The much talked about Abramovic stuff is pure junk, disgusting, revolting, trashy gimmickry! She has absolutely no talent -- just a fat head. I was insulted that the museum should try to pass this exhibit off as art worth some price of admission. This woman is not talented. Besides, she is ugly and has nothing that would make one want to see her -- in any way -- especially nude! Moma must be quite desperate financially to put this trash in the museum and bamboozle us into thinking it deserves our attention.

This museum is so uniformly ranked among the best in the world that I decided to give it -- and modernism -- another try. Big mistake.

There is some truly great stuff among the oldest paintings in the museum's collection, including some incredible stuff by Cezanne and Van Gogh. Apparently, the museum also has an incredible collection of photography, though I wasn't all that impressed by what I saw on my recent visit.

As for the rest, I know that many people will swear they love it, that it takes incredible talent to leave a canvas blank or just scribble randomly all over it. But those people are lying. Some of them know they are lying to you by claiming to see great artistry at work. The others are lying to themselves, convincing themselves that they can see what we ordinary Philistines cannot in order to feel good about themselves. (They are similar to people who claim that Ulysses is a satisfying book to read.)

In reality, it's crap. No matter how many pompous people claim otherwise or how many guide books recommend it, it's crap. 90 percent of the world will walk through the whole museum in less than two hours and wonder why they hell they decided to spend $20 per ticket to look at such idiocy.

Pros: Some extraordinary Impressionist and post impressionist

Cons: Unending pretentious nonsense

As a lover of the arts I consider myself very picky about the exhibits that certain modern museums choose to display. Having said this I consider the MOMA one of the best museums in the world.

The art, the food...what a wonderful way to spend an afternoon when in NYC. Admission is pricey compared to the Met (where admission is a donation of your choice) but MOMA is a great place to go for modern art fans. Both the sit down restaurant and cafeteria are great (and delicious) places to take a break.

When I came to visit my cousin in NYC, he brought me here to MOMA. You really need to set aside a solid 3-4 hours to do this place justice. There is so much culture to soak in while visiting this museum.

Houses one of the most interesting collections of modern art you'll ever witness. It is very spacious and you can take pictures if you'd like (not in the temporary exhibits, however). There's a small collection of Jasper Johns' works which I particularly enjoyed as well. If you like art at all, you MUST MUST MUST visit this museum.

The museum itself is a work of art. MoMA has a vast collection of masterpieces from Dali to Picasso and other artists that you probably haven't heard of. The museum is roomy and has good lighting for taking pics w/o the flash. Currently MoMA has a the Target Free Friday promotion where admission is free on Friday afternoons. There are also fims shown there on selected dates.

PROS: Target Free Fridays, Good Atmosphere
CONS: None

The museum of modern art truly has a wonderful collection of, dare I say it, modern art; however, it is so easy to disagree with the museum's definition of art that I cannot give a high rating to this museum. Add this to the fact that the museum is more crowded and charges higher than usual admission and it just does not make the grade as the best museum or even a must see museum in New York City

I love the Met for art---but its rare that I love a visit to MOMA. yes the critics all love it--but its hard to get excited about some of the pieces that are here. Since I'm not a fan of modern art (however you define it) then it may be unfair. Nevertheless, I often feel as if it is all set up for those who like to feel elitist. NO one can really ever know what it means---and the exhibits are not very helpful either.

MOMA is definitely a must-see whether you live in New York or you are visiting. The first few floors have rotating content from modern artists, and the top few floors have more "recognizable" artists such as Picasso, Cezanne, Matisse, Pollock, etc. The very top floor usually has a special exhibit. Be sure to allocate at least a few hours for your visit because the museum is quite large.

When I was there, MOMA was free after 4pm on Friday.

PROS: It is an art-lover's dream
CONS: Expensive when it is not free

I love it when it was in lic because it was closer to me. but midtown is nice too. I like to stroll and take my time in this museum it's smaller then the met , but just as good.I do not recommend this museum for young children . this is good for teenagers to open up their mind to seeing things out of the box.

Everyone knows the Museum of Modern Art. The newly remodeled space(s) opened in November 2004. With the new museum came a higher, admission price. Consider membership if you are plan to visit often. Or take advantage of the Target Free Friday Nights. The food is provided by Danny Meier's Union Square Hospitality Group - which I thought was great. You really get your money worth here. Great place to take the whole family.

it's great that moma is finally back in manhattan. the new building is really breathtaking with wide spaces, and small details in certain places that just make the whole concept of the new space work. i don't really enjoy modern art, but i have to admit that the design of the building is really genius. though it really does suck that it now cost twenty dollars to get in. but it really is worth it to pay just to see the building.

Honestly, I do not like this museum...I do not find the art interesting, and the place is too big, cold (as in unwelcoming) and crowded for me, but if you like modern art then this is the place to go. I have no real complaints as to how they are run, they are as good as the best museums, professional and very New York, but modern art takes an acquired taste I suppose.

Van Gogh, Picasso, Manet and Monet. They are all here. The Museum Of Modern Art is in its brand spanking new quarters and it looks and feels great. Starry Night is here and so many other great paintings. It's expensive to get in now, $20, and there is quite frequently a long line to get in. Friday nights after 5 are usually free, call or check there website for info on this before going.

PROS: Some of the greatest works of art ever
CONS: Expensive, Lines

Whether you are impressed by Impressionists...intrigued by the thought processes of Dahli and his counterparts...or fascinated with modern art...there is something for everyone!

It's no doubt that the collection at the MOMA cannot be beat. That said, I feel the current price ($20 for adults) is a bit too much for anyone on a budget--and the crowds on the free Friday nights a bit too much otherwise.

The collection is certainly worth seeing, and the films being shown at their cinema are always works of art themselves. (The films during the free hours on Friday nights are also free, and are sometimes a quieter alternative.)

PROS: collection
CONS: price

MOMA is a great museum to see! It just re-opened after a long hiatus due to remodeling. They offer film and art exhibitions and are constantly bringing in new pieces of art (Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, etc). I had to go there once for a playwriting project and loved it!

Regardless of where in the country you live, you've probably heard of the Moma, but odds are you haven't actually been. There seems to be a stigma in visitors about Modern art, as they think they'e going to see painted rakes and open garbage cans masquerading as art. Well, there is stuff along those lines, but there's also an extensive collection of some of the best modern art in the world. You haven't seen a Pollock painting until you get up close enough to see the texture of the paint splatters. The other usual concern is price. Tickets are very expensive. But get this: Friday's from 3-8 admission is free! Free! How could you pass that up?

This is the first time I have been here since they renovated the museum. It is definitely larger and more modern than its predecessor. They have a great collection of art, including famous paintings that even the most art-illiterate would recognize. It is often crowded so it is recommended that you go during the weekdays. One downside is that the layout is confusing, with some rooms dead-ending and others going on, making it difficult to navigate through without a map.

WOW, this is a spectalar addition to the New York art scene. I'm glad they spent the time and money to redo this space. The expanded galleries are fantastic and the light just pours in.

Make sure to visit the Cafe on 2. The food is very good and the lines move quite quickly. The rotating exhibits on 6 are worth a look--I really like the Groundswell landscape architecture exhibit.

The MoMA is magnificent and the re-design was inspired, but boy are the crowds annoying.

I've been to the museum four times now and have felt claustrophic on each visit. Too bad, because the collection is terrific. I especially like the design and architecture collections.

The sculpture garden is a nice break from the crush, but why is the foutain never on? Hmmmm.
