Life Touch
Life Touch Photography does all the photography work for my children's school, and they do a decent job. The last round of school photos that they shot turned out pretty poorly, though. Both of my kids had odd expressions on their faces, and neither was happy with the way their photos turned out. They told me the lady who was doing the photography that day was in a big hurry and was rude, and would not give anyone ample warning that she was about to take the picture. I think that's pretty crappy, considering it's a school photo and what parent is really going to send the pics back? The annual school photo is one of those school-age milestones,so I would hope that Life Touch makes sure that their photographers are kind and patient.
Shipley DO-Nuts
Shipley Do Nut Shops have the best donuts, bar none. The plain glazed donuts are the best because they're always hot and covered in a sugar glaze. These donuts put all the competition to shame. Their apple fritters and their bear claws are always so soft and yummy too, and they have pretty good kolaches. However, nothing beats those hot glazed donuts.
Cake Craft Shoppe
If you love confectionary arts, you will LOVE the Cake Craft Shoppe! Staffed by talented and knowledgable people, and owned by a very nice lady, this is the place to go for anything you need to do cakes, confections, and sugar art. If you aren't lucky enough to live within a reasonable driving distance, check out their website. The Cake Craft Shoppe also offers classes taught by some of the most well-known and respected professionals in cake decorating and sugar arts. If you need it, they've got it.
Kolache Factory
I stopped by the Kolache Factory on a whim, based on how many rave reviews I've heard from others. The pastries and kolaches we got were good, but not drive-15-minutes-out-of-my-way good. There are much better kolache shops closer to my house, so I haven't been back to this bakery.
Stewarts Tire & Auto Ctr
I took my car to Stewart's Tire and Auto Center to renew my inspection sticker, and ended up getting new front tires and a front end alignment because they matched a competitor's coupon price on the alignment. My car's alignment was really off, and they could not correctly align it on the first, second, or third try. I literally spent hours and hours in this shop. They finally said they were going to call someone out to have their alignment machine inspected, but by that time, I was not willing to come back and suffer in their waiting room ever again. I've got to give them a "A" for effort and for patience, but I would not go back to this shop again. I had the car aligned elsewhere.
Sams Floral
Sam's Floral consistently has beautiful, healthy flowers and greenery at exceptional prices. You can buy your own cut flowers to arrange yourself or you can buy pre-made or custom-ordered arrangements. I love buying Stargazer lillies in particular from Sam's Floral because you buy them while they are still buds, and over the course of the next few days, they open into huge, fragrant blooms that last and last. You can place very large, bulk orders from Sam's Floral too, if you wish to do your own floral work for a wedding or other special occasion. I've never been disappointed with Sam's Floral!
Scissor Hands
My sons got tired of the barbers not giving them enough "style" in their haircuts, so I started bringing them to Scissorhands. They have not been busy when we've gone, and the haircuts for boys are inexpensive. The stylists are young women who listen to what they want and give them great haircuts, so everyone leaves happy. Great value!
TNT Hair & Spa
I had my hair cut and styled at TNT satisfactorily, but I wasn't overly impressed with the service when compared to the prices. However, when my young daughter made the decision to cut her long hair, I brought her to TNT for the full salon treatment. Her haircut was cute and she really enjoyed the experience. The salon is nice and it's comfortable, but I found another salon that I really like, so we won't be going back to TNT.
Regal Nails
I take my teenage daughter to Regal Nails for their facial waxing services. Eyebrow waxing costs only $5, and there's usually no wait to get in. The technicians aren't friendly but they get the job done, and they get it done fast. If you're in the neighborhood and need your eyebrows done quickly, this is a good place to go, but if you're looking for something more, like warm, friendly service or a spa-like atmosphere, you'll have to go somewhere else.
Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities provides all kinds of counseling to individuals and families as well as adoption services. I worked with Catholic Charities some years ago while fostering a young pregnant girl, and the counselors are fantastic. Their fees are based on a sliding scale, so if you or your family are in need of some help and assistance to get through some problems or a difficult situation, but you don't think you can afford professional counseling, please give Catholic Charities a call.
