First Time, I was suggested to visit by some friends. It was a great little hole in the wall place. Food was good, not a traditional restaurant Mexican food. It felt like food you would find if you drove around the country.

Took my wife here for dinner on a Friday night. Not a long wait, very friendly staff, and the food was out of this world. Don't pass up the guacamole - or the drinks!
5The folks here don't mess around - I was born and raised in Phoenix, and this is by far my favorite restaurant in town. They bring some delicate and unexpected flavor combos to the table, as well as typical Mexican/Southwestern favorites. One item that stands out in my mind is the dessert - churros filled with a warm caramel sauce, and topped with ice cream. So amazing. The drinks are great, as well, and the service can't be beat. Don't forget to check out the cool bathrooms, which are decorated with Mexican artwork and lots of beautiful crosses.

Barrio Cafe is the best Mexico City cuisine in town. This is not your normal Mexican food. The options include plenty of seafood and vegetarian. The menu of tequila and tequila drinks are very good.
5Best Mexican restaurant we have ever found. Funky location and ambiance, but incredible food and wait staff. Not inexpensive, but well worth the cost. Recommend the incredible guacamole prepared at your table and the Chilies en Nogada entree. They do not take reservations so plan to arrive early or expect to wait.

This is Mexican unlike anything you have tried before. The 12 hour slow roasted pork was incredibly tender and flavorful. Other options feature duck, beef tenderloin and lobster. Each first time visitor must get an order of the housemade guacamole, made tableside. Wine recommendations are listed beside each dish and were very reasonably priced.
Desserts are excellent as well. The goats milk caramel filled churros with a side of vanilla bean ice cream is a solid choice.

Pros: quacamole, churros!, wine list
Simply Amazing - just very crowded! Try the desserts! and the Margaritas!

Pros: food, margaritas, desserts
Cons: noisy, crowded
the food and service are great. the atmosphere is chaotic. we couldn't hear the music, or each other at our table without shouting. the menu features many exotic items . the appetizers are extremely small, very tasty, but pricey. tables are squashed together and if you suffer from claustrophobia, better avoid this place.

Amazing. I had heard many good things about this eatery but was delighted to find it was all true. Had the Pollo Poblano and loved every bite. Our server Scott was wonderful, attentive and knew every dish on the menu. The atmosphere was wonderful romantic and perfect for a date. Only caveat was the music in the super small bar/waiting area was a bit too loud for easy conversation. Other than that, I will return over and over.

The variation of traditional Central Mexican dishes and upscale Cuisine equal a unique culinary experience. Our waitress was knowledgable, efficient and friendly, the bus boys practically ran, the duo performing Latin music added to the ambiance. Appetizers are huge, the seafood enchiladas so rich, the tamarind and chipolte on the duck unbelievable, and have the flan and pressed coffee to finish. The best "real" Mexican fare I have had in Phoenix.

If you are like me, someone who is sick and tired of eating at chain restaurants, then try something new and go to Barrio Cafe. Everyone at our table loved the food. I had chicken stuffed with pablano and it was the best chicken I have every had. As soon as I put it into my mouth my taste buds exploded in excitement. Everything that everyone ordered was out of this world.
The only complaint I had was the service was not the best in the world. Our waiter told us that they where short staffed and it was very evident. Overall it was a pleasant dining experience.
