A great collection of modern art. They also have plenty of other collections for everyone. Go here if you have any love for art, because you will find something you like.
5The BMA is great, currently its running Picasso's original sketches as an exhibit. They have everything from classic to modern art. I especially enjoy the modern art exhibit that has pieces from Warhol, Pollack, and Lichenstein. Its free every first thursday of the month and in the city paper you can normally find what things are going on there. They often have speakers, poets etc to spice it up a bit.

Unlike some museums that are so huge that there is no way to finish looking through all the exhibits, the BMA is a nice sized place with a great range in its collections. the matisse cone collection is nice, and the modern art exhibits are quite interesting too. the outdoor sculpture garden is very nice to stroll through, particularly in the spring when there are lots of rabbits around. Also worth checking out is the restaurant at the BMA--Gertrudes, which has $10 entrees on Tuesdays and outdoor seating on a lovely patio when the weather is nice!

You could get lost in this museum. There are outstanding collections featuring Picasso, Warhol, and especially Matisse (including the world-famous collection of the Cone sisters of Baltimore). There are always great traveling collections from other museums around the world. Come out for the Free First Thursday of each month for live music, performances and free tours through the museum.

The BMA is a great place to go to see both local and world-famous pieces. It's free every 1st tuesday of the month--a great deal! The parking is pretty bad, but not impossible to find. There are multi-media exhibits from painting and sculptures, to photography and even rotten fruits! There is a great display of ancient art and art from foreign cultures. You'll be sure to find something for everyone here! Be sure to check out the gift shop!
PROS: Free on 1st Tuesday!
CONS: The parking.

every first thursday is free at the BMA. This is a great opportunity to see both general collections and special exhibits. they have world class rooms of ancient art and artifacts and also period furnishings and dishware, etc. We (and the other guests) really enjoyed the minatures room-- very nifty permanant display.
on site restaurant looks great too-- we'll try that next time :)
take time to enjoy the outdoor sculpture garden as well. it's very peaceful.
PROS: diverse collection, on site restaurant
CONS: lack of parking

I was really impressed by its art of work in this muesuem. This mueseum is located near to John Hopkins and is really huge. It has a huge collection of Cones which is indeed my fav. This is definitely the museum to stop off at first if you havent been before and you appreciate fine art. I am not so fond of muesums but this is the one which I loved...

I highly recommend the BMA. I am not a huge art fan, but when I went there with my girlfriend, we both appreciated it (she is huge into art). Not to mention the restaurant is good.
4The BMA is absolutely beautiful, inside and out. The permanent collection is extensive, plus exhibits rotate often and showcase impressive artists from around the world. Go on the first Thursday of the month for FREE admission! Admission fees are reasonable, regardless, with discounts for students and seniors. As with most art galleries, not a great place for young kids. Usually peaceful and calm, you could relax here all day strolling through these many masterpieces.

The Cone Sisters collections is amazing. I highly recommend a visit.
2The Cone Sisters collections is amazing. I highly recommend a visit.
Pros: Great Collection
The Baltimore Museum of Art is an imposingly large structure filled with well organized exhibits that instruct and entertain. It is more well suited to adults than children, largely because of its scope, but they do have occasional children's days with special activities that are worth attending. I find the smaller Walter's gallery more accessible, but the Baltimore Museum of Art is definitely worth a trip as well.

This is one of the best and most under-rated museums I have been to- the Cone collection is amazing and the other collections are also good. There is something for everyone's taste at the BMA.
