The Gold Bar is a real neighborhood meeting place -- not a cookie-cutter chain coffee shop! They serve delicious coffee and espresso drinks, as well as teas, and yummy things to eat with them. They also have art displays and occasional live music.

Gold Bar Espresso has been a Tempe landmark for many years. They have good coffee but the atmosphere is what this coffee shop is really about. They have very good tea and Italian sodas.
This is a great place to come with a good book.

The reviewer of the BLAH review is either blind or in the pocket of Starbucks. Gold Bar is a great place to hang and see the art they promote. Coffee is grade AA compared to any Starbucks and the prices are fare. I live in Europe half the year and I have been to every coffee house in the area. Gold Bar is very good and perhaps the best in Tempe. Go see for yourself and hang out as long as you want. For what this Valley is, not a stronghold of beauty, Gold Bar is just fine where it is.
