I saw Dr. Eng at beginning of 2011 for acid reflux... i was told i had a hietal hernia and that i had excess stomach acid production. I was prescribed omeprazole (stomach acid reducer) 40 mg day with a rx refills to one year.I traded one set of symptoms for another and suffered constant continuous belching and ibs which i did not have before... Turns out that most cases of acid reflux is from too little acid not too much. This condition is called hydrocloria. As people age they produce less stomach acid not more. I had to figure this out on my own and i am not an MD. Dr. Eng and other GI docs like him just treat the symptoms of acid reflux so while you may feel better at first you end up making your low stomach acid condition worse.. There is a test for hydrocloria but he didn't bother to take it to see the root of my problem... My stomach is not digesting my food!!!! so lots of gases form from lack of digestion and fermentation... this put pressure on stomach and cause reflux....thats the root of the problem...I am now on an hydrocloric acid supplement with pepsin to supplement my stomach acid and i just ate a meal without one belch.... this is very dangerous condition because of lack of nutrient absorption over time can lead to all sorts of probs and cancer. GI docs only care about doing procedures like endoscopy, colonoscopy etc..... that is their bread and butter.

The office fit me in right away. I was able get an accurate diagnosis after some simple testing. Dr. Eng is very thorough and smart.
