I love the food at Niko Nikos. There is no Greek food that comes close to it.
They have gotten a little expensive in the last few months, but still hands down I spend it because they are really great food.
I am addicted to the Athenian

Ever have a Greek breakfast sandwich? I had one for the first time at their new Market Square location, in downtown, off Milam.\r

There are six different Greek breakfast burrito-like sandwiches which are $3.95 each. They are wrapped

I was seriously excited to finally go to NIko Niko's. Ever since I moved to Houston Ive heard about this place but never had a chance to go. Yes its wonderful that the business has a cult following and is seeing success. Yes I love the funny greek drawings on the wall. Yes its always a good vibe to see a never ending line of people ordering food. Though when you finally stalk a table thats availabe, wait in line for ten minutes and finally get your food what you get is a really lame tasting gyro. Absolutely nothing special. I was really disapponted. We also ordered a chicken dish and salad. Nothing was particuarly yummy. The only thing I liked was their custard/pastery dessert. I will always try a place once. I wont be back again, Ill have to hunt down a Greek joint that is more flavorful...

They have either changed vendors for their jumbo breaded shrimp or their recipe. I used to enjoy their lightly breaded shrimp. Today's batch was the size of a chicken leg! When you bite into the huge shrimp, you quickly learn that it's all breading. My shrimp wasn't cooked long enough because the breading inside was gooey. I was really disappointed. The salad was the best part of my lunch. Even the french fries were off today.

They say you always remember your first; this was love at first bite for me! Many years ago I was introduced to gyros at some random festival; it was there I instantly grew a passion for Greek food. Then I was taken to a place called Niko Niko's, a Houston favorite which as my stars suggest is an A+ place for great Greek eats. My favorite dish has to be the Hercules, try it on your next visit and you will see why. Caution, you might moan more than that Valentines night you spent with your........ Happy eating!

Pros: Everything including the fries !

I paid $10.95 for a Gyro....couple of pieces of dry meat, tomato slices and pita bread with a heap of overdone fries that I had to find my food in.

Sharing drinks, 2 adults and 2 small kids eating hamburgers, gyros and chicken fingers was 32$.

We sat outside in the cold because the resturaunt was packed on a Sunday after church. Don't go then, it was a free for all for seats.

The line was rushed....you get to look at a menu for the first time when you reach the spot where your expected to order. If you hesitate to think about gyros vs. hamburgers you may be lynched by the big line behind you.

I love Niko Nikos. I spend every birthday there. It is absolutely my favorite Houston dining experience. First of all, the appetizers. I always order the hummus, it is some of the best I have ever tasted. The second must order is a Greek salad, the salads are the perfect size with delicious Feta cheese and great Greek salad dressing. The entree that I always order is what I believe to be called the Hercules plate. This plate is a combination with chicken, lamb, and beef. All three of which are delicious. Conan like meat!!!!! It also comes with your choice of a side, mostly potato sides. The french fries are great, but I love the oven potatoes. You must save room for dessert. The entrees are gigantic, so take some home, the dessert is a must. I have tried almost every dessert and have not been disappointed once. I also always order the iced chai tea, I know it sounds strange for a Greek restaurant to have Chai tea, but it is fantastic!! Conan strongly recommend Niko Nikos!!!!!!!!!!

I had the Lamb Kabab(sp?) and it was just delicious! I was worrying about the smell of the lamb (that kind of heavy, almost fishy smell), but, don't worry at all! It was just delicious! the vagie came with it was natually sweet and felightful, even the onions was a little burned. The potato was good with a special undescribable taste and the pita was just great! the texture was just perfect. and moreover, the sause (the cucumber one) was just good, refeshing. Gyro texture was not dry but not melting like it was raw. The dressing was nice and light, not greasy. Gyro taste was just right, not too heavy like other places. The taste made sure you will be able to eat the whole thing without feel bad on your tounge. Salad was just excellent! They even put a REAL big piece of feta cheese! (according to my friend whom have been to Greece) Unbelievable! Come hungry, and you will be sure to be full! The only thing is that, you gotta come early, so you will have a seat! I went there around 6pm, and it was almost filled up! Me and my company struggled to find a seat! Just great place! We will definitly go there next time!

The absolute best thing at Niko Niko's are the oven potatoes. How good can you get? Sprinkle some more of the seasoning over them, extra seasoning is in parmesan cheese shakers on the tables, and we are talkin.'

The Pork Chops are delicious! They are marinated in olivie oil, lemon, and garlic. I must say, though, that the chops are thinner than they used to be.

The lamb kebob is a good choice, also. The lamb and veggies are cooked perfectly.

How can you go wrong with gyros? Simple, delicious, satisfying. If you crave something on the lighter side, the pesto salmon and trout are lovely, as well.

Now that the weather is turning colder, I have to recommend that you try some of their coffees. They are never a disappointment,. They even have hot cocoa for the kiddos, or the kiddos at heart.

So, with that said, what are the bad things about Niko Niko's?

The Parking - I hate thinking back to when there was no new parking lot and we had about a dozen spaces in the lot and maybe 6 in the front to work with. We all knew the drill, park alongside the street. Now that the parking lot has been expanded, guess what? We still know that there is a chance we have to park on the street again because they also explanded the outside and the left side of the restaurant.

The Serveware & Utensils - With these prices, why oh why are we still eating on stuff I do not even serve at my BBQs? I saw a fellow reviewer mention the amount of trash they must go through. Indeed.

Prices & Portions - I know the economy is suffering and to buffer the prices of expansion, Niko Niko's has reduced portions and raised prices. Did they think those that go there often would not notice? The heaping serving of fries and the thick cut pork chops are not what they used to be. We are definitely paying for not only the expansion, but the location. Niko Niko's has an excellent patio people watching setup.

I adore Niko Niko's. They have me hooked and while I do not like some of the changes, or lack of, where else can I get that wondeful passion fruit iced tea? Those delectible oven potatoes, the cool tzatziki sauce, the tasty marinated feta cheese (which is why it is not served crumbled, do not be so lazy) and the sweet naughty honey balls...

NOM!

After two visits, I come to the same results about this cafe. The appearance is simple but the challenge is locating a parking spot. For example, my trip during the work week at lunchtime required a drive around the cafe until a parking spot became available and my weekend trip was easy as long don't drive a large vehicle. Once inside, you stand in the a line to place your order, pay your, receive your pager and then seat yourself. When your pager goes off, you go pickup your order and enjoy.
The food was excellent, for it meet my expectation of what Greek food taste like, and the price was idea. I recommend the Greek plate called Hercules or the Gyro plate.

Everything was just okay to me. I didn't really love it. It has gotten a lot of good reviews but I just didn't really like it. I had the greek salad and didn't like it very well. It came with a brick of cheese on top instead of crumbles, which I didn't really like.

I can't say I will ever go back.

We have always enjoyed the food and the service, however the plastic forks always break, you would think they would upgrade to something a little more sturdy considering the prices they charge. I will recommend to atleast eat here once.

I've been eating here for years and the prices are high while the quality of the food is steadily declining, Gyros are greasy, portions are shrinking, fried food tastes like burnt oil, and to top it off half the time the counter staff is rude. The parking lot expansion was nice, but everything else is getting worse. I also agree with the previous poster about the absolutely MONUMENTAL amount of trash they create with absolutely no efforts to conserve or recycle. Very environmentally unconscious.

I just recently dined at Nikos Nikos for the first time and the food was delish, service was great and I defo look forward to returning however in this day and age how can such a popular restaurant get away with serving EVERYTHING in disposable containers?!

Plates and bowls are styrofoam, cups and utensils are plastic - everything goes in the trash. I do not even want to begin to imagine how much trash this restaurant produces...

Like I said - this was my first visit and in my haste for a gyro maybe I walked by the "We Recycle" sign or just didn't take notice of their recycling bins (please, please tell me you guys recycle at least some of what is tossed...) but, when as a society we are being taught to be mindful of the amount of trash we produce, to recycle what we can, and even bring our own bags to grocery stores I cannot believe that we may one day have to bring our own plates and cups to dinner at Nikos Nikos.

I really hope I am wrong but I expected more from a Houston landmark such as Nikos Nikos - time to get eco-friendly guys...!!

Love the gyro plate and their used to be enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day. But the servings have shrunk so the 'value' part of the equation has caused a star to be lost. Still some of the best greek food in the city.

My husband and I ate regularly (1 x week for 2 years) at Niko Niko's until recently when the quality of food s decreased and the prices increased.

Here is what we used to pay for our regular take-out order along with the new price of each item:

Hummus with Pita (half order): was $3.95, now $5.95
Small greek salads : was $3.75, now $4.75
Chicken Avgolemono soup: was $4.50, now $5.95
Gyro sandwich: was $6.75, now $7.95

Not only have the prices increased but the quality declined drastically. The Hummus with Pita half order used to come with a generous portion of fresh veggies. Now the order includes 2 tomatoes, 2 cucumbers, 2 peppers, and 2 olives---all for $2 more than earlier this year. The greek salads used to be full of fresh veggies as well. Now they come with a bowl full of lettuce and 1 small slice of onion, 1 tiny banana pepper, a couple of cucumbers, two slices of tomatoes, and olives ($1 more). The chicken soup used to be bigger and full of chicken chunks. Now, the soup comes in a container 1/3 smaller in size and you're lucky if you get one chunk of chicken. ($1.20 more).

Niko Niko's is overpriced and overrated!

This place is among my favorite 3 places to eat in all of Houston. I've never had bad food, the portions are large, and the atmosphere great. I could eat here several times a week if I had a limitless wallet!! Be prepared to always stand in a line, but don't fret, the food is WELL worth the wait. Parking has improved, so if you've heard bad things about parking, it's probably from someone who hasn't been in a while. I eat here about 3 times a month.

First and last time customer. I was led here by all the great reviews this restaurant has received. I tried the gyro with french fries. Bad choice. I had to throw away most of it because it was awful. The meat was dry and the fries were soggy and tasted like burnt oil. I added some of the sauce that came with the gyro to give it some flavor, but it was in vain. I felt sick for two days after eating this food. I guess some of the other plates might be good, but I'll never know because I don't plan to return. I have a feeling the owner writes or pays people to write some of the great reviews about the gyros to fool us into coming to this restaurant. Save your $ and dine elsewhere. Peace out!

The salads are good, but you pay through the nose. You can finally park here, which is charming. My wife is nuts about this place. My wife also eats Lucky Charms for dinner sometimes. I guess you'll have to make up your own mind regarding whom to believe.

I love Niko's and go there regularly. I am originally from Chicago, then I lived in Arizona for 9 years, and have been to Greece twice. Now I live in Houston, and the food at Niko's is just as good as Chicago and Greece. It's such a breath of fresh air, coming from Arizona where there was no good Greek places whatsoever. My parents still live in Arizona, and whenever they come here, Niko's is the first place we go to eat.

Now I live in Houston, and the food at Niko's is just as good as Chicago and Greece. It's such a breath of fresh air, coming from Arizona where there was no good Greek places whatsoever. My parents still live in Arizona, and whenever they come here, Niko's is the first place we go to eat.

I went to Niko Niko?s last night and spent $15 on rolled cabbage. I paid $15 for ground beef mixed with rice rolled in a cabbage. Once again, I paid $15 for a mixture of GROUND BEEF ANS RICE. I should add that I ate it on plastic wear!!!

THIS RESTAURANT IS OVER PRICE. FOR $15 A PLATE A EXPECT MORE THAN PLASTIC WEAR AND SERVE YOUR OWN DRINK SERVICE.

The food was alright but I could have eaten better for $15 or cooked it at home.

My husband is from Greece, and mentioned to the manager that one of their dishes is not authentic since it was made with beef and not lamb, and the manager literally tells him that if he wants that entree with lamb then he needs to go back to Greece!! How rude is that?!?!?! After that comment he said he would never eat here again because of the rude service and lack of authenticity and the manager tells him that if he doesn't leave then she will call the cops. I swear, he never said a harsh word to her and she threatened to have him arrested. Haha. Needless to say we won't be going back.

Niko Niko's is a great joint. Great food and great service. I've been in many times and I've never left disappointed. The portions are big here and although prices recently went up about 5%, it is still definitely worth it. The gyro meat is tender, moist, and has the perfect hint of spices. Other plates such as the cheese-steaks, lamb kebob, and chicken salads are amazing as well.

The most notable thing, in my opinion that puts this place on the map is the service. Customer service here is top-notch, especially considering how busy the restaurant can be. The counter-staff is extremely friendly and very attentive. They handle hundreds of customers a day with precision and excellent skill. On top of that they are very knowledgeable about their product.

My hat is off to you guys! Keep the good food and service coming!

Amazing greek salad.. lots of feta. Gyro sandwich is delicious and not greasy. They also have really good french fries and baklava. Sometimes it can be busy with long lines but it's well worth it. They added more seating room and parking, and despite the large crowds that can sometimes roll in around 6 pm, they are very nice and the service is good. This place is my favorite place to eat in Houston, hands-down!

Improved parking! Compared to prior customer's postings, Niko Niko's has improved their parking situation. The new outdoor seating is really nice, and on a day like ours it made for a very enjoyable outdoor meal for the lunch club. Portions were very generous and this was an overall "good" value. Perhaps even, a great value. The kitchen pushes out quality food and fast with excellent technical skill. Very consistent throughout our lunch club's meals. This is a very casual place and the plates and utensils match the (cheap food) theme with all disposable plastic wares (seemingly from Sam's Club). The disposable wares (are they earth friendly?) seemed out of place while enjoying the new outdoor patio.

Highlights:
The Soutzoukakia (Greek meatballs in tomato sauce) was outstanding. We were warned this dish would take extra time to prepare (at least 20 minutes). It is worth the wait and recommended for all to try if you can spare the extra time. Patio Seating (music, lights, fans ). Greek Passion Tea. Quality Food - Gyro, Feta/Spices, Potato Wedge Fries, etc. Restrooms were Clean.

Lowlights:
The Greek salad was rather underwhelming. Although the feta and spices were good, the ice berg lettuce seemed rather flat (regular "cheap" fare). Potential Parking Problem - Rainy weather could create a mud pit in the newly opened parking lot. Long Lines, but move quickly - Get there early for lunch! Gyro Plate (not the same Greek effect as the Gyro sandwich). Traffic (What can you do?). The Chicken Greek Salad meal - overloaded with dressing and stemmed iceberg on the cheap side. Beverage Station - location prior to ordering food causes confusion amongst patrons in line.

Niko Niko's is the most wonderful and tasty Greek food you can find in the area. They are really inexpensive and they have fast service in a casual setting. Just awesome!

Niko's on Montrose was a terrible experience with long line, very crowded, very noisy, no service, average-bland food, hard to find a place to sit...wouldn't come back here.

Great food! Don't be deterred by the long lines because they're suprisingly fast. Love the gyros, lemon potatoes and hands down, one of the best (and biggest serving size) pork chops around town. The fries have changed a bit but all the same, it's still satisfying. Carpool with your friends during dinner/lunch or else, one of you will be stuck circling the parking lot/block for a parking spot!!

A place for people who have not eaten at an authentic non-Americanized Greek restaurant.

The order of Dolmathes was bland, with no Greek spices, it tasted like regular fast food grind meat and mushy rice processed together.

The Gyros slices were OK but lacked the pizzazz I am used to, & the chicken chunks were dry and lifeless. The tzatziki sauce & yalandji dolma were OK but again not what I am used to.

The Oven Potato was the best thing on the plate, this coming from a person who cannot get enough Dolmathes and Gyro slices

I am a picky person when it comes to restaurants, I don't deal well with bad food or bad service- niko niko's has neither. The food here is consistently great, they are fast and attentive, and that's why it is always busy! If I lived nearby I would be very fat from their food. That being said here are the downsides:
The last time I went the dolmas were way too salty, otherwise I've never had an issue with the food. I wish they would give more pita with some of the entrees and definitely with the hummus appetizer, I always go back and buy more. Parking is annoying, of course, but try to go at an off hour and you'll be fine. The restaurant is cold (what restaurant isn't cold?) but eating outside in Houston can sometimes be iffy (rains spontaneously, too hot, insects, smokers) so maybe bring a coat if you're always cold like me.

Ate here for the umpteenth time today and wow, these guys never get it wrong. The model of efficiency, they just plow through miles of customers with smiles all the way. The renovation/expansion has helped ease the pain of finding a table. Greek salad with chicken is always awesome, also the Greek lasagna thing they do is wonderful. Even the burgers are pretty good. Highly recommend it.

This is my second time to live in the Houston area, The food at nikkos has not changed in my 5years abroad. their gyros- YUMMY. I have tried all items on menu and never had a stinker, their seafood is so fresh, just takes time to cook, because it is done to order it does not sit and get nasty. The only bad thing - too many people know about it.

this quaint greek restaurant tucked in the heart of montrose gives a hole-in-the-wall-fast-food-joint vibe. the ambience is much to be desired of, but the decent greek food more than makes up for that. it's a great place for a quick bite to eat or when you're in a hurry and need fast service.*

Busy place - but they can handle the lines! Friendly service, quick delivery of food. The food is very good, and plentiful. Have the gyro - its wonderful, with the lemon potatos...yummy. The greek salad is choc full of feta, and a small size is plenty for two to share. Wine is reasonably priced too. Wish we had one in the Galleria area!

My perspective is a bit biased, after living in Greece for many years. I get the impression someone without the Greek experience would be pretty happy here. Generous portions, good food, fun atmosphere. For a Greek its more tricky. You have to balance the nostalgic experience on the one hand, with Americanized versions of Greek dishes and OK quality cuisine on the other hand. I love Niko Niko's but I'm just being honest. For example, the souvlaki is cut into chunks of meat that are too big (in GR its bite sized, and a small bite at that), the pita is not heated up on the oily stove like it should be for sandwiches, the tzatziki has no taste, and the gyros comes from an unauthentic processed meat log. But you have to accept it this way, I suppose. Americans do want big chunks of steak, don't want greasy bread, and don't want garlicky tzatsiki. Making Gyros the traditional way is too impractical. I will suggest heating up the pita on a dry stove instead of a greasy one. Mythos in Athens does this (new wave of Greek fast food, I guess) and it comes out pretty nice! Like I said, its a compromise. The Xoriatiki Salata is very good, made the way its supposed to be (which is near impossible to find in the US! NO LETTUCE, OK!) The Kreatopita and other pies are excellent. Very very good. Rice and potatoes are awesome. Chicken is awesome. Desserts are fantastic. Wine selection is good. Stuffed cabbage, stuffed grape leaves, and eggplant salad are all A+. Meatballs were overcooked, moussaka did not impress me. It was cafeteria quality. Sorry about that I'm just being honest. Maybe its another Americanized version (there was too much ground meat). So, overall, thumbs up, go check it out... especially the dishes I suggested. Even purists like me will be very happy with some (but not all) of the dishes. I hope this review helps. I'm trying to be as honest as possible, for those who know their Greek food. Kalh opexi!
