Wow what can I say this is just like being back in Ireland! They have a beautiful outdoor patio and the prices are great!

I LOVE HARP beer and even toured the brewery when I was in the real Ireland - but just can??t drink the Guinness ?? way to dark for me!

Just all around great times and the place might really make you believe you are in Ireland - until you walk (or stumble) out the door to go home!

I love this place! It's the best spot for lunch with a mid-day beer. I had the best BLT I have ever had in San francisco at the Irish Bank. The sandwich usually comes with American Cheese, but I asked for blue cheese (which I have never had on a BLT before) and it was just AMAZING! The fries are crispy and the Lagunitas IPA is obviously good! Made for the perfect mid-week break from work. I'll be back (in a Swartzenager voice).

Come here during world cup games and meet your fellow hooligans! I love the atmosphere, the people there are cool, and prices are reasonable. Before long, everyone WILL know your name... cheers.

We visit SF quite often and like to try new places. In January 2009, we dined here. It was a late afternoon weekday, not too many people in the restaurant. The service was horrible. Our waitress had a surly attitude, she forgot to bring one of our drinks, our food took forever - about 30 minutes - and wasn't worth waiting for. Our son is a waiter in an SF landmark restaurant, so we always try to be nice and courteous to wait staff, but there was no breaking through to the waitress. She ignored us for most of the meal and after waiting for 20 minutes after we finished our meal, we had to track down Ms. Personality to get our check. Won't ever go back.

Authentic Irish feel, decor and menu. Fish & Chips were delicious as was the stew. Brew was cold and the regulars that were there were friendly and recommended items to choose from on the menu.

Down a alley where they offer outside seating as well. We went during the week just after lunch hour so it was "dead" but from the looks of the outside area I would say on a weekend night this place looks like it could be fun!

Pros: Great food

Although this place is called the "Irish" bank, they really have everything to offer to eat. I've been here a couple of times for lunch and have always wanted to come back on a Saturday night, but still haven't made it yet.

Like I said, their menu is extensive. While the specialize in potatoes and fish and chips, they do have mac and cheese, meatloaf and a HUGE selection of beers!

The main thing I love about this place is the outside seating. Because it's located down an alley, you don't even feel like you're in the city anymore. And if you are a smoker, it's ok if you're sitting outside.

This great little pub, off the beaten trail, is well worth the trek. First time visitors may be apprehensive about the alley entrance, but the inviting interior makes all at ease. Bartenders are well trained and make an excellent cosmopolitan. (Surprising for a pub.) I always stop in when i'm walking around the area and you should too.

I love the Irish Bank. Been going here for years. Drinks are CHEAP and the crowds not rowdy. When the bar gets packed, you can hang out outside in the alley and enjoy good conversations even with random folks. The staff are friendly.

The new owners of the Irish Bank have made great improvements to the place. Perfect Pints of Guiness. Feels like a traditional irish pub from Donegal, and I have been to a few. Was a fun place to watch the World Cup.

Great outdoor space, now with awnings and heaters.

If you work downtown it is a great for lunch and after work for a drink or two, or on the weekends a good break from the madding crowds of Union Square.

Food has improved since the change of owership and the staff quite friendly. With a real friendly red headed Irish Bartender.

Great place to meet friends, staff is sometimes rude tho'. Nice on a Saturday afternoon, can get a bit too crowded in the evening.

I've been twice now, and the first time was great, albeit a bit loud in the back room. The last time, however, we tried to get a group seated outside, but there were only three tables and far too few chairs. When we moved inside, the music was blaring so loud with generic rock that it was impossible to hear anyone who wasn't adjacent to you and screaming. That's fine for dancing, but hard for a pub setting that should be about chatting with friends.

Warm and comfy this place is the perfect pop-in for a couple - get out of the rain place. Good food doesn't hurt either.

Yum. Chips and beer. Newbies to SF, my boyfriend and I have now visited the Irish Bank twice and have enjoyed it each time. A great pub, don't go there planning on having a quiet conversation, but enjoy the Guinness or many others on tap, full bar and great food. I can only attest to the chips with curry sauce, but the basket was large, the chips were hot and they were a great after-work appetizer with a Guinness before heading home. The rest of the menu looks great . . . busy and crowded but the bartenders are friendly and try to get your order to you quickly.

I like Guinness too.

So why do I need to be literally squashed between ten million people to drink it? (That assumes I can get one - poor staff seem to have had it by the time they hit the throngs.)

Just not worth the irritation. Not even close.

For the amount of money I spent I had an
excellent meal, but if you go after 5 p.m., by
all means go into the dining room because the
bar fills up fast and is very, very loud.
Nice place, but the music being played over
the pa system is about as Irish as the
4th of July (I think the "after work" crowd
likes it) and when the place gets crowded,
the small staff have their hands full.

Fish & Chips always outstanding, so have been a number of other dishes. Guiness Stout best on North American continent. Thursday nights frequently have a great surprise and it is free.
Ever seen a bar with an authentic antique confessional. See one.
We are senior world travelers who live in Hawaii. Whenever we are in SFO we make a few stops at the Irish Bank. It is always enjoyable. Many of our senior friends have joined us. While we are greatly outnumbered (by age), all have enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It akes years away.
How to test the quality of Strout: Initial the foam-if it takes and holds, the quality is tops. Here it is tops.

Great bar - I've been every Friday except the last two, for about 4 months. Hope the owners read these reviews! You need faster service - just because the bar is packed, don't assume everything is fine. I've eaten there on a Thursday night, and it has taken FOREVER to get served even when the place is dead. And forget about charging $2 to get in for special events - it's such a token covercharge, why bother - it just annoys the regulars. And get rid of the panhandlers in the alley! But it's such a great pub I keep coming back. Oh yeah - mop the restaurant area floor - it's been sticky for weeks.

...looking for then I suggest the Irish Bank. I've tried to eat here at least two times and it was horrible. It wasn't even that busy but we couldn't get a server to even bring us a drink. They don't really seem to care, either. I'm all for laid back but this place was too cavalier. When the food finally arrived it sure wasn't worth the wait.

The food was great- fish and chips done properly. I also had a side of curry and it too was yummy. The pub was smaller than I thought but I was not disappointed for long. The is a dining table inside a catholic-looking confessional. This place serves Stella. The Bartender was absolutely fantastic.
