They made me feel like an idiot for bothering them with my questions.... so I went there in person.
Public humiliation is worse than just over the phone...

I went to County Stihl on a friends recommendation. I was looking for a part that no other dealer could find for me. I made the drive out there to find that they had a perfectly good used part that they sold me for pretty cheap. The part I needed was off a really old chain saw that the parts were discontinued for. Not only did they have the part I needed to get it running they took the time to help me install it and fix the pull rope right on the spot. Without their key insight and help I would have spent hours at home trying to figure it out only to realize that I couldn't start it because a rope.

Pros: Used parts like new, great service

I went in looking to get some information on a few different chainsaws, not only did they give me great info on all their saws, but asked specific questions on what I wanted to use it for and fitted me into the right saw for me. There was no pressure to buy, but I soon found out that their prices were lower then their competitors

A great little shop with more gadgets than I could ever imagine. Tom and his staff are fun, friendly and very helpful. We've purchased a couple of garden related items. The riding lawn mower practically beat us home. Prices are fair for both new products and repairs done in shop.A great small business in the Battle Ground/Brush Prairie community.

Beware of bringing an older stihl saw or probably any other machine to these people.

I asked them to check what would be needed to "get it running". Cost $20 - waiver since I was already buying a new saw that day- a small one that I would handle)

They took apart the saw and 5 days later, gave me an approx $250.00 estimate.
Upon further questioning, I found out that they didn't test anything. They simply have a "recommended" list from Stihl of parts to replace on older saws. I was then told it would cost an addition $20 to just put it back together (which i was not told about when I left the saw). Also specialized tools are needed to put it back together.

So... didn't matter what my saw REALLY needed!! They could have just told me their plan. They could have given me a list of "stihl recommended repair parts" for my model of saw and NOT even taken apart the saw!! But the way they do it, you are left with wasting $20 if you don't want to spend $250 on an old saw for parts it might not even need if you don't want to buy a new saw when you get this bad news...and/or spend another $20 just to get your saw put back together if you don't want to spend $250 on your old saw (specialized tools needed for putting an internal part back in).

OR..hmmm... rather than spend Approx $250 on an old saw, you can get a $20 off the a new saw ($20 inital cost of estimate of repair)!!! hmmm

(also - hopefully you will leave them with the box of parts that was once your old saw..hmm....i wonder if the old saw get the parts it ACTUALLY needs and is resold as "rebuilt"?? - maybe not through the shop but craigslist, ebay, etc

What a SCAM!!

I demanded that they put my saw back together since no had told me that it would cost an ADDITIONAL $20 for the seven min of work (i timed it) to put my saw back together.

later talking with my nephew, from whom I got the saw, I found that one of the most expensive parts $35.00, he had already recently replaced!

Pros: good variety of stihl products

Cons: SCAM on repairs of older saws - leads people to "have to " buy a new saw!! BEWARE
