The food was ok; my veal was a little fatty. What really ruined the experience was the owner, Al. He was over the top and mistreated both customers and employees. His behavior made our dining experience most uncomfortable. I would skip on

Delicious food, quaint and romantic dining room...what more can you ask for? How about staff that remembers you by name, great economical wines by the glass, and some of the best warm bread on the planet. We go early because we have a toddler and don't want to disturb the "date crowd" and we are treated like old friends every time we sit down. If you want to linger and enjoy a bottle of wine in the European style- great. If you need to eat quickly and rush off to the theater-they'll make that happen too.

I have been to La Fourno a few times now, and each time I have received the most unbelievable service. Most recently we hosted a guest from out of town, and Al who is one of the owners, personally insured that we were well taken care of, which we most certainly were by Francis our server. During my previous visit, I stopped there with friends after a day of exploring the city. Again we were personally attended to by the owner, who actually called the owner of Society Hill Playhouse and arranged for us to see the show that evening! Each time we have been there, the food was plentiful, creative and delicious! This is one of my favorites.

The name of this restaurant is not La Fourno Pizza. It is La Fourno Ristorante Trattoria. Yes, it has authentic Italian pizza like you would have in Italy, but it is so much more...

We just went to La Fourno last night and will definitely be back again and again. We were with 2 other families for our traditional visit to Philly for Christmas. There were 11 of us which included 5 children from 8 to 14yrs old. The owner was wonderful with the children. The ambiance, the service and the food were phenomenal. From the veal in the veal parm being so moist, the pasta dishes to die for, the brick oven pizza done to perfection, to the amazing deserts, it was well worth the visit.
I can't wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I recently made a trip to Philly. We followed the great reviews on this site and ate at La Fourno. The reviews couldn't have been more accurate. The meal was fantatstic!! The wait staff was friendly and courteous. They have a dinner special where two can dine for $60. This includes appetizer, main course, dessert, and cofee. We couldn't make up our minds and decided to have the special. It was simply delicious. I had shrimp marsala and my boyfriend had lobster ravioli. They were generous in portions and we couldn't eat everything! The ambience and decor were great too. I can't wait to go back. If you're looking for a place to dine at an affordable place (or not) and want outstanding service and food, this is the place to go. It is defiinately Philly's best kept secret.

I have avoided this place and all others on South Street for yoears and stuck to "South" South Philadelphia restaurants for Italian. Big mistake. This place is really really good and still autentic Italian food, (Just like you would get in Rome, Bologna or Florence). The staff is very friendly and the food is great! I have never written a restaurant review before but thought I really should since this is our new favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. Grazie!

This place is wonderful--the food is amazing, the prices are very reasonable (my DELICIOUS pesto linguini was $8.95 and came with a salad!), and the service is very nice. There's a sign that says that they're byob on Tuesday and Friday nights...I'll definitely be returning for that! Perfect place for family, friends, or a date, I loved it!

AWESOME. La Fourno has some of the best pizza I've had in a while. Since I'm from NJ I usually stay around home, but it's really nice to get out some times with your friends and go here. The pizza crust was crispy and not soggy like some restaurants and the cheese was really gooey. The people who helped serve me were real nice and the prices weren't bad either. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a casual and fun place on any night of the week.

I've been here several times and they never fail the impress. The bread is homemade and amazing. From the ravioli to the chicken dishes, everything is amazing. The desserts are wonderful too. I would suggest not going right before a showing of 'Menopause: the musical' which is at the Society Hill Playhouse, if you are not going to the show. They have a discount for ticket holders but we went at 5pm on a Saturday and it was packed! After the large groups of women left, it was much quieter. I'm glad to see they are so busy but the usually romantic atmosphere isn't quite the same when there are several large parties. Will definately go again!

Al accomodated our party of twelve before we headed to the theater. He and his wait staff attended to all our dining needs. He also chatted with us about his connection with the theater group, very impressive. I would recommend ordering from the price fix menu for a large party, the choices were delicious and tax and tip are included. The atmosphere was perfect and we had a lovely meal, great conversation and my friends chatted about it all night! Al let us sample this delicious grape/chocolate drink and I put mine in my coffee, yum! We had a fun girls night out and Al and the La Fourno staff just added to a wonderful memory!
Thanks for everything!

We went there and I was starving, having just undergone a medical procedure to extract pre-blood stem cells in preparation for chemotherapy to treat my cancer. We were the only ones in the joint between the hours of 4 - 5PM. The waiter came by often to refill our waters while giving us all the time we needed to pick. My wife was given two free samples of wine, and she settled on one, which was brought. The food was oustanding, and all the staff there catered to us (since we were the only ones, it being a slack day and time), bussing the table, cleaning it, bringing fresh bread. Doubtlessly had it been more packed we would have had less prompt service, but it still would have been great. I highly recommend this place; the neighbor is great for walking and taxis and buses are plentiful, though no rail lines are close.

Pros: "Mood" lightging, staff speaks Italian but enough English to communicate, friendly

Cons: Could be noisy at full hours; can't say for certain

I moved to Philadelphia from Boston almost a year ago. After one trip to La Fourno Trattoria, it has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia! When I called and asked for a last minute reservation for fifteen people, I wasn?t put on hold but immediately transferred to the Manager. The manager was extremely courteous and cared enough to ask about the special occasion we would be celebrating. He also called the day before my dinner in order to confirm my reservation.

When my party arrived, our table was beautifully set up and tucked away in a convenient spot. The ambience of the restaurant is cosy and perfect for a large group or an intimate dinner for two. The lighting, the candle?it was great.

The waiters are excellent and were always smiling (such a delight!). They checked up on us from time to time, but with perfect precision (enough to make sure we had whatever we needed but not too much so that we felt crowded and uncomfortable). The manager checked up on us as well. Sometimes we had more than one waiter helping us. Our food got to us right on time and everything was delicious. All our orders were correct and every dish was prepared just right. The portions are large and the bread is divine! I had never been to Trattoria neither had any of my friends; we unanimously agreed that we had a fabulous time. The service was first class and I plan to celebrate more milestones there. And in between those milestones, I?ll treat my friends from Boston to a delicious Italian experience on South Street.

I eat out a lot and can confidently say that this La Fourno Trattoria gets my highest recommendation. Everyone there is so friendly. The manager and waiters were genuinely happy to have us there. I see myself making multiple trips out there in the future!

PS: Also, there is a VERY CLEAN bathroom convenently located upstairs. This is a big deal for me!!

The staff is extremely friendly, whether you are with a party of two or a party of 10. The pizza is excellent. It comes out hot and crispy, with the perfect amount of toppings. The tiramisu is the best in the world. I have tried tiramisu at pretty much every Italian restaurant I've been to and nothing compares. It's so creamy and fluffy. There are no words to describe how amazing it is. Try it!

Dined here after a show. There were 10 of us and the food and service could not have been better. The servers are ALL very friendly and helpful, even if they weren't your server. The food was outstanding. As I said there were 10 of us and all of our entrees were served together and were hot, something I think is very important and found so seldom. The salad was a house salad, came with the entree, and usually they are not so good. Their house salad was fresh and very tasty. Their desserts were to die for. I can't say enough about this lovely little place tucked in on 6th and South. Don't miss it!

This by far is my favorite Italian restaurant. I have eaten here several times now and have never been less than completely satisfied with the food and service. I've tried most of the entrees and several of the pizzas, all of which are wonderful. The Linguini Primavera is especially good. The true treasure at this place is the amazing tiramisu, the best I've ever tasted. They have a nice selection of wine, good beer available and the coffee is excellent. Perfect every time. The place itself manages to make you feel like you aren't on South Street, which is amazing and commendable. Highly suggest tryng this place. They also deliver if you live in the general vicinity.

I have had the pleasant experience of dining at La Fourno as a patron of the restaurant and as part of a group from my office held in the private dining room. It is rare to find a restaurant that can provide food and service for a private party that is equal to that which is offered to the individual diner. La Fourno excels at both. The food, from pizza to filet mignon, is prepared with only the freshest ingredients by a highly skilled chef which results in a culinary delight for even the most finicky diner. Outstanding customer service appeared to be the primary goal of the owner and waitstaff, along with serving the most delicious food you can find in Philly. Another surprising bonus is how reasonable the prices are. Although I live and work in Wilmington, Delaware, which is 30 minutes away (when I-95 isn't gridlocked), the dining experience is more than worth the travel time. My coworkers were so pleased with our recent office party at La Fourno that many plan on returning on their own. We have only one complaint - It's not close enough for us to go there on our lunch breaks!

I have eaten here several times and always found it to be nothing but exceptional. Even when I showed up on a friday night at 8:30 with 6 other people and the restaurant was crowded, we were seated promptly, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. Further this place is an incredible value; great portions at an incredibly reasonable price. I would say that I have probably eaten here seven different times and had seven different entrees and every one of them was prepared perfectly and presented with near flawless service. It's nice to visit a restaurant that seems to really care about delivering an across the board dining experience.

This is my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. Coming back from a trip to Italy a couple years ago, I searched everywhere for pizza that was as good as in Europe, and this was the best I found. Cute atmosphere, too.

From the FABULOUS pizza to the extraordinarily friendly servers, everything here is perfect. It's not easy finding a cozy, inexpensive place with amazing food. I recommend it to everyone!
