Comcast offers several packages at affordable prices for cable, as well as high-speed internet and phone connection. It is seriously a bad idea to hook up to satellite TV when you have Comcast around. Although I'm not sure exactly what digital cable is, it's way better than the picture going out all the time, the expense of setting up and keep a dish, and always being on eastern standard time. The comcast employees are nice to, efficicent, and usually show up when they say they will.
PROS: good cable, good prices
Honestly, Jenny Craig can be a good plan. There are locations everywhere, you can work one on one with someone, they are attentive, supportive, and the food to purchase is decent. However, it is ridiculously expensive. At something around 400 dollars a month, not counting sign up fees and extras like vitamins, is it really worth it? At some point you are going to have to learn to eat healthy yourself. Besides, all Jenny Craig is about is lowering your caloric intake. Think thin, but think twice about JC.
PROS: good food, takes the pounds off in a healthy way
CONS: a fit figure ain't worth your kid's college money
Although there aren't many choices for community college around Portland, this one is the best anywhere. It's large, has every kind of facility you need, and the professor's curriculum is very good. Besides working for your associate's degree, PCC offers many non-credit courses just for fun! So whether you want to study art, minor in psychology, learn to ride a motorcycle or become a wine expert, you can find it at PCC!
PROS: convenient location, shuttle between there and the university
CONS: you won't want to leave
Portland's best home for the performing arts, Keller Auditorium hosts venues like ballet, broadway, and sometimes big names. In the past they have had David Copperfield, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and this September, the Lion King Broadway Musical will be arriving! Never a disappointment! Always check for discounted tickets; sometimes they have special deals for students and such.
PROS: great venues, decent prices, every seat is good
I don't know if the school is any good or not, but they open the swimming pools to the public in the summer! It's only a few dollars to get in, with two large pools, one with a giant winding waterslide. Towards the end of the summer, they have something called dive-in movies, where they show a family fun flick on a big screen, while you swim, and just enjoy! The best part is the pools are outdoors.
PROS: have great fun for small price
this childcare center is actually one of the nicest acredited facilities in town. The late founder began it in her home, and it now has expanded to the Montissori school as well. Instead of being a center full of baby-sitters, it is an actual learning facility with a Kindergarten also. Unfortunately, you had better be well-off to afford tuition; it gets kind of high, especially if you have more than one child enrolled. Ages are 12 months to 5 years, healthy food served, and comprehensive curriculum.
PROS: Enriches children's young lives while in daycare
CONS: some employee turnover, high tuition rates
This park seems to kind of have always been hum-drum. Sure, there are good rides, some really exciting ones, but they're rickety, the tickets are overpriced, and the place doesn't really do well except in the summer. You are kind of taking life into your own hands by consuming the food and riding the rides. But I guess we take what we can get.
PROS: Some scary cool rides, good view of fireworks on the 4th
CONS: overpriced, a litte rundown
this park is awesome! A big beautiful lake,
onsite grills, cheap pedal boat and canoes rentals, it's really on the holidays and summer weekends! You can fish, swim, play sports, and ride bikes. It is out in Gresham, and not easily accessible by bus, but there is a free shuttle during the summer weekends and holidays. So come out and play!
PROS: tons of stuff to do, including rental for weddings/parties
CONS: you have to pay for parking, but it's cheap
The Classical Chinese Garden is something like something ethreal in that you step off of the noisy streets and into this classic work of nature and art, where you can find peace just in its beauty. Have tea at the little shop, or throw a beautiful wedding. The garden takes up an entire square block in an entirely unlikely section of town.
PROS: very beautiful
Whether you want to be educated on the history of Old Town, or spooked out of your goard, Shanghai Tunnel tours is the trip for you! Depending on which tour you choose, an expert on the restoration and history of the underground will guide you in exploring the history behind the kidnapping of unsuspecting people over one hundred years ago to work as slaves on merchant ships. You'll also get to hear "true" tales of ghost sightings beneath the streets of Portland! Excellent for the Halloween season!
PROS: Definitely different, and a little creepy
CONS: must make a reservation and pay before you go.
