My family has been taking our cars to Raines Automotive for more than thirty years. The owner and operator, Mr. Raines, has never confronted a broken car that he couldn't fix (except transmission, he doesn't do transmissions). The turnaround is usually fast - one to two days for most repairs, depending on how busy the garage is. The garage is good about staying in touch with you to keep you updated about what's going on with your car, and they're glad to answer your questions. Mr. Raines can also recommend trustworthy services for other car needs, such as air condition repair and paint services. Call first to check about bringing your car down.
The Book Nook doesn't carry just books, but records, movies, and comics as well. There's no telling what you might find in the shop that will strike your fancy. Carrying mostly used books, the shop will also buy your gently used books (and sometimes movies) if the market is right. There's a lot of explore here, so make sure you have plenty of time to browse around. The staff is friendly and helpful, and can usually locate something specific if you know what you want. Parking is generous, but traffic on North Druid Hills can be hairy during rush hour.
Cornerstone Christian Bookstore is an independent bookstore, so it doesn't have the overwhelming array of goods that you'd find in a chain store, but it does have personal charm and employees that are eager to help you. There's a wide range of books, music, and Bibles to browse through, and a well-stocked children's section as well. If you're looking for a special gift for someone, they have a large gift section and can help suggest the perfect present. Parking is plentiful and traffic is quiet.
For all the men who miss the old-fashioned barbershop, the Big League Barbers of Snellville are there for you! The shop is open six days a week and has several barbers who can give you a shave and haircut (but not for two bits). The store is set up just like a old-timey barbershop and guys will feel comfortable in the decidedly masculine atmosphere. Parking is plentiful outside, though on weekends the traffic in the shopping center can be daunting. Walk-ins are welcome, but you might want to call ahead just to be on the safe side.
Music and Arts Center truly is a center for all kinds of musical items. They carry a wide variety of sheet music for all kinds of instruments: piano, wind and string instruments, and percussion. The staff is knowledgeable and can help you find what you're looking for, and if it's not in stock or the store doesn't carry it, they're more than willing to place a special order for you. Music teachers get a special discount on all purchases. If you're looking into making a large purchase like a keyboard or expensive guitar, they do offer payment programs. For music instructions, the store offers multiple teachers and can recommend the right teacher for you or your child. Lessons are held throughout the week on a one-on-one basis, and can usually be adapted to fit your schedule.
The Swan Coach House is almost overwhelming in its beauty. I never seem to be able to get over just how lovely it is. The house is available to rent for special events, or, if you're having something smaller, the restaurant hosts parties and luncheons. I like it for girls' parties: bridal luncheons, showers, or just a get-together. It is formal, so put away your flip-flops and capris, because you'll need to look a bit fancier than that. For an unforgettable party done in real style, you should certainly consider the Swan Coach House.
Woodlee's is owned and operated by the same lovely woman, and she is on the premises every day monitoring and keeping tabs on her school and daycare. The staff are carefully screened to hire only those who genuinely love children and love working with them. Day care is offered from early morning (around 6 or 6:30AM) until 7PM. They also have a stringent identification policy requiring all visitors to identify themselves at the front desk and be signed in. Children must be signed in and out by their parent or guardian, and no child is allowed to leave if their pickup cannot provide adequate identification and proof that he or she is allowed to pick up. There is always someone on duty in the front office and getting in contact is never a problem - no automated menus or answering machines! Woodlee's really makes your child the first priority and takes wonderful care of them.
Veni Vidi Vici is a perfect hipster's hangout - the atmosphere is friendly and low-key with strategic lighting and faultless decor. The wait staff slip through the dining area like shadows, as though their only job is to appear almost effortlessly, anticipate and take care of your needs, and disappear. The menu offers a wide range of choices for your meal - I recommend the artichoke hearts as an appetizer or side dish. Do NOT miss the bread! Parking is plentiful, and traffic is rarely a problem in the evening hours. Reservations are accepted and I recommend it, just to be sure.
The High Museum has been an integral part of Atlanta for years, but too many people write it off as for the artsy among us. Newsflash: it's so much more than a museum! The High hosts several world-class exhibits throughout the year, and has a regular Friday Jazz on the first Friday of every month. There are art workshops for kids, teens, and adults during the month (those require registration) and many other activities that you can get involved in. It's not just about looking at a painting on the wall: it's about getting involved with art and enjoying it. Recorded commentaries are available with most exhibits so you can hear the experts' take on a work while you make your opinion about it. Don't miss the children's part of the museum in the basement - sized just for little ones! Parking is plentiful in the deck immediately behind the building or you can park across the street.
This is the original Mellow Mushroom, and despite some renovation a couple of years ago, the original flavor and atmosphere of the restaurant remains. The staff is friendly and efficient, and in my experience have never messed an order up. I recommend ordering a pan crust with bacon and mushrooms - delicious! Service is quick, considering they're making your pizza from scratch, and the food is absolutely luscious. Parking is plentiful, though traffic can be annoying around rush hour.
