This is one of our favorite, especially when we go shopping at Oakridge shopping mall. Food is nice, and served fast. The only disappointment is their tofu dishes.

I've been going here for at least 10 years. The service is excellent, but they do get very busy for dinner. You can't go wrong with the Hot & Sour soup or Sizzling Rice soup. I love their Honey Walnut Shrimp or Chicken! General's Chicken

Me and my family have been going to Mandarine Gourmet for over 20 years! Mandarine Gourmet is by far my favorite Chinese food in town. They consistently deliver the best Chinese food. I personally love their honey walnut prawns, seasame chicken, mongolian beef and chinese chicken salad! They have a great lunch special which is very affordable and comes with a main dish rice, soup and salad for under $10.00. They other great thing is that Mandarine Gourmet has a large room you can reserve for birthdays and parties. We have had a lot of fun family dinners and gatherings there! Check it out! I am sure you will be pleased!

Pros: Consistently great food!

Cons: Can get a bit pricey

We had a department lunch here today (Most likely because the exiting Manager knows the owner). Well, I was quite underwhelmed. I like my Chinese food FRESH and lively. This fare is the opposite of that. Samplings of Lemon Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Chicken Chow Mein, etc did not change my opinion. Maybe San Francisco has spoiled me. Here's my recommendation: Eric's 1500 Church St (27th Street)

Pros: Fast service for large group

Cons: Blase food, Not my choice with friend(s)

This is the first place when you cant eat everything from the menu and all is really good and great flavor, a little to dark for me but work great some times.

They need to clean or change the carpet look to old and dirty.

My wife and I have always liked this resturant, but since our son was borned we have been regulated to eat take out. Since his birth 3 years ago, we have seen decrease in quality, quantity, and kindness. We have tried out many items off the menu thinking it might be off day, but each time it was same bad experience with the taste. I know, it is take out, it might be bad because it might be cold, but I assure you that another Chinese resturant down the highway 5 miles further is much better quality and quantity but not great customer care. Therefore, I think this resturant is not good for take out.

I love all three of Mandarin Gourment's restaurants. Favorites include their hot and sour soup as well as their Peking Duck. I find their Peking Duck to be just as good as those hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurants. Their ambiance is very nice and they have friendly staff/waiters.

We enjoy the food very much, always seems fresh and have never had a bad experience here. It's always ready for pickup in 15 mins :) and it takes about that long to get there.

Fast and friendly staff when we eat there too.

The dishes can be a little expensive for Chinese food, but it's worth it.

PROS: Good food
CONS: Tad bit expensive.

Yuk! This place doesn't hold a candle to the original Mandarin Gourmet in Palo Alto. The restaurants have the same menu and the same price but the food is completely different. This is the greasiest Chinese food I have ever had.

This has been our favorite Chinese restaurant for about 13 years. The decor is nice...white table cloths and pretty flower arrangements. The hosts/hostesses are always very friendly.

Excellent food! Typical Chinese menu but that is OK because it all tastes good. They make the best honey walnut prawns I've ever had anywhere.

I imagine if I were to go to China, the food would taste just like the Gourmet. I love everything I have tried there, but you have got to try the Mu Shu Pork. The place can get busy around dinnertime because it is popular, so go early if you can.

PROS: Great taste
CONS: a bit pricey

The Mandarin Gourmet is a nice mix of authentic Chinese food and American Chinese food. There is something on the menu for everyone. They have a nice group room you can reserve for larger groups. The service is prompt and they have fixed any problems with the order.

This weekend marked my first visit to Mandarin Gourmet, and we'll be back--even though we don't live in the San Jose area.

The food was served very quickly, in spite of the large crowd at tables and waiting to be seated. Each dish was wonderful, even the ones that normally leave me cold. Cashew chicken generally seems a bit bland, but not at Mandarin Gourmet! There it is delicious, with rich flavors in the sauce. The sesame chicken was just spicy enough, and the prawns with honey walnuts were fantastic.

Being "Americanized" or "inauthentic" doesn't mean something isn't good. It just means it's different from its origins. Mandarin Gourmet proves this point.

People have been telling me about this place for years, but I never got around to going. The outside of the resturant doesn't looking like much, but get inside and it's clean and roomy. The food comes so quickly and it is amazingly addictive. The Chicken Walnut is a must try, infact I doubt you can go wrong with anything you choose. Even a simple salad is delicious. I think the flavors our perfect. You gotta try it. If you have to wait for a table just notice all the people getting take out. All these people can't be wrong.

Of 4 dishes we ordered, 2 were appalling, 2 mediocre. The Chicken with Vegetables had 6 snow peas, the equivalent of 2 cans of slimy water chestnuts, and a lack of chicken. The Szechaun Beef should be called Szechuan Water Chestnuts. This dish had at least one cup of soggy water chestnuts swimming in a somewhat tasty gravy, and a modicum of beef strips. To our relief, the Mu Shu Shrimp had no water chestnuts, but it was primarily shredded, over-cooked cabbage, and we had to hunt for the shrimp. Thank goodness we had also ordered the Honeyed Walnut Prawns. Even so, this generic dish was not up to the standard we expected from its inflated price; we've eaten better versions at fast-food style Chinese restaurants. Our recommendation: Go elsewhere---unless you just love soggy water chestnuts!

I love this place; unfortunately, like other reviews... it is quite pricy for the amount. Love their spicy prawns and peking chicken; the fast service is awesome. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

This place is a little nicer than most Chinese restaurants and the quality is usually reasonable. The food tastes good and it is inexpensive. I like the eggrolls, sesame beef, fried rice, and honey walnut prawns. Service is mediocre, but most Asian places are like that.

There's a good reason a crowd almost always gathers by the door waiting for tables (and take-out). Mandarin Gourmet may not be totally "authentic" Chinese cuisine, but people enjoy it. The ingredients are fresh, variety of dishes plenty, atmosphere is appealing, and service is prompt. Some dishes are on the greasy side, but that's typical with most Chinese food. My favorite dish is Kung Pao Prawns - quite tasty and best I've found locally. My only odd complaint -- it is often difficult to locate a bottle of soy sauce for your table.

If you want authentic Chinese food, this isn't the restaurant for you (and you can kind of tell by the clientele). But overall, the food is quite good! The prawns with cream sauce is very good. The prices are a little high and the portions are smaller than average Chinese restaurants but you're paying for service, which is way, way better than other Chinese restaurants. (The Mandarin Gourmet in Cupertino is a bit more pretentious than this one.)
