I saw Dr. Engler in March, 2011 for itchy eyes and stuffy nose that were driving me crazy. Eyedrops, Zyrtek, nothing helped. Office staff is very nice and helpful. Before seeing the doctor, I talked with a nurse for a few minutes about what medicines I take, if I have any dogs or cats, etc. Then they did allergy tests on me and then the doctor came in. Do you remember the doctor in that Jack Nicholson movie, "As good as it gets"?. Nicholson's waitress had a sick kid so she couldn't come to work. He was obsessive and neurotic, didn't want another waitress, so he sent an allergist to examine the child. The allergist was married to Nicholson's agent in the movie. Anyway, the guy was dressed kind of casual, but he spent a lot of time listening before he interupted with anything. Dr. Engler reminded me so much of him--sincere, smiled, really cared whether I got better or not. He spoke clearly, asked me a bunch of questions, talking with me and typing my answers into the computer. I was allergic to dust mites, trees, cats and mold. He explained the various ways to treat allergies. Said don't get a cat, do a few things to avoid dust, changed my medicnes, explained what each medicine was and exactly what it did. Some you have to take every day, some just when you feel bad. They have this allergy shot program that goes very fast, so the shots start working within a few weeks. Called Rush. I sat in a room surfing the 'net on their wifi and every so often the nurse came in with a stronger allergy shot. The nurses are all great. They have all been working there for like fifteen years. I met one who started in the 1970's. Once in a while, I blew my air into a computer to make sure I wasn't having a bad reaction. Long day, but worth it. The next week I got my first high dose shot, now I'm about to start taking the shots only once per week. Symptoms: gone. Doctor: nice, smart, engaging. Even told me a bunch of ways to save money. This is the allergy doctor you've been looking for. On follow up, I saw a PA named Lisa. She was excellent. Patiently answered about 15 questions like she had all the time in the world. My girlfriend wants to bring her daughter after she gets on my insurance.
