MCC is a great school. My daughter wants to go to school on the weekend. She loves it. The classrooms are bright and clean. Large outdoor space for children to play, there is a big structure, sand box, and basketball hoop. There is a small garden where children learn about plants, esp in their summer program. Young children don't have to be potty trained, which is a big plus for busy parents. No fundraising or required parent volunteer hours either. The school community does get together, such as Christmas holiday party and summer picnic. MCC is also a kindergarten age student. There were students who didn't get so lucky in the SF public school assignment and they stay here for kindergarten here and went to first grade public school. . I can't say enough good things about the school. I am so glad we came.

Montessori methods of childhood education are now universally recognized. They are not always wholly applied in the classroom. The thing is that Montessori had a complete method, and if you mix it up with other stuff, its success gets diluted. This school is the most traditional in San Francisco. It has prepared my son and daughter extremely well for their academic careers. Kids don't learn by rote at MCC; they learn slowly, organically, thoroughly and learn basic life skills such as buttoning, zippering, cleaning up messes. Montessori viewed these activities as learning opportunities as well as a way to refine their fine motor skills. If you want a serious, strong preparation based on work/play (Montessori saw no difference in childhood education), this is the place. If you want a cozy, huggy place with kids talking over each other and doing whatever they like, then this may not be the place. It's worth checking out.

Pros: excellent reading, writing, math, thinking, art, playground

Cons: not the cheapest, some staff are a bit formal
