A couple of weekends ago during a cold and rainy Saturday morning, my engine light came on. My regular shop did not answer the phone. I happened to see a copy of a Groupon special we had for Dave's Ultimate Automotive. I called and within two rings, Dwayne answered. He treated me as if I had been a long time loyal customer, although this was my very first time to call. Although his shop is closed on Saturdays, he not only answered the phone, but he made arrangements for a mechanic to see my van that morning. When I got to the shop, the mechanic was extremely friendly and efficient. He checked the van, determined I could keep driving. It was a huge relief to be able to determine that I could continue to drive the van during the weekend. I made an appointment to have the van fixed during the week. When I returned for the scheduled appointment, I found the staff to be very friendly, they called and explained what was wrong with my van, gave me time to think about options. The whole experience was excellent. I have to say that I am most impressed with the fact that Dwayne answered the phone when the shop was closed and made arrangements to have someone look at my van.

I have been using Dave's Ultimate Automotive at the Howard Lane location for about a year now. I've gone to other repair shops that did not even begin to know what customer service means. Needless to say, I did not use them a second time . At Dave's, my service advisor is Brad and he is great...I make sure I talk to him when I bring in my truck. All the managers and techs are excellent and I know that I will receive the best service and repair available. They take the time to explain what needs to be done and will also let me know which repairs I can safely wait on. I need to be able to trust that the repairs are done right the first time and if something does come up, I know Dave himself will make it right. I'm just glad I found these guys! \r\n

Cons: Labor may be on the higher end My story: I have a 98 honda civic which was producing a lot of noise while driving because the wheel bearings were in poor condition. Previously, I'd taken my car to Lamb's Automotive. After a diagnostic, several visits and buying my own part, they took my car, had it for half a day and told me that it couldn't be done because my wheel bearing was old and hard to remove and they did not want to damage the axle. So, no progress after several visits and dollars spent. After a few weeks I had to take my car in for a check engine light issue. I found Dave's by googling for mechanics with good reviews. I mentioned my wheel bearing issue as well and they promised to take a look. They gave me a higher quote than Lamb's on the labor. But I gave the ""go ahead"" because I trusted them after they had fixed my check engine light. The good news: they were able to change the wheel bearing unlike the incompetent mechanics at Lamb's. Here is the best part: They had made a honest mistake - they changed the wheel bearing on the wrong wheel (the mechanic had changed the one which he thought was the worst and not the one i wanted replaced). When I spoke with the service rep, he instantly agreed that it was their mistake. They fixed the wheel bearing on the ""correct wheel"" for free! That's customer service for you! And the car is in great shape now...

Being a female, I fully rely on Dave's staff from the front desk to the mechanics knowing that they will take care of my 1999 4-Runner faithfully and not try to sell me work that is not needed. \r\n\r\nI take my vehicles there for everything including oil-changes and I have my tires rotated every other oil change. The staff has actually cleaned my wheels after rotating the tires which was a great surprise and I was truely thankful as they were really dirty. His staff will notice things such as when they called me to say that my registration stick was expired. I had the new one in my sun visor so the staff at the front desk switched it out for me. That is the kind of extra work that I appreciate very much and not charged for. I am taken to work and picked up at the end of my work day. \r\n\r\nI really appreciate that Dave is concerned about his customers as Dave will call me and inquire about the service that I received. I fully trust the service at Dave's and would not take my vehicle anywhere else. I refer everyone I know to take their vechicles to Dave's Ultimate if they want trustworthy mechanical work and excellent cutomer service. I probably turned purple.\n\nWell, I wrote a scathing email message and Andrew called me back from Dave's almost before I clicked the send button and made an appointment to check it out. Dave, the owner also wrote me an email message saying he would personally look at my car. It turned out that one of the tires that had been moved from the back of the car to the front of the car had a flat spot which was causing the thumping. I wouldn't have noticed the thumping on the back of the car, but it was pronounced with the tire up front.\n\nAndrew also pointed out that one of my tires was about to explode because it was rotten to the core. Since I had just purchased that tire two weeks before at a used tire shop, I was livid. Now, you know I went straight over to that used tire shop and read them a riot act their unborn children will remember.\n\nBut overall, I was really pleased at the concern and time put in by Dave's Ultimate Automotive on my car for a free service. I contacted Dave's South location after reading their reviews online. I was considering the purchase of a nearly new Ford F350 truck listed on ebay from a Ford dealer in Austin. The truck looked great in the listing, and sounded fine after talking to sales staff at the dealership. I had the truck delivered to Dave's for a pre-purchase inspection. Their report pointed out that, contrary to the dealerships claims, the vehicle had been in a wreck at some point and that there was some misalignment issues with some of the body parts. I couldn't be happier with the service that I received from Dave's. I found the staff there to be attentive, polite and professional throughout this process and would recomend them to anyone that may be requiring this type of service.

I took my '01 Montero in to have it checked out. Brakes were squeaking and not even and the engine was misfiring. Big job; but they got it done in 2 days even with a parts crisis! They are the only place I'll take it again, if I have to!

Excellent service from the beginning. I was greeted when I walked in and Dwayne spent as much time as I needed going over my options. When I took the car in for tires/alignment, it took just the amount of time that he quoted. The tech test drove the car before and after the alignment and provided a printout of the readings. Everyone is courteous and helpful. Dwayne remembered me and even kept in mind that I do a lot of my own work when noticing that my belts were damaged and should be changed. Thanks!

i brought my nearly dead ford explorer to dave's hoping they could help...they looked at it but told me the repairs would be more expensive than it was worth and they would probably be followed by other things cropping up. they didn't charge me and they even offered to tow it somewhere for me and to check out any vehicle i wanted to buy so i would know if i was getting a lemon. great old-fashioned service. and they even let me leave it with them several days while i looked around for another vehicle. i plan on using them for whatever vehicle i do buy and also to bring my son's 2006 car to them for it's regular maintenance. good people.

I have been going to Dave's shop ever since he was recommended by a friend. Dave's Auto is the cleanest and most professional shop I have ever been to. This shop is both very professional and friendly. I have lived in Austin all my life and I tried many different auto shops but once I found Dave's I haven't needed to go any where else. They will return you to work or home when you drop off your car, and they pick you up at work or home when they are finished repairing your car. you know i have taken my vehicle so many places since i have been driving and have never felt so inclined to take the effort to write a review of go out of the way to tell someone about my car service. but i guess the times are a changing. this is refreshing in a world like today when every one is in a hurry and all people car about is what can i get. i was calling around for prices on a repair and i had found that lot's of people were about the same price and some were really low. so guess what i took it in to the really low priced place. then they said oh you need this and that. oh yea the price will be more. i decided to pick my car up and try my price calling again. i looked on the computer and found great reviews on Dave's ultimate, so i called them. they were not cheaper than some of the places i called but the reason i went in because the time they took when i called and they really seemed to want my business. i took it in to the Howard lane store and wow what a experience. from the friendly faces of the staff to the hanger on my mirror telling me who worked on my vehicle. they gave me a ride to work and picked me up. so this is my take on Dave's. i can spend my money anywhere and i saw that cheep is not always better. it is great to shop but i don't like the old bait and switch. i thought cheapest price was the goal but Dave's team showed me (and i quote) the value of Dave's. they really seemed to care and gave me some recommendations for the future. Dave, great job from your staff on Howard lane. you guys put the capital S in service.

I took my car to a another local shop that spent 4 days with my car, only to tell me that they could not figure out why it was overheating. They suggested 4 possible issues all of which would have set me back a pretty penny (fan switch, new radiator, new water pump, clogged radiator). They told me to take my car to the dealer because they could not figure it out. \r\n\r\nI learned of Dave's through a co-worker who raved of them. I dropped my car off and chatted thoroughly with the office staff about the issues. By mid-day, I had an estimate and detailed information as to how my car was behaving. The overheating was explained completely, the harnesses and thermostat were ordered up, and my expectations were set as to when I would hear back from Dave's. The following day, I received a call from the staff that my car was ready. \r\n\r\nI never once felt cheated or left in the dark. They treat you as if you were family. \r\n\r\nI wish I had found these guys sooner. I would have saved a lot of money, time and stress. This is my new mechanic!! NOW HERE IS WHERE THE TRUE CHARACTER OF THIS PLACE CAME OUT. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK IN THEY LOOKED AT IT FOR FREE (WHICH THEY SHOULD). THEY HAD FOUND THERE WAS ONE OF THE HOSES TO THE FUEL PUMP WAS OLD AND DRY ROTTED AND LEAKING ALSO. THEY FIXED IT AND DIDNT CHARGE ME. I brought my car in to Dave?s a while ago because of a persistent clunking sound when turning. The technician diagnosed the problem as worn tie rods, which was a reasonable diagnosis. They replaced the tie rods and I picked up my car. After driving if for a while I realized the clunking sound was still present. I eventually brought my car back to Dave?s and they were very accommodating. I did a test drive with the technician and reproduced the problem for him. He was then able to identify the problem and fix it, and I was not charged for the second repair. They even threw in a free oil change. The staff was extraordinarily accommodating and very focused on customer service.\r\n\r\nThere are plenty of shady auto-repair places where they charge you for services you don?t need but Dave?s is definitely not one of them. They go out of their way to make sure you are completely satisfied with your experience and they are honest.

I don't have absolutely anything bad to say about their service because they were polite and friendly to me and my wife, who's car needed a timing belt change. We had it towed to their shop so maybe they didn't think I would pay to have it towed somewhere else. Well knowing that there are other parts that should be changed when doing a timing belt, we were prepared to spend several hundred dollars to fix it when we were quoted well over the thousand dollar area. Got several other quotes for the exact same job for 1/3 of their price. No joke. I'm to busy to mess with my cars at this moment but this is a job I've done myself several times. Adding parts that do not have anything to do with this job, and including in the quote which are perfectly fine parts is not cool. I paid my $100 diagnostics for them to tell me I needed a timing belt (which is the job that I asked for them to do). I'm sure they do good work but at those prices I was out the door.

I now have a place I can actually feel good about.\r\n\r\nI ordered a set of tires from TireRack and had them drop-shipped to Dave's due to the positive reviews on that website. Well, I'm happy to add my experience as another positive. Everyone has extremely friendly and actually treated me with respect. I had the tires installed along with a few other minor items. Everything was completed quickly and at a lower price than I expected.\r\n\r\nAfter I picked my car up, I did notice a problem. The front bumper cover had been pulled loose. It's quite low on my car easy to hang on stuff and pull loose. In fact I've done it myself in the past a couple times on curbs. Anyway, I took the car back the next morning and showed them the loose cover. They took the car immediately and re-attached it with no hassles and even showed me where the damage probably occurred on their lift. To me this shows great integrity. Unexpected accidents happen, but I couldn't have asked for it to have been handled any better. \r\n\r\nI know where I'll be taking our cars from now on.

i brought my montero in thinking it was going to be very expensive. it would not start. i have been there in the past and had good service. they towed it in and diagnosed my vehicle. i was expecting a fuel pump or timing belt since it would not start. when they called they said my key was not working and could i bring up my other one. well i did and they called me back and said it started and all i needed was my security system reprogrammed. i got out spending less than i thought (which is a good thing because last time my ac compressor and computer was out and that was expensive). well when i got there today they did not charge me for my tow. i feel like a lot of other shops would have charged me a lot more or even better yet other shops i don't think would have gone the extra mile and got the correct diagnosis. the techs here really put a lot into what they are doing and not just fix guess at what they do. i thank you Dave for giving my family piece of mind that i don't have to worry about being taken advantage of. Dewayne and Ryan always seem to want to help. Dewayne spent a lot of time with my son talking about the right tires to put on his vehicle. which is great because he knows a lot about tires and my son might have bought the wrong tires. my son even called him on his cell phone after hours and he still was willing to go the extra mile. great job from front to back of the shop Dave

Dave's shop diagnosed and repaired a complex engine problem that could have ruined our only vehicle, and they did it in an amazingly timely fashion. The shuttle is very prompt and convenient but if you want to wait in the lounge, there's good current magazines and a big screen computer with web access to keep you busy. They don't talk down to women about repairs but can explain what needs to be done in clear terms anyone can understand. If using a rebuilt part will save you money and work just as well, they will tell you that. When my Camry's security alarm kept going off and locking up the engine, Dwayne talked me through it on the phone in spite of my frustration, and then Dave disconnected the alarm (at my request) for no charge. If you're a returning customer, they greet you by name when you come through the front door -- unlike most of these national chain repair shops that have a new manager every time you walk in.
