I normally go to a certain thai restaurant and tdecide to try this one. It's almost as good as my favorite one. They have good hours, longer hours and are open late. The hot and sour soup and spring rolls are the best here, and my personal favorite. The prices are low and they have big portions. You can get larger orders of the soups in quarts and larger to eat at home. They also take carry out orders and get them ready very quickly when you call ahead.
PROS: good spring rolls, hot and sourt soup
CONS: not too kid friendly, very dark

This restaurant had received numerous positive reviews and we were expecting something very exciting. Righ toff the bat two appetizers, one an apple salad that had been written up sounded great. Then a range of classic Thai (have to check out the Pad Thai, Mussamun Curry etc.) and some others.
Food was ok, pad thai a bit better than avergae but no better than what we had at siam spicy. Service fine but not over the top friendly. "free" soup subpar, rice was barely warm and too dry, food generally warm not hot. Maybe we hit a bad day, but if this is the Best of Detroit for Thai (think they won that somewhere) than it is a sad day for Detroit and Thai food lovers.
Solid, interesting menu, range from ok to very good food. But nothing special.

Orchid Cafe Thai has the most consistent and "Professionally" prepared Thai food around. I have been to almost all the Restaurants (Thai or any other for that matter) in the area and have not found any that compare for overall quality. They have menu options that you just can't get or find anywhere else- like the Royal Fish which isn't always listed.

Orchid Cafe is just what you're looking for. A friendly staff, excellent food, clean facilities, and so much more. This is definitly the place to go for good Thai. I went there for my birthday and the head chef whipped up a special dish for me. The "small family business charm" is what gets me!
