We've found ourselves at Clairemont Equipment Rental many times... we've rented a jackhammer several times and also a rototiller. The people are really friendly and helpful. They totally make sure that you know how to use the equipment before you leave. The prices are not cheap, but it's definitely cheaper than buying the equipment and only using it once. I'm sure they have longer rentals, but we've only rented equipment for a day.
The Wild Animal Park is a real trip! It is completely different than our zoo...it's more like seeing the animals in their own environment. At the zoo (which is also wonderful), you walk from exhibit to exhibit... and while that is really nice, at the animal park you feel like you have been dropped right into their home (not the other way around). You'll love the experience...it's very big and you'll feel like you didn't see the half of it. I would recommend taking the train so you can see more. Also, it's located out east.... so it can get hot and there are lots of little hills to walk...so depending on the time of the year, you need to be prepared.
The Rancho Bernardo Inn is a really nice resort and would recommend it highly. It feels like you are away from it all when you are there. I haven't spent the night here because it is local for me, however I have used several of their ammenities. They've got a great spa with decent prices... it's very nice and relaxing. But what you really have to splurge and try is their Sunday Brunch... it is EXCELLENT! It is a little costly, but you will not need to eat the rest of the day! The food was excellent and so was the service. I highly recommend this brunch if you are celebrating a special day... it was very nice.
I choose this place to replace my car's front window because they were the lowest cost. I called around to many competitors and they were definitely cheaper. They came to my house to put the window in and they did it super fast.. however.... the next day when I drove my car I could hear wind coming in through the replaced window... it was a real pain the butt to get it fixed again. They were great about rescheduling and coming back to my house to put another window on (or fix the one they put one).... They handled it well, but it was a bit of a hassle for me. I wish it was done right the first time.
This place is definitely worth the trip down to PB. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time (not only to park, but) to browse because in order to make it worth your time, you really have to go through racks... you can come across some great finds in this store... It's one step above a thrift shop. They've got a lot of brand name clothing, but more so than that they've got a lot of stylish used clothing... I've found some great peasant skirts and tops here.... at really good prices. It's a pretty big place... worth while to visit!
This is probably the best cleaners I've gone too... their prices not bad at all, they've always done a good job cleaning, and they get the clothing back to you in a timely manner. The employees have always been friendly and I would highly recoommend this place... they're dependable for sure.
This place is a barebones Chinese Kickboxing studio... two rooms, four walls each, a bathroom and padded floors. Be prepared to work hard and push yourself. The owner (instructor) is intense. I was a true beginner when I started here and was amazed at the progress I made. You usually spar with the owner, but when you are ready to test to the next level you are paired up against other people. This was a great experience and would recommend this place. You pay a monthly fee and for that you get one private lesson and one group lesson per week. You have to pay additional money to test, which I really didn't care too much about, but ended up testing anyway...
You can go into this shop and buy a board off the rack, however I would recommend this place if you are looking to have a board custom made for you. The owner, Tim Bessell, seems like a nice guy... he has made a couple of boards for me and has done a great job. The price of a custom board is 'through the roof' but if you're going to get a custom board made just for you, you kind of expect it. Would recommend this board shop.
This is your run-of-the-mill surf shop... nothing really special about it. It seems equally geared to tourists as it does to surfers... it's on Mission Blvd... so you can imagine the crowd that this area attracts. They have their own signature brand of clothing that is pretty cool... This place is nothing spectacular, but not bad... it's been there for a while....so that's always good. They carry boards, but I've seen better quality boards at other places...
Surprisingly, not a great selection of surfboards...but they've got good deals on t-shirts. They definitely have more clothing than they do surfboards and I've bought several tshirts there that I love... It used to be a tiny store, but they've expanded and have a pretty good selection.
