Borders is a fun store to browse through. You can bring in or buy some coffee or tea and drink it while you listen to music, look at books, or browse random on-sale oddities. They can have insanely overpriced items (Like a Shins CD for about $20), but at the same time have a new release on sale (U2's How To Dismantle for about $12). If you have time, take a look at Borders.
Amoeba music has an excellent selection of new and used CDs, DVDs, and Vinyl. Of course, you should always purchase used. The staff is very friendly and helps you find music that you might not know much about; in fact, you can walk in with a vague description of what you're looking for and walk out with a well-priced copy of it! I highly recommend even making a long trip to get here. It is worth it.
Target is a good store; no more, no less. Their staff is usually helpful and can point you in the right direction. At times, their store is well-stocked, though this can differentiate randomly. Buying books or even music there is usually a bad idea: they don't carry much of a selection, though what they carry is well-priced for the most part. Before you go someplace more expensive, you should probably try Target.
Whole foods has one of the best selections of fresh and pre-packaged goods available; unfortunately, it comes at a cost. While the food is absolutely delicious, the staff is attentive and friendly, and the produce is always fresh, the prices for foods not on sale can be devastating. If you have the money and are good at buying on sale, then I wholeheartedly recommend Whole Foods... just make sure you do have a budget.
I have been going to Kind Care Medical Center for over fifteen years. Doctor Daniel Healy is extremely well-qualified and I trust him with my medical information. Unfortunately, Dr. Healy has been so successful that he is now opening up other branches, so he hasn't been at his Duarte branch for a long time. The alternative doctor, while friendly, isn't nearly as helpful as Dr. Healy was. If you need a doctor, I strongly recommend Dr. Healy (who is in Duarte maybe twice a week); however, try to avoid Kind Care whenever he isn't around.
I have been going to Hair Masters for far too long. They have had two different name changes (or management changes, I'm not too sure) but have seemingly retained the same staff. Unfortunately, I think that the staff is rather unqualified. Though the stylists are nice, they can't really cut hair well. The price is very low (about $15 for a cut and shampoo as of early 2005) but you're really not getting a bargain. Try to avoid this salon.
Walgreens has been very timely in appropriating the medicines that I have called in or delivered a perscription for, and this is the most important thing that a pharmacy can provide. Furthermore, the staff is very friendly and always gives good advice on the drugs you are perscribed. Lastly, its a drive-through building, so you never have to leave your car! I really like Walgreens and highly recommend it.
I recieved a very nice watch for Christmas one year but was worried that it wouldn't fit properly. I had never been to a watch repair place so I was worried that my new watch might get destroyed, especially at a small box of a repair shop.
This smallbox of a repair shop, In-Out, was absolutely wonderful. Gerry fixed my watch in less than ten minutes for very little cost, and it still holds up wonderfully after two years! The owner is one of the most courteous retailers I've ever met; I HIGHLY recommend getting your watch fixed or modified here.
I purchased two tires from Pep Boys a few months ago for a decent price. They were installed quickly and seemingly with care. Unfortunately, one of the tires popped while I was on the freeway about a week after Pep Boys installed it. When I went back tothe store to get it replaced, they charged me for the replacement! I don't know if they put it on incorrectly or if the tire was defective, but I think they should have given me a new tire for free.
This newly named FedEx Kinko's store has been very helpful to me in the past. They offer many copy machines (both self-serve and full service), shipping services, high-speed computer access preloaded with many publishing programs, and a service team that can publish pretty much anything. I had invitations printed up there and the staff was exceptionally compassionate and helpful. I wish it wasn't so expensive, but it really beats all the competitors, so I can't complain.
