Both of my children went to the Dedham Auto School. Things seemed to go well with my first child, and mostly went well with my second child until the end of the process. There was great confusion about taking the actual road test. The school gave us the instruction that it was better to rent our own car for the test through a car rental company. We made the appointment with the registry, only to determine that it was not possible to rent a car from a rental company because they will not allow a 16 year old to drive a rental. When I called the auto school to try to figure out what to do, the owner of the auto school got very defensive and verbally attacked me on the phone! If everything goes fine, it works well, but if there is a problem, this owner is verbally abusive, impatient, and rude!

My daughter learned to drive with them and they are professional and efficient. I'd heard horror stories about other auto schools with difficulty of scheduling and safety issues...we have been pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. He really does know how to help these kids become good drivers, he was easy to work with, very reasonable and yes, by the book - which is what we wanted.
To the other reviewer, maybe you shouldn't have been tailgating, it makes new drivers nervous when other drivers are pushy - that's why they have the sign on top of the car. Give 'em a break, you were a new driver once! It's too bad he flip you off, but it's hardly road rage. It's too bad you've made a point of trashing this companies name, they do a great job!

I can not comment on the school itself, but I can comment on the instructor that flipped me off for tailgating, as the owner put it, however we were in traffic and the center of town and driving 20 mph tops. No need to give someone the middle finger, that's road rage and God knows I would not want this angry guy to be teaching my kids how to drive.

Dedham Auto School is the best place to find someone to almost guarentee that you get your licence. If you do what they say, when they say it, you will very likely pass the test. Though strict and by-the-book, if you simply follow instructions, they will get you where you need to be. Go if you're ready to do what youe told.
PROS: Good, professional curriculum likely to produce safe drivers.
CONS: Occasionally smug and impatient.
