this hotel is clean and has pleasant furnishings. The bedding looks fairly new. The only issue was that we thought the breakfast was a complimentary one that came withe the stay. It wasn't. It was a lot nicer than the general comp buffets. But it was a surprise.
This is a great place to go for drinks or dinner. Located on Brand Blvd. just below the 134 fwy, Milano's sort of blends in to the surroundings. My husband and I have eaten here on many occasions and always been pleased with what we order. I recommend the salmon a la griglia (hope I spelled that right). The waitstaff is always attentive and friendly.
Okay I have worked quite a few places and I just have to say this is definitely one of the best. Employees are valued and treated with respect. The benefits package is generous and the Idealab staff that supports the operating companies couldn't be more responsive and helpful. Of course then there are the free summer BBQ's and Pie n' Burger days. The culture is very open and free, enouraging new thoughts and ways of doing things
PROS: BBQ's and Pie n' Burger Days!
I have used CA Wine Tours when planning a trip for a client as well as more recently when my company toured Sonoma. They were wonderful to work with and very reasonably priced. They picked us up at the Oakland airport and also accomodated a 2nd pick up from the El Cerrito BART station and still had us right on if not ahead of schedule to our first winery. Their staff will book the whole trip for you, from start to finish or take your requests and book a trip around that. They will also just be your transporation carrier if you are the type that prefers to deal directly with the wineries. It is a bit less expensive if cost is an issue. I was very pleased with every aspect of both experiences and would highly recommend them if you are in need of wine country transportation.
I have used the grapeline for a couple of events in the Temecula area. For a reasonable fee they will pick your group up as far away as Santa Monica or Pasadena and bring you down for a glorious day of wine tasting. Our drivers/guides have always been top notch. Grapeline will do as much or as little as you need. Everything from scheduling the tours you request or set up the whole schedule from their selections. Pricing was quite reasonable and they were easy to work with. The only con was that my customer service person wasn't as quick to respond as i might have liked. But aside from that it was a positive experience. Not just for groups, the Grapeline, also has daily shuttle service to the wineries. Check out their website for details. Grapeline also offers a shuttle service in the Paso Robles area too.
Churon is a winery and also a b&b/boutique hotel. We stayed in the Cabernet Suite midweek for a great deal! The balcony overlooked the main road and made for a nice spot to sip some wine and watch the sunset. The suite was very large with a bathroom the size of some hotel rooms. There was a fireplace in the unit and a comfy sitting area. The breakfast in the morning was good and there is usually a hospitality event in the evening for b&b guests. The wines are good too, so if you just stop in you will not be disappointed.
My husband and I stayed here for a week while on vacation. The rooms were large, all suite and very comfortable. Down comforters and four poster beds. There is separate living room with a fridge and fireplace in each unit. They had the best homemade granola each morning for breakfast. The location is on the north end of Hwy 29 in St. Helena.
We hired Judith to design our kitchen/laundry room remodel. She was initially very quick and responsive in getting plans back and initial samples for wall/room colors and floor/counter surfaces. The reason I wouldn't recommend her is her inability to respect budgetary guidelines and an inablity to work with our contractor. She seemed to repeatedly show us things that were well over the budget.we had initially set. This didn't happen once but multiple times. We ended up spending a bit more and choosing a number of her choices but if you are on a strict budget then she may not be for you. The second reason was that our project dragged on for a number of reasons but the most dissappointing thing to me was paying Judith an additional $500 to supervise the cabinet install. She bailed on us we had to surpervise the install and she would not return calls nor did she return the $500. At the end of our relationship with her she was in the process of growing her business and was not very organized in the process. Our job suffered as the business grew and she accepted more clients without finishing and she ended up inattentive towards finishing the project which she was hired for and thus I am unable to recommend her.
One of the winery owners was/is (??? can't remember) a manager for the Doobie Brothers. I am not all that familiar with their music but I guess it might be a big deal if you are a fan. Some of their gold and platinum records decorate the tasting room. The wines are okay I can't really say as this was our final stop on a 4 day trip and my palette was a bit shot. I do think it is worth a visit though. An interesting fact about this place is the ampitheater they have up on a hill behind the winery where they host a charity music festival one of the first weekends in October. See the website for details.
A small boutique winery with a tasting room in the town of Glen Ellen, their wines repeatedly win awards. The tasting room is crisp and inviting. There also is a great greasy spoon breakfast place next door.
