioned because of it. I can find darling Japanese and high

How refreshing to spot an understated facade on Fifth Avenue. The entrance area for plants and ceramic flowerpots is fun to browse, and you can pick up nice gifts (many in the $50-$80 range) in the Tea Box downstairs. Try some emerald tea
