Wow! I just read COAZ comments below and must post a rebuttal! My wife and I sat with a Handyman's Haven designer about 4 years ago. I provided sketches of our kitchen and explained my plans including moving a stove and vent system,

We got some great cabinets, but they cost us dearly!!!! The design was not what we had agreed to. In addition, the bad design and lack of detail in the initial sketches provided to the contractor (entire space was off by more than 6 inches so vent had to be redone - entire area to roof - and drawers and doors could not open because of [lack of spacers, etc. that true designers would know how to provide] planning), and provision of final and semi-accurate plans provided only at the time the cabinets arrived, which was too late to avoid the problems listed, and altogether unprofessional work provided by the designer cost us an additional $5,000+ in installation costs. The designer's asnwer to our request asking her to come to the site to attempt to resolve the problem was, "It is the responsiblity of the installer to make the plans work. I only provide the plans." Well, the plans were not workable. Our installer made a great attemtpt to make the plans work, but they were truly lousy. And with lousy plans, you, the homeowner, pay the price. This designer is never available when you call, will not take time to talk to the installer, and does not listen to the customer.
What more could you want?
