Huntington Tire & Auto Center, Inc
If you are a woman, you like friendly, clean, honest auto service. And this place fits the bill! They explain what is going on, they offer transportation to work, and they don't charge outrageous prices. They also listen to your problem and appreciate the bind you are in without a car. I think they are great!
Alitalia Pizzeria
This is by far the best pizza we have ever tasted! And we try it everywhere! Ray is so cool too, he remembers us as do the delivery boys. Everyone is very friendly and quick to deliver. The toppings are always fresh, including chunks of garlic. We ask frequently for the "gourmet" chicken pizza so we sometimes have artichoke hearts, red onion, basil, or other interesting vegies. He is creative and the toppings quite generous.
PROS: tasty, hot, cheesy with interesting toppings, aims to surprise and delight
CONS: NONE!
Babita Restaurant
Chef and owner Roberto Berrelleza is proud of his creative, artistic menu and rightly so. He comes out frequently to check on his guests, who enjoy highly personal interaction with this funny, charming man. He told us of several chefs from famous LA eateries who came to try his unique flvors and were quite satisfied. We can see why! We tried a saucy broiled swordfish, and 2 flavors of dense, melt-in-your-mouth flan, so far removed from the usual pale restaurant rendition of this classic that we felt shame for the others! The decor is elegant and tasteful and Roberto makes you feel quite at home. Do try this!
PROS: authentic, unique, delicious flavors, interesting host, good beer list
CONS: Park on the street
Amvets Thrift Stores
There are a lot of clothes and other items here but they are nicely presented and organized by color, I wish my closet was this neat! It is easy to browse. The shop smells nice too for having so many used clothes hanging there. There are mens and childrens clothing, easy to look through as it is sorted by size and all of it hung on hangers. The jean and khaki collection for women is phenomenal. All of it is reasonably proced and there are sales each week discounting a certain color of price tag.
PROS: Excellent selection, sometimes clothes even have original tags and have never been worn. I beleive they tqke ATM cards.
CONS: OK, there are some duds but very few and far between. It is easy to take home 10 to 13 pieces that you love!
Style On Green
The clothes here are stylish and in excellent condition! They are further discounted depending on how long they have been there, clearly printed on the tag so you can risk it and return when they are even cheaper. The shop is organized and easy to browse. There is a communal but roomy dressing room with lots of mirrors. There are designer clothes, casual clothes, shoes, jeans, even fun and funky jewelry. They take ATM cards too making it very easy and fun shopping.
PROS: Good selection, excellent sales several times a year, beautiful clothing. They always are open it seems. They have been here for years and years but are fresh and stylish in their approach.
CONS: Communal dressing room, kinda embarrassing but is private. Womans only, no childrens or mens clothing.
Eddie Williams Tennis
Mr. Williams, who is a member of USPTA, USTA, and the SCTA, teaches tennis in a relaxed, low key manner and has a tennis league for outstanding young school team players during the off season. He teaches frequently at Farnsworth Park, located on N. LAke Ave close to the mountains in a tranquil setting.
Family Associated Med Group Inc
Dr. John Koumas and Patricia McDonough, PAC offer friendly, personalized family healthcare in a comfortable medical office that is a classic. Taking over for his father, Dr. John (as his patients call him) has kept the same high standards and the same warm personal approach that made this long-standing practice so popular.
Adams Woodwind
Greg teaches all ages in a relaxed yet professional atmosphere, clarinet, flute, and saxophone, in a comfortable studio near the top of Lake Ave. Clearly motivated by his love of music, Greg is approachable and interesting, and my kids do not complain about attending class! He also will repair instruments as needed, and offer advice on purchasing.
PROS: Comfortable, affordable, personalized lessons
CONS: It may seem far but takes only 20 minutes from our home in Monrovia and is definitely worth the drive. (is that a con?)
Horizon Honda
These guys are great! They know their Hinda inside and out, from any year, even an old 1993 like I had, they helped keep it running! They will let you come in the same day and their charges are reasonable! Look to them as a good alternative to the dealership, as they get the same parts and give the same expertise at a fraction of the cost. I like them also because they are located right next to a theatre so if you have to wait you can see a movie, or shop at Toys R Us or Walmart. They have fixed my old radiator, tuned up my new Odyssey, all at costs well below other shops or the dealer.
Knot a Problem
Kim Proctor is an awesome masseuse! She is strong but not aggressive. She uses a variety of techniques, including hot rocks, aromatherapy and accupressure. I am Physical Therapist and I can tell she knows how to treat a sore and knotted muscle, with authority yet also with respect. She has her office within the Monrovia YMCA so conact them to pay and then call her to schedule. Even if you are not a memeber, it is reasonable and you will definitely get your money's worth. And she is nice, not overly talkative but interesting and friendly.
