With a client in Chula Vista, I was a little disappointed with the area as there were many Mexican restaurants but fewer options for other type of cuisines. Hogetsu was a savor. Everything is excellent here and it's nice to have a flavor of Japan in South San Diego!
4Since I moved to the bay area, I've developed a hunger for manju. The tiny cakes are always creatively designed and taste fresh and delicate. Cakes are priced at $1 each - bring cash as they do not accept credit cards.
4Very reasonable (like $1.00 a piece) but it does taste like a $1.00 "wagashi" (Japanese sweets). Koshi-An (Smooth red bean paste without the skin) itself tasted okay, but Manju bread was dry and kind of bitter. Mochi was little bit too sticky and watery.
Cash Only so be prepared. They also sell rice crackers, pocky and other Japanese candies/snacks.

I love this bakery! It's such a diamond in the rough with it being located nearby Old Chula Vista. The owners have been here for a long, long, while and make all the mochi/manjuu themselves. Of course, there's also other Japanese snacks/candies/drinks, etc. Their prices are a little cheaper than the stores in the Convoy area so that's another added bonus. I heard they also do party trays or something. I can never resist buying at least $10 worth of goodies whenever I come. They're just so nice!
