We've been to four luau's on the islands and this one is lame in comparison to the others. Food is poor at best.

We have been to the Old Laina Luau twice now. We went 10 years ago and then last August. The show and the food are spectacular. Their drinks weren't that good though. I believe they have sacrificed quality by using a machine to make their drinks. The chi chi and volcano drink were horrible. Also, I wish they would add fire dancing to their venue.

I've been to this luau for both breakfast and dinner, and both experiences were awesome. Both include cultural activities, and very cool souvenirs to buy. I learned how to hula dance! We also got to try "poi" which is this sticky stuff that is supposed to be very good for you. Doesn't have that much flavor but isn't that bad! Food was also amazing, and so was the show!

I was very impressed by this place. Before the dinner and show, there were many areas to walk around in and see the Hawaiian culture. I learned how to hula dance! They also cook a pig inside of the ground, which smells amazing! The food is awesome, very authentic. The show is even better! Especially if you enjoy different dance culture, these Tahitian dancers really know how to shake it!

We've been to a few luaus, now, and Old Lahaina Luau has been my favorite. The surrounding are beautiful and the entertainment was top notch. The food was, well, Luau food...but I can't imagine it being any better. (It is a luau, for goodness sake.)

I've been to several luaus on Maui, and this is clearly the best. They are organized (I had a credit due, and when I gave my name to the greeter in the parking lot across the street, they knew I had a credit and told me exactly where to go to have it issued. The food is outstanding: a huge variety from pork to raw ahi. Everything was fresh, tasty, and there were huge portions available. I was given a mai tai when I entered, and it was sort of weak. I took it to the bartender who happily "fixed" it. When I went back later, he remembered me and gave me another excellent drink. The show was incredible. My knowledge of hawaiian culture is limited, so I don't really know how authenic it was, but it certainly appeared more "real" than other luau's I've been to. A great show and worth the price of admission.

Both of my guide books said this was the best luau on Maui and I believe it. They greet you with a flower lei when you arrive. You have the opportunity to walk around and admire neat authentic Hawaiian crafts all while enjoying the exotic mixed drinks at the open bar. (I highly recommend the Lava Flow.) The food is served buffet style and I'll admit that it wasn't really for me. I don't doubt that it was good, but I'm very picky and don't enjoy seafood, so I can't legitimately comment on it. I will say it's not good if you are mostly vegetarian as I am. After the food, the entertainment begins which is a series of hula dancer acts. They were wonderful! Our waiter is wonderful as well. Overall, a great night!

My family and Friends attended last Month (July 2005). Last time I was there was 1996 on our honeymoon. They had the fire eater/dancer/jugglers. Also they have the beginning of the show w/ the queen riding the canoe and coming from the beach and that was fantastic. They took both of them out. Seems like they are doing all the short cuts nowadays. It's so commercialized and overrated. That's why by their entrance lobby the best of Maui plaques on display are only 1997, 98 and 99. For $89.00 an adult and $62.00 for child it's not worth it. Food also is not that great anymore. I heard Maui Marriot is a little bit better and a little bit cheaper.

While more expensive than most Luaus in the area, it is definitely worth the price. From the magnificent sunset view to the ceremonial raising of the pig from the buried oven to the incredible feast and talent, you dont want to miss it! It is popular however, so you'll want reservations. If you have a wife who likes to volunteer you for crazy things like mine does, then you may get called up to dance with the dancers...don't worry though, payback is inevitable when they tell you to bring them up too! :-)

What you pay for is the experience. A fantastic show, pretty good luau food and a great view of the ocean in the background. The dancers were excellent, shaking their hulas like there was no tomorrow. The service at the table and the bar was extremely welcoming. By far the best luau in maui and one that blends well authenticity with commercialism. Reservations are recommended, but I arrived w/o them. You'll have to wait a bit, but it's worth it. Everyone gets a good view of the show, but seating on the matted floor right up to the stage is the best view!

We went to this luau while vacationing in Maui because so many people raved that it was the best one. Having been to a luau many years ago on Oahu, I did have something to compare it to. This luau was authentic, right down to the seating. We were seated on mats and cushions on the ground, and were lucky to reserve 2 weeks in advance so were able to get seating right in front. The performances were great, the service at our tables were great, the food was excellent, and the cocktails weren't watered down like at most luaus. The only thing we missed were the fire dancers, which are actually Samoan, and not a Hawaiian thing, which is why it is not included in this luau.
