Horsman Automotive

I have used these guys 4-5 times on two cars, one of which is a BMW, and found them honest and knowlegable. The work was well done and on 2 occaisions they did extra, minor, work at no charge. Prices matched other shops and El Cajon Ford. I would refer people to them no problem.

Very accommodating. Towed the car there at night, they diagnosed it the next morning, the part was covered under warranty elsewhere, I towed it to the other garage, they charged me just a few bucks. I will go there to begin with next time.

These guys are the greatest. All I have ever asked for is a competent and fair mechanic with decent prices. This guys are over the top super! My family and friends and I are so relieved not to have to take our cars umpteen places for opinions and "bids" on the repairs. We just go to Horsman and know we will be treated well and get a good repair. Thank you Billy and Pete for years of good service!!!

I have been taking my cars to Horsman for 17 years. They have always given me an honest appraisal and price for any
repair. They even went out of their way to take the vehicle
to a transmission specialist to get a second opinion...at no charge to me.
I recommend Billy and this repair shop to any of my neighbors and friends looking for an honest mechanic at a fair price.

Judge for yourself but I feel I was price gouged. I had a new oil pan installed and an engine light check and it cost $700. It cost $92 just to check the engine light, not fix the problem. The first place I looked online a new oil pan for a 2002 Beetle could be purchased for $110 and shipped free. They are very polite and helpful at Horsman but I can't recommend them at those prices. You might as well go to a dealer where you know you will pay a lot but they have all the parts and are experts on your car. I hope I'm able to help others make a better decision than I did with this review.

This shop is very trustworthy and thorough. They have always quickly gotten to my car. Their prices are normal, not great, but trusting your repairman is worth a lot.

Charged me $600 to repair brake fluid container. Unfortunately, they only charged me, but did not fix it.Another family member brought hid car for a tune-up. They messed up the hood unlatching, and the hood flew open while he was driving on the street.Forget this place!!!

My boyfriend and I took our truck to Horsman Automotive when the transmission was acting up, they took it on a test drive, and referred me to another shop (EAST COUNTY TRANSMISSIONS) because they wanted to make sure we got the best possible service as soon as we could! So, we took the truck into East County Transmission and told us that they had reconmended that we come here and they test drove the truck, and didn't try to sell me a whole new transmission, they only fixed the parts that were necessary to fix and had it done that day! I would definitely reconmend Horsman Automotive & East County Transmissions for all your auto needs!

After taking our car to a big chain auto repair shop numerous times for repairs without the real problem being fixed, Horsman Auto was able to find the problem. We took the car down there after it broke down at a redlight and they were unable to get the car to act up again. Instead of "guess and checking" and making un-needed repairs as the other place did they told us they were unable to locate the problem. Funny as it may be a few minutes after driving out of the parking lot the car broke down AGAIN! After it was off for a while it started back up and we were able to get it back to Horsman. They tried running it again and had no luck seeing what was wrong with it so they kept it overnight for us and worked with it until they were able to locate what was wrong with it.

Horsman Automotive cares about it's customers and only does what needs to be done. They could have easily started making repairs in hopes of fixing the problem that they couldn't find right away, but instead they waited until they knew what was wrong.

PROS: They don't make un-needed repairs.
CONS:

We have taken our cars to Horsman Automotive for a few years now, and they have always done good work, and havent tried to oversell repairs that werent needed. The staff is knowledgeable and the waiting room is comfortable. We only had one time when the part we needed was not immediately available, and then it was done the next day.
