I stopped taking my pets to TVH a few years ago because everytime I boarded my dogs there, something would happen to them. The last time, my dog put a minor scrape on his nose from rubbing it in the cage door. They put a medicine on my dogs nose and of course she licked the medicine off and became sick to her stomach. I got a call from TVH telling me that they would need to do blood tests, etc. all to the tune of $400+. I did not authorize and of course my dog recovered fine. This same type of thing happened a couple other times too. TVH really tries to push extra services and they do put the guilt trip on. I switched to Tierramesa Vet Clinic and have been completely satisified.

Dr. Luke saved my cat's life. CatNabbit is my son's first pet, and he was heartbroken when she was so sick - it turned out she had eaten something she shouldn't have and had to have surgery to remove a piece of a plastic Buzz Lightyear toy. Dr. Luke's direct nature helped me separate from my emotional distress and make a good decision for my pet and my family. Her staff helped me apply for the Care Credit that let us afford the surgery. Now CatNabbit is recovering and my son does a better job picking up his toys.

CatNabbit is a member of our family, and I am so grateful to Dr. Luke for saving her life!

I had a horrible experience at Tierrasanta Veterinary hospital. I was pressured to get my dog spayed earlier than I preferred and quoted ridiculous prices for all services. I felt pressured by Dr. Luke and her staff on multiple occasions to purchase services and/or products. I've taken my dog to another vet and she's happy and healthy and it's not breaking the bank! I thought convenience (proximity to my home) was worth going to Tierrasanta vet - I was wrong!

My blood is boiling right now. I took my dog here because he was experiencing some type of allergic reaction and developed a "hotspot" by his tail. I was a little put off by Dr. Luke's personality, but shrugged it off. I was SHOCKED when her vet tech came in after Dr. Luke checked him over and gave me a list of services, medications, and tests for my dog that totaled OVER $1,400!!! Granted, if I dog had cancer or was hurt or had some sort of disease, I would perhaps consider paying this much money, but this was a spot on his skin that was clearly from allergies. I should have known this was a racket when on the new patient forms they asked for my social security number, drivers license number, BANK ACCOUNT numbers, and credit cards! Huh?

When I asked the tech to explain the charges to me, she could barely explain what the medications were and what they were for (I think she actually said, "I don't know..." when I asked what one of them was for and what the difference was between medications) Really, you want me to pay for a medication my dog "needs" that you don't know about?

The tech kept leaving the room, talking to the vet, and coming back, trying to push all these procedures on me. She finally asked me, "Well, how MUCH money are you wanting to spend?" What kind of question is that? I see my dog has a skin issue, let's test it and see what it is before you recommend thousands of dollars in treatment!

The tech kept coming back and trying to push me into spending the money, and then started with the guilt trip like my dog was suffering so much and why would I let him suffer? I told her that I wanted to go home and research these medications and procedures like any INFORMED CONSUMER would and should do, and she barely let me walk out the door.

The vet FINALLY asked to speak with me (probably because her tech wasn't getting anywhere), and I told her to just test the skin, see what it was, get antibiotics, and we would be on our way. Final bill? $260, which is still way too much in my opinion but I was already stuck with an office visit charge. My opinion, RUN FAR AWAY. How can you charge me over $1,000 in unnecessary procedures. What a racket! And I am willing to bet that this vet has friends or something regularly post on here because you will see a very consistent pattern with all the negative reviews: pushy, rude, condescending, expensive, and recommends unnecessary procedures. Don't go here.

I just adopted a cat from Animal Control and my poor baby had a really bad upper respiratory infection. Pneumonia to be exact and Dr. Luke wanted to hospitalize but I couldn't do that so she worked with me and came up with a solution for me to do most of the work to help my new addition to my family. I'm glad to report that my cat is doing much better and I truly thank Dr. Luke and her staff for helping me and my cat. I was going to take my cat back to Animal Control.

I have used various veterinarians around san diego but this one is best. They helped me care for my whole pet and not just bits and pieces. I brought my kitten in for vaccines and they found she had ear mites. The showed them to me under a microscope. Yuck, how ugly. If they had done just the vaccines I asked for, my kitten would be suffering with her ears itching like crazy and who knows what she might have done to herself. Thanks Dr. Luke.

I must be missing something because when I took my dog here the doctor and staff were extremely helpful. They know what they are doing and my dog loves coming here.

Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital is the best. Dr. Luke is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. She wants what is best for her patients and recommends it. Her staff is as equally knowledgeable and compassionate. I have to say she isn't the least expensive Vet out there but she is worth it. She always gives an estimate of charges and tries to stay within those limits and will call when the work they are doing is going to exceed the estimate. They even pass out pagers to the pets owners so they can be sure to get ahold of the owners in case of an emergency. Who does that? That's amazing. She also does "at home euthanasia" which allows your pets suffering to end in an environment that is comfortable and familiar. That was a big deal for us as some of our previous pets got old and sick. Thank you Dr. Luke.

When I was looking for a vet and I went to many. No other Vet but Dr. Luke did a full exam on my pets. Dr. Luke and staff educated me on what I could do better to help keep my pets healthy and happy. #1 and foremost that they stressed is taking care of my pets teeth. They have many products that help me to keep my pets mouth clean and healthy. Dr. Luke always talks in terms that I can understand and even draws pictures to help me understand. I think that she is a great vet and I love the staff too. Very caring and fun. I would recommend Dr. Luke and her staff to anyone that is serious about the Vet care for their pet.

Dr. Luke and staff are awesome. They have always taken care of my pets and I'm thankful for all that they do. They educate me on what's best for my pets and keep me updated on what vaccines my pets need. I really like the alternative method to vaccinating. I really care for my pets if I don't have to vaccinate then I won't. I would recommend Dr. Luke and her staff to anyone in need of a good through vet.

We have been taking our cats here for about 5 years. May be expensive (I have not shopped around lately), but you can count friendly treatment (for you) and caring treatment (for your pet). Dr Luke does a great job of explaining options in cases where the options are complicated, and her vet techs are great.

They cared for my cat for many years until she recently passed away. Dr.Luke is a great dr and yes the prices are on the high side but you are paying for high quality & professional help. The staff is great, they always explain everything to you and try to have you leave with a complete understanding of what happened with your pet.

The staff TVH is amazing. They always have a smile for you when you walk in the door and show a true caring for the animals. They put up with a lot from the "difficult" patients and don't seem to mind it. The only negative I have is the outrageous cost of veterinary care. It may not be much more expensive here than anywhere else, but every time we go in, there's always something we didn't anticipate doing that we end up being talked into. I know their priority is for the animal's care, but it sometimes comes across as profit motivated. Maybe that's a complaint about vet care in general more than at this particular business. That being said, we do really like the doctors and assistants. They have boarding available (though nothing really comfortable) if needed and do a lot of procedures "in-house" which reduces costs. They have also been great about finding good referrals for special problems or needs.
