The Last Record Store is Sonoma County's one and only place to find classic rock, new music, and all the strange obscure things you didn't think you could find any longer. Much better shopping experience since they've moved into their new digs on Mendocino Ave from Fourth St. Reasonable prices and helpful staff.
I absolutely love Osmosis Enzyme Bath! It's a fave of my mum and I for birthday treats as well as Mother's Day or any time we need a relaxing, soothing detox from the inside out. Traditional Japanese enzyme baths are made of organic "shavings" that naturally heat up through enzymatic action. You are covered head to toe in this soft stuff for half an hour, then you rinse. Toxins are naturally drawn out...I suggest booking a massage afterwards...delicious!
I've been going to Loops & Pierces for over ten years and had some of my most challenging and intimate piercings done there. Clean, very professional and relaxing...ask for Neil.
Copperfield's Books is one of Sonoma County's mainstays. They have a wonderful selection of current books and novels, offer some great evenings with world-class authors in store, have a wide selection of high class novelty gifts and a fantastic staff - not to mention their coffee shop for a quick coffee or lunch.
PROS: Huge parking lot, also located on a SR City Bus line.
Distractions never seems to disappoint with it's selection of highly original urban / world clothing, bizarre knick-knacks and memorabilia to sort through. The staff is super friendly as is the owner, Jimmy. A great place to get last minute gifts for everyone in the family (didn't grandma need that day-glo lava lamp?)
CONS: Haight Street is one long parking lot...take the 71, 7, or 6 busses.
I was lucky to grow up with Green Apple Booksw in my neighbourhood. They don't just have the books I'm looking for, but they always seem to have something I didn't realise I was looking for! Wonderful selection of used obscura if you've got the time to look through their enormous selection. They also buy back good condition used books for store credit!
CONS: The parking on Clement St. is horrid ALL the time...use alternatives
No fetish wardrobe would be complete without a piece or two from Madame S Leather. They carry some of the most progressive and unique pieces in the realms of latex, leather and "other". Also watch their site for occasional art shows in the shop...the Michael Manning show (who designed their biz cards) was my favourite.
CONS: Check their hours before going in!
Good Vibes is a must when looking for special intimate play toys and gifts for holidays, birthdays or any occasion. A wonderfully sex-positive establishment they are the premiere place to find EVERYTHING you might need in this department from toys to guides to tools and more. They also offer extremely informative classes by leading bay area professionals and educators in their fields. Simply a must!
CONS: Valencia St. parking
Great place to order your food in advance and pick up! Great soups and noodle dishes, too. Or drop by sometime for an early dinner on your way out and about in the Mission District. A Mission District staple!
CONS: Valencia Street Parking...walk or take a taxi, your bike, or the bus
They've done some amazing things with shoes I wasn't willing to trash yet, but really should have...until I took them to Sunset Shoe Repair and was astonished to find that my work/dance/play boots had been restored to near original condition. Great Inner Sunset location near 9th Avenue. Be certain to check with them about their lunch time closing times and days closed before heading over to drop off or pick up. Reasonable prices, too.
