Despite being a small shop, Sue's Produce provides the best prices on fruits and vegetables in the city. Both the owenr and his wife both work in the shop and are extremely friendly and helpful. Many times when I have been short a few quarters, they have accepted a verbal I.O.U. in leui of payment. You can always count on Sue's for hte lowest prices in fruit throughout the city. I was astounded while visting Rittenhouse Grocer at the $4.99/lb they wanted for fresh, red grapes. At Sue's they were just as fresh, delicious and $1.99/lb. The workers always double bag my large items without asking! I do not shop anywhere else. I have yet to ever purchaes anything from Sue's that I was less than happy with. The owners are always helpful with letting customers know what the best and most delicious fruits in season are.
PROS: Great prices, great service- can't be beat
Located in the prime of Rittenhouse Square, Devon Seafood is an upscale, very popular resteraunt for dining. Devon offers a lengthy list of wines and many different dishes to accomodate different tastes. The staff is all extremely friendly and the menu offers appetizers that are filling enough for a meal. I would highly recommend the Chipinio- a stewish seafood mix of plump mussells, shrimp, scallops and clams tossed in a light tomato sauce and brimming with flavor. Be careful with the drinks though, their top shelf liquor is overpriced and compounded with the meal prices, it can add up. So while the food is extremely delicious, there are less expensive alternatives for seafood dining in the city without the bulky bill.
PROS: Delicious food
This pizza place offers delivery and eat-in. It is at a great location on 21st street in front of the Please Touch Museum and a great place to grab a bite to eat with your little ones half way through the day, since Please Touch does not offer a cafeteria, and has a few small snack machines placed in its downstairs lobby. Little John's has an amazing Italian hoagie and have shared one of their delicious chicken cheese steaks on more than one occasion. Their salads are like pizza salads- with too much iceberg lettuce and sliced American cheese (not my cup of tea). They have prompt delivery to those in the surrounding areas as well.
PROS: Great Pizza, inexpensive, good service
CONS: Poor salads
Cute, inexpensive pub with stellar bar food- their Turtle Soup is absolutely excellent (and if you've never had it before- I highly recommend you go out on a limb and try it- a stew like soup that you are guarenteed to love) and their Poppers are also amazing. Their food is prepared quickly and always comes out piping hot. I have also enjoyed inexpensive beers here. The bartenders are friendly and although the pub area is small, Bonners has more seating available in the back with a more restaurant like setting. If you enjoy dive bars and are in the mood for cheap drinks and delicious bar food than Bonners is your place.
PROS: Inexpensive, delicious bar snacks
Metropolitian Bakery has the most delicious morning treats. Besides brewing delicious coffee, they also offer daily made, fresh breads, crossaints, muffins, danishes etc. Many times I have taken friends here for breakfast, as well as purchased pastries for early morning meetings and have received a tremendous amount of compliments on not only the freshness, but how incredibly delicious the pastries were. When having family luncheons I have purchased some of their bread and it has proved to be the freshest bread from any bakery I have tried here in the city. I would highly recommend anyone with visiting guests to take them to this store for some delectable treats.
Natural Goodness is very close to my apartment so I frequently visit here. They have perodic sales, so some of hte slightly overpriced organic and natural food brands can be purchased for great buys. The husband and wife who own the store are quite helpful if you are seeking supplements and the little cafe inside is delightful and has numerous delicious dishes prepared daily. I especially love going here in the winter for hot soups on a cold day. They always have at least two soups, and many vegeterian dishes.
PROS: Delicious hot food, vegan and vegetarian choices
I regularly got my nails done from this salon, as well as received an upper lip waxing bimonthly. The staff is friendly and time accomodating. I have never experienced a long wait at this salon. I was also impressed that when recieving my full-set of acrylic nails, the staff took time on apply each nail, instead of rushing through to get to the next customer- something I have experienced alot of in Center City Nail salons. Plus my full set lasted without any breaks until I needed a refill again, another pro since I have very small nail beds and false nails do not usually stay on for two weeks until I am due in again. They were gentle with the waxing as well and are open until 7PM so I have time to go after work.
PROS: Great hours, Great staff, inexpensive and good quality
Not only the is ambiance to die for in this little, quaint BYOB, but the prices are so incredibly low you can afford to dine out once a week. My boyfriend and I have visited this on several occasions and even enjoyed take-out from here. They have offered us complimentary Sambuca shots after dinner two times we have been there and the wait staff is incredibly friendly. They offer seafood and Italian cuisine and allow you to bring liquor and/or wine. They can accomodate large parties as well and I have never had to wait for a table. I absolutely love Fellini and believe it to be one of the best places to dine in the city for the budget foodie.
PROS: Inexpensive, fabulous food in an amazing atmosphere
I absolutely love the trendy/classy style that this little botique offers. I enjoy purchasing from small stores such as this. They are a small store on Walnut street, next to the Irish pub, but their selection is quality and I have purchased a few dresses there that have been fabulous cocktail and dinner party numbers. I am always complimented on my clothing purchases from this store and the sales associates are always extremely helpful and friendly. Although, they are not an extremely large store, their unique selection of clothing and accessories never fail to disappoint me.
PROS: Very stylish and trendy
I attended a writing seminar sponsored by Drexel University in which one of their business professors taught. I was pleasantly surprised at all the class went over in its 9AM-4PM time slot. Although not paid for personally, I did believe the cost to be slightly high, but in retrospect what I took away from the course made it worth it. It was a wonderful experience and would highly recommend anyone interested in individual, non-credit seminars to look into what Drexel has to offer on a wide array of topics and concentrations.
PROS: Seminars with thorough and detailed, comprehensive and organized instructor
