For my daughter's 13th birthday, I purchased a cake from Piece of Cake and was truly disappointed. The cake wasn't very moist and had chunks of batter in it that had not been mixed up. The sad part was my daughter requested a cake from Albertsons and I thought I knew better. Also, no customer at all.

The chantilly cupcake should have been divine, but the sour taste in my mouth from the unfriendly staff killed the experience. There was too much icing on all 4 different items we ordered, which I'd never think I'd find myself complaining about. Even the 4 year olds left some behind on their plates.\n\nThe place looks cheery from the outside, but the service and surroundings quickly dampen any hopes for a sunny experience. I regret giving them my business and won't be back.\n\n

Pros: Delicious Chantilly Cupcake

Cons: Unpleasant Service, Dingy Environment

.

Very disappointing experience. Store looks shabby. Service was not helpful at all. Extremely limited selection of bake goods in case. Items we wanted were frozen (cookies and pies stored frozen and not available fresh). Vegan cupcakes were dry and had weird stringy bits in them. The cupcakes were mainly frosting and the frosting was too sweet. Sweet Pea has far better cupcakes, better service and better selection. It was a waste of our time and money.

My wife has a gluten allergy. I received a coupon for Piece of Cake and when we found out that they had Gluten Free Carrot Cake, she said we had to order that. So we got 1 9 inch double layer Carrot Cake. She had been craving Carrot Cake and it surpassed her expectations. It does not even taste gluten free! For anybody who can not eat gluten we highly recommend PIECE OF CAKE.

I used to get the irish oatmeal cake from a restaurant in town, and when I was pregnant I would literally dream about this cake. Then I finally had to ask the restaurant where they got the cake, and it is well worth the trip to Sellwood for her yummy cakes.

Pros: Yummy cake

Cons: none that I know of

This is fabulous place to get cakes. You can get Piece of Cake's creations at many restaurants or grocery stores around town (and I do) but why not go to the source (much more affordable)?\r\n\r\nI highly recommend the Irish oatmeal and the vegan carrot . We always buy cakes from Marilyn for every birthday or other occasion and people in attendance always comment on how good the cakes are. People would never guess that they are vegan or nut-free or wheat-free or any of the other ways in which the various delicious cakes respect other's dietary needs. We've tried other places in town but always come back for events or holidays. \r\n\r\nI noticed several negative reviews here and decided that I really had to post. I was just looking for the phone number and ran into this. I have to say that I think that these reviews are all from the same person. Sure the misspellings aren't consistent but the vibe is the same. I'll guess someone didn't get their ego stroked. I'll further guess that the negative reviews were all left by someone asked to leave the premises because they were drunk (or really obnoxious (or both)) and bothering the reasonable customers. Apparently being aggressive and dishonest makes some people feel better. \r\n\r\nI'll bet you'll feel better if you just eat this cake.

Pros: excellent cakes

I wanted to order my wedding cake at Piece of Cake, but I didn't want to do a traditional wedding cake. When I tried to tell the woman in charge what I wanted to do, she was very abrasive and proceeded to tell me what SHE thought I should do in a very condescending and antagonizing manner. Although I felt bullied, I decided to go home and attempt to place my order over the phone, thinking that might be easier. Wrong. This same woman was just as much of a bully on the phone. Needless to say, I did not place my order with this bakery. The cake might be great, but until this woman learns how to treat her customers that are paying HER to do what THEY want, I would recommend that everyone take their business elsewhere. ANYWHERE.

I got the Irish Oat cake for my Fianc?'s birthday and it was really good! I was impressed with the appearance of the cake as well. The icing was a bit sweet, but the cake was very moist. When I picked up the cake, the lady who helped me was really nice. She made sure I was happy with the cake and chatted with me for a few minutes. The store itself is a bit messy, however I will definitely tell my friends about Piece of Cake.

I took a bride there as they wanted a vegan cake. The place is not as cute as the picture above portrays, the lady you meet is plain old mean, she spends all of her time telling you what you can't have and how her cakes are better than any other shops, she is disorganized, is unable to find the pictures that she keeps talking about. The cake we had was not too bad but also not that good and definitely more expensive than any other shop we had looked at including Papa Hyden, which I thought was going to be pricey! When it came to signing the contract I told her we were going to see another shop the next day, she became rude, told me I was making a big mistake that they would not be as good and they would probably mess up the cake on delivery. I went with the other store!

This place is not as warm and kitschy as it looks in that picture. With wedding cake albums and other things strewn covering every available surface, it is hard to find a place to put your cake. The cakes look and sound great but when you finally get to eat it, after the baker has stopped what she was doing tbehind the counter to serve you, the cake seems like it's been sitting in the fridge for two days. It is somewhat of a haven for vegans who otherwise don't have many dessert options, but I'd recommend getting a slice to go and warming it up in your microwave at home.

Pros: Interesting cake creations

Cons: Don't live up to their name or detailed description on the menu

This is the worst bakery in the Northwest, and it seems to be run by a madwoman. The place is filth ridden.\r\nThere is dirt everywhere. It smells of urine! The cakes are way overpriced. And they are dry and tasteless.\r\nThe woman who claims to be the owner looks and dresses like a bag lady. I think her name was Marilyn, She was dirty and looked as though she had not showered in days. She talked like she thought she was better than me, and wouldnt let me get a word in. I saw her more than once rub her snotty nose with her hand as she was handling food she was packaging. When I asked about catering details she was trying to make things up as we talked. She didnt know anything about quality catering. The countertops had food and crumbs all over them, and the workers just kept putting more food down on them, without cleaning anything up first. I watched for about ten minutes before I almost got sick! I will never recommend this dump to any of my friends. I think that she needs to be shut down, and should be reported to the health inspectors for the state. Nobody seemed to have hair nets, and I saw a long black and grey hair on a cake in the dirty glass case. The service was super slow on top of everything else. Dont waste your time! If I had known what a dump it was I would have never ordered the cake over the phone in the first place. Piece of Cake, more like Piece of _ _ _ _ !!!!

The cake, is okay. It is most important to me tho, the consumer, to support a company/ owner in which I feel is deservant of the business. The owner of this shop has been nothing but a flake, and a mess when it comes to doing business. I hate to say it, but this was my second, and LAST incounter with this shop. This women may be on some sort of substance, and in no way deserves my or any good beings business. Please do our world favor, and do not support this place, I have too many concerns to mention at this point.

My brother used this company for a wedding reception at my home. The first thing Marilyn asked when she arrived 1/2 hour late was ""Do you have any clothe napkins"". She then proceeded to paw through my cupboards looking for serving dishes and spoons. I was under the impression that caterers brough thier own stuff with them. The food was bland and uninteresting, 4 differnt kinds of raviolli served room tempature...He paid alot of money for this. The cake was just OK. Maybe if I was REALLY hungry this would have been OK but there are some good quality caterers out there this is not one of them.

She arrived with a bad attitude and little else. She rifled through my cupboards looking for serving plates and spoons. The serving trays she did bring along were dirty. The food was mediocre at best, lots of bread and she charged ALOT! Do not use this company for catering her cake was the only bright spot.

I ordered a 6 inch round for a small wedding party and was told by the ""food designer"" Marilyn that it would be $100 as the design was elaborate (it was? ok...). I had been emailing her for over a week with the same picture from their own gallery asking what the cost was. No reply to that other than ""call Marilyn"" (she wasn't ever in) so I went in and got this price. I agreed to just have a ribbon on the bottom and a very simple design for $75. You are required to pay in advance, which I did.\r\nThe day before my wedding I got a voice mail from the shop with a confused woman saying they didn't know if the cake was made or not, wether I had picked it up or not, wether I still wanted it or not...would I advise? Oh, yes, had I paid for it? By this time I was really frustrated with the experience.\r\nOn top of this the cake was dry! My sister actually choked on it! \r\nThe food designer bragged about this being the premier place in town to get a cake from. Their ego is way out there. This is an overrated boutique cake shop that is resting on it's review laurels from the past.\r\n

Pros: a cute shop if they would clean it up

Cons: unorganized and ego-inflated staff, dry cake

We recently ordered a very expensive cake for our son's birthday party with 50 guests. We found many pieces of hair in the cake and were very embarrassed. We should have left the moment we discovered how dirty and dusty and cluttered the bakery was. I had faith, however and ordered the cake anyway in support of our community business. We were very embarrassed and our guests were apalled at the multiple findings of hair in the chocolate cake. Back to Jaciva's!

Vegan? Want cake? Go here. I'm not vegan, but it's the only cake place my vegan friends every grab a slice from. They claim it's the best, I take their word for it. Although it's a little more expensive than say - Safeway, for god's sakes, IT'S NOT SAFEWAY! These fine folks put a good amount of love into their creative cakes and it shows.. or should I say 'tastes'? You can tell these cakes apart. You might want to order in advance if you're looking for something specific as when I go in there the max of cakes I've seen is 3. Very classy little joint, I recommend inspection if you want a blast from the past (amazing old nick-knacks) or a good cake.

Piece of Cake offers some of the finest cake in all of Portland, and quite possibly in all of Oregon. They have delicious frostings, and moist cake. One of the best things about piece of cake is that individual slices can be bought at moderate prices at anytime throughout the day, and they will bring it to you in their lovely sitting area. Their chocolate chantilly cake has been described by many as "heaven on earth," and I'm inclined to agree. The staff is very, very nice and treats each customer with the utmost respect.

"Scrumptious gluten-free baked goods" is not a phrase I have a lot of practice saying, as much as I wish I did. Too often, GF goodies range from so-so to downright upsetting. Among other specialties, Piece of Cake has a variety of gluten-free cake options. Unfortunately, I was only able to try one, as the others use a garbanzo-bean-based flour, to which I am also allergic. But to someone who hadn't had a piece of cake in recent memory, the lemon cake I got was actually moist and sweet and notably less dense than drywall, which is not true of many wheat-alternative products.

Piece of Cake was recommended in
a Portland magazine as one of the best
cake bakers around. They also cater,
so if you are having a party, wedding,
etc. They are the best.
