Capital Area Pediatrics Watson Salsbury Pediatrics
I have been using this practice for over 10 years, since my son's birth. We have mainly used the Fallschurc office, but have been to the Herndon office, on occasion for Saturday emergencies. I can see we have see almost every doctor and nurse practitioner in the practice, in Falls Church, and have liked them all. We really don't have a preference about whom we see. The reception staff is very stable, awesome and kind. The folks have always been able to fit us into their schedule if we had an urgent matter. My son, who is older enough to know, now, also likes them. They all make him feel comfortable about his trips to the doctors' office.
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
The National Holocaust Museum does a great job of presenting historical facts about the holocaust in a moving manner. The exhibits are excellent and detailed. Sometimes it is hard to get a ticket to get into it. While it is free, you do need a ticket. You will need to get there early in the morning or go in the "off season" (November - March). Definitely worth your time if you are visiting DC. It is geared toward older school age children and adults.
Capital Childrens Museum
The Capital Children's Museum, which is located near Union Station in Washington, DC is a great place to take toddlers and school age children. They have many interactive activities. The bubble room in a huge hit. They also do birthday parties, which are also fantastic. The party room is spacious and all the guests get to enjoy the museum after the party. Great fun for the family.
Arlington Central Library
The Arlington County Central Library is HUGE. They recently renovated their childrens' room and it turned out very well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The best news of all is that they have gone Wi-fi! You can take our laptop and have wireless internet access. It is fantastic. There is also a CyberCenter computer learning lab that offers many great classes each month. The space is wonderful and airy. The quiet study rooms are very quiet!
Gunston Senior Ctr
Barcroft Sports and Fitness Center provides for gymnastics lessons, coaching and competitive teams. I find their best feature to be their childrens' birthday parties. You get one hours of time of the floor and pits with an instructor and then use of their party space. The kids alway have fune. We have had two of my son's parties here. Reserve well in advance as the schedule fills up fast. These parties are ideal for 3-8 year old kids.
Old Town Trolley Tours
Old Town Trolley Tours of Washington provide a great tour of the DC area. They have several stops around the area, so you can get on and off to see various sites. The guides are very interesting and entertaining. We always make sure we include this company on any tours we take with friends or family who are new to the area. They provied a smaller group than some of the larger companies and I think this makes for a more enjoyable experience. Go to Federal Triangle Metro and there is a ticket booth/stop right across from the station.
REI
This REI store, located between Skyline and Bailey's Crossroads, just off Route 7 in Fallschurch, has a great selection of outdoor and sporting gear. The store is huge and I have been amazed to find the great things I have...dehydrated food, burners for back packing, roasting sticks...to name a few. The staff is helpful and the store provides for a pleasant shopping experience and atmosphere.
Revolution Cycles
Revolution Cycles, which is located across from Whole Foods in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington is a great place to shop for bikes. We got a new bike for my son, last spring. We found the staff to be very helpful and had a large range of bikes from which to choose. The store is filled to the brim with any biking accessory you might need. Happy trails to you!
Hammetts Learning World
Hammetts Learning World, located in Springfield Mall, has a fantastic selection of teaching aids that are useful to both teachers and parents. I have found many great items that I have used to enhance my son's learning, especially over summer breaks. The activities are fun and educational and designed to be fun and motivational for the kids.
Animal Welfare
We really loved our experience with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. We visited often, looking for a small dog. During all of our visits we got to know the kind and dedicated staff. We learned a lot from Jane during our home visit and were able to feel confident adopting Griffin, almost 18 months ago. He is a perfect match for us and we have the staff at this shelter to thank for that gift!
