I absolutely LOVE DR. Dawson. She came recommended to me by several friends and I was warned that she was very no nonsense and cut and dry. However after several visits to her for my condition I began to appreciate her approach and I felt that she genuinely cared about me as a patient as well as my concerns. She agreed to treat me when no other doctor would take my case, she allowed me to express my concerns and apprehensions and then discussed with me the pros and cons over everything. She made me feel empowered and that I AM IN CHARGE of my OWN HEALTH! If you are looking for a doctor to coddle, spoon feed, and sugarcoat information to you then NO this is NOT the doctor for you. If you want to be educated, if you want the truth, if you want to leave with a sense of hope and empowerment then please GO SEE DR. DAWSON!

In December of 2009 I drove from Alpharetta all the way downtown because I wanted to go to a holistic gynecologist. The day that I went it was pouring rain, but still I made it. The office is gorgeous, but I immediately felt out of place because it is predominantly black women who work in the office which didn't bother me, but I felt discriminated against being a white woman. The doctor spoke down to me and while I went through the entire appointment and exam, I would not return.
I was very disappointed.

I searched high and low for a good GYN, I've always been very shy and unfortunately that shyness caused me to be irregular at getting my annual woman examination, just the thought of it made my skin crawl. I knew I wanted a woman doctor, and I knew i wanted an African-American doctor, I wanted her to be well into her practice, holistic, and have a gentle touch. I thought I was asking alot for one person, but I must say when I fumbled across Dr. Felecia Dawson, just looking at her picture gave my heart comfort. My first visit to her office was absolutely pleasant. I was an hour late because I got lost, her staff assist me by cellphone to the office, she still made time to see me and spend time with me since it was my first visit. Every single staff member was warm and inviting. I was greeted with smiles and accommodation. Dr. Dawson's warm smile and gentleness relaxed my mind and soul, it was the most pleasant woman's examination I have ever received and I feel so happy and satisfied that I finally found me a physician I feel comfortable enough to ask any questions about anything. I referred her to my mother and a co-worker of mine.

I chose Dr. Dawson prior to delivering my first son because I read that she was a very competent and wholistic care provider. I also appreciated that her location was downtown which is close to where I lived and worked. I will say that she was knowledgeable and direct. But I never felt "cared" for. I received much better care from her Nurse Practitioner, Ms. Lana Jackson who is the one that I preferred to meet with for follow up visits. She took the time to make me feel comfortable, make me smile, build rapport, and to ease my concerns that any woman would have with her first pregnancy.
Furthermore, Dr. Dawson was nowhere to be found when I actually went into labor. Although the name of her practice is Women for Women, a man showed up to assist with the delivery whom I had never met before. He yawned as he walked in and had a "let's get this over with" type of attitude. I later found that he was the only man in the Women for Women rotation. Just my luck. My delivery was horrible, and my child suffered from minor complications with Erbs Palsey as a result of his carelessness. I have the hospital nurse and the Emory medical staff to thank for the birth of my child. The last minute doctor should have just stayed asleep.
The circumcision Dr. Dawson performed on my child was beautiful. However, I would have preferred that she was there to deliver my baby. She came the following day to greet me, to congratulate me, and to explain the medical details of my son's condition which I later found is often a result of medical malpractice.
Overall, I would have to say that my major concern with Dr. Dawson is her impervious manner. She seemed so aloof and detached during a time in which a woman needs the most support from her medical provider. I understand that she no longer delivers babies which is fine because I wouldn't choose her office for my second pregnancy.

I have been going to Dr. Dawson for over 14 years. She performed my tubal ligation after my son was born. Prior to going to Dr. Dawson, I was going to another OB-GYN. He delivered my son, and he had a very good bed side manner, very personable and friendly, but the delivery was a nightmare. I thought that he was either incompetent or racist, I'm still not sure which, but I have found Dr. Dawson to be knowledgeable, warm, direct and honest.
I understand how some people may confuse her directness with being impersonal. But I think people mistake her intentions. I have found that although she may appear to be impersonable, she is really probing and evaluating the condition that may have brought you to her office in the first place. She is a very knowledgeable doctor and I have learned so much from her. She does not deserve the rant that some people are giving her.
Granted, some people need more hand holding than others, but that's what friends and family are for. When I go to the doctor, I need someone that is knowlegeable, that listens, that is able to make a diagnosis, and is able to treat my ailments, I don't need a best buddy or a friend. When we separate two it is easy to determine which was has more value.

I have read the reviews listed here and was shocked at some of the responses. Dr. Dawson delivered my son for me in 12/00. I could not have asked for better care or service. Dr. Dawson, while strict, was extremely informative and made me feel very comfortable. Her staff and office environment was pleasant and inviting. I am currently pregnant now and was just following up on things with her when I came across this site. I am appalled to hear some of the things being said about her. She made my pregnancy bearable and I will always be thankful for that.

Dr. Dawson was my doctor for 10+ years. Dr. Dawson is caring and very knowledgeable. She may tell you things that may be hard to hear, but believe me, she would not tell you unless you needed to know. Just think about those other doctors who rush through your exam and hardly say anything... I believe Dr. Dawson is a wonderful doctor and if I still lived in Atlanta, she still would be.

I agree with some of the other patients, Dr Dawson is very impersonable, cold and uncaring. She started out to be a great ob-gyn. But you'd better stay in good health or she will dump you as a client. I was given a diagnosis with no after-care information nor a follow up visit. Cold and uncaring is my opinion.

I started using Dr. Dawson when I first moved to Atlanta when she was on Linden avenue. I thought she was phenomenal. I absoulutely loved her nurse practitioner Lana. Her beside manner got worse and worse and after Lana left I left the practice. I took particular offense that when I went to see her about a particular health issue she just looked at me dismissively. When I pressed her about options she said I could refer you to a reporductive endocrinologist but that costs money. I didn't appreciate that judgment. My husband and I both are professionals with decent jobs and she never had to worry about me paying her so what made her think I couldn't afford a reproductive specialists. Also her staff made 2 appointments for me on days when the office was closed. I drove all the way from Alpharetta to find that there was no one there. I will give her credit that when I wrote a letter to complain about that she did take the time to call me herself to say she was making changes in her office staff.

I went to work after my visit and I emailed a few of my girlfriends to tell them about the visit---how courteous, friendly, professional and informative the staff was. I was placed at ease for the first time. And Dr. Dawson is fantastic! Superb! Awesome! I am so very glad to have her as my doctor now and I feel I will be healthier and happier!

Dr. Dawson is serious about your health. She tells it like it is. Several of my co-workers see her. I can tell she has a good heart and sincerely cares about helping me be healthier. I also like her because unlike most doctors, surgery is not the first thing out of her mouth. The office is beautiful and the staff makes you feel like you're at home.

I was a previous patient of Dr. Dawson's and returned this year (2007). She doesn't appear to be the same Doc that I visited years ago. I am now pregnant and saw her for the first time as a pregnant patient. Dr. Dawson entered the room - no congrats on the pregnancy - no nothing. I was uncomfortable and intimidated. She started the visit by asking if I had any questions (without a smile)and when I did, her response was very "matter of fact" as if I should've known the answer. I am already at a point where I can't see her delivering my first-born. I'm thinking I should quit while I'm ahead. She probably works well for someone who has no expectations and no personality.

My recent exam with Dr. Dawson was characteristic of professionalism, warmth, and education. Dr. Dawson's staff afforded me a welcoming environment; and Dr. Dawson extended this environment as she executed a thorough exam, patiently addressed my questions, and educated me regarding my options (holistic and conventional) for healing. I was extremely impressed with her skill and knowledge base.

Dr. Dawson was my OB in 2006. I found her to be cold and distant, and in hind sight should have found a new Dr. then. When I did go into labor, the nurses were phenomenal, I had informed them and Dr. Dawson that I had extremely rapid progression in my past 2 birthing experiences. When it was time to deliver the nurse called Dawson to come in and she argued with the nurse that I was not dialated enough and she left! I felt the baby coming and I told the nurse the Dr. was wrong. Within 20 minutes I had delivered the baby. Dr. Dawson literally came in right at the end, the nurse had been the one to actually do all the work. Dr. Dawson was cold, she never smiled. My family was horrified at her behaivour and asked me why in the world I had chosen her! I never went back for my 6 week check up.
