St Vincent De Paul Society
This thrift store is rather small (it used to be much larger) but still manages to have a fairly large and good selection of items for very reasonable prices. Plus the money raised here does go to help families in need, not to actually make a profit, so you can feel good about the money you are spending. They do a pretty good job of sorting the clothing and if you have time to really look around, you can usually walk out with some hidden treasures. It's a great place to shop for those wear once occassion dresses and for material to make halloweek costumes.
Working Class
If you have to wear scrubs for work, this is one of the best places around to shop to buy them. They have a large selection in assorted sizes and price ranges. They always have a sale rack at the front of the store and twice a year they have a huge sale where they offer deep discounts on their clothing. When the sale is going on, they will even order in items that they have run out of and honor the sale prices. They also take returns cheerfully.
Jewel-Osco
This Jewel is large, has a drive thru pharmacy, a quick trip gas station/convenience store and an Osco Drug attached. The customer service is top notch and they frequantly have cooking classes offered. On the down side the prices are a little high and you have to have a preferred card with you in order to get most of the specials and sale prices which can be inconvenient, but their sale prices are worth going there for most of the time.
Kohl's
The Kohls in Crestwood (Not Midlothian) has wonderful sales. It is just amazing what you can find on clearance at this store. The parking lot is large and with two main entrances you really do not have to walk far to a door. The complaint that I have is that they are not as large as some other Kohls locations so their selection is smaller. But the store is clean, staff helpful and the sales prices rock.
Keystone Cafe
Saravans is great affordable food in a casual friendly atmosphere. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and offer alcoholic beverages as well. You can buy the entree or for a small additional price add on soup, salad, drink and dessert. Service is attentive and fast. The roll basket and your cup is never empty for long. The Grecian Chicken, lamb chops and veal parmasean are family favorites. Portions are large, so be prepared to take home leftovers. Parking is limited so be prepared to park in the lot across the street.
Hot Rags
If you are looking for an old classic rock (think Grateful Dead) t-shirt, tie dye clothes, funky fashions, awesome jewelry, purses, shoes, hacky-sacks, etc. this is the store for you. They are a small store, with a huge selection. They are both modern and retro in their inventory, creating a fun shopping experience whether you are taking a trip down memory lane or just now discovering the look and feel of the 60's and 70's. I could spend hours in this store. The staff is friendly and laid back, welcoming browsers and buyers alike.
Fashion Bug
Fashion Bug has all the latest looks in every size. You don't have to be a size 3 to look fashionable in this store. And the sales help here is so helpful and friendly. Infact they are almost too perky!! It is always a pleasant experiance to shop here because you can find something trendy and "in" regardless of your figure flaws. You don't have to go to a specialty (fat) store with "old lady clothes".
Borders Books Music Movies & Cafe
Of all the suburban Borders Books, I think that this one has the best author readings and book signings. They are kind of hard to find as they are slightly set back from the road but they have a huge parking lot and large selections of books. But the real catch for me is the quality of authors that they get in there for books readings and book signings. They have several every month. They are also so friendly, if you are not able to attend the book signing you can call and ask them to have a book signed for you and they will do that and hold it for you.
Bath & Body Works
This is a wonderful store to shop. They are rarely crowded and always friendly. Many Bath & Body Works are located in malls where you have to park and then go in a main entrance and walk and walk, not here. You can park close to the store as it is in a strip mall. They have unadvertised specials all the time and if you sign up at their website they send email coupons to use in the store, usually a free gift with any purchase type deal. If you ever buy something and decide you do not like it, they take it back no questions asked, with or without the receipt, even if you have opened it.
PROS: Convenient Parking
CONS:
Jeri's Rock Shop
At first glance this place seems like a dirty little dump, but don't let it fool you. If you are looking for rocks, gems, and crystals or jewelry making items, this place is a treasure. The prices are extremely reasonable and if you are willing to dig thru the bins you can find excellent material to work with. It's just like being out on a dig!
