This travel agency has horrible customer service and won't even return calls once there is an issue or problem with a booking! I suggest staying away from this company -- they booked a hotel/air package for me but didn't reserve the right type of hotel room for me even though I'd confirmed it with the agent before I left on my trip. When I returned from my trip and asked them to reimburse me for the room difference that I paid out-of-pocket, they wouldn't return my calls. I suggest you take your business somewhere else, in case the same thing happens to you!
CONS: Unwilling to admit mistakes and address customer complaints
Marie helped us set up our home network (internet DSL, wifi, printing) and did a nice job except for some technical problems we had with Verizon. She was available to return a few times within a week to try to fix problems that we experienced, and was also available by phone to answer questions. She left instructions for how to set up wireless printing over the network, in case we needed them.
CONS: Only available after her FT job, so on evenings and weekends
Eric has done two photo shoots for me so far and is wonderful to work with. His images of architecture and interiors have appeared in the LA Times Magazine and other publications. He is very professional and very detail-oriented. I would highly recommend him! (He's also great at shooting products and has shot people for me with his camera too, but his specialty is architectural photography.)
This is a really wonderful store that provides support (classes, workshops, mommy & me) for new moms. If you are having trouble with breastfeeding, you can even call one of their lactation consultants on staff for free advice. They also sell wonderful maternity and breastfeeding clothes, plus baby gear and baby clothes.
I've used Pinata Party Rentals for a few events now and have not been disappointed. They are on-time with both pick-up and delivery, and have really great prices. They rent the usual party supplies, tables, silverware, linens, etc. as well as umbrellas, tent canopies, and even fun, good-quality bouncers for the kids.
This is a nice nail salon just south of Wilshire Boulevard where I have gotten a few good manicures and pedicures. You can just walk-in, no need for an appointment. They offer a full range of services. My stylist was very accommodating when I told her I only had 30 minutes for my pedicure, and she finished up (without cutting any corners) on time.
Colby is a creative and talented architect who specializes in modern homes and buildings. He worked at Frank Gehry's firm and then with Eva Sobesky at EIS Design, and then started his own practice. Colby worked under Eva Sobesky on my home remodel and I was very impressed with his work and talent.
The haircuts here aren't cheap, but they do a great job and the salon is clean and airy and hip. There is cool modern furniture, great products, and a nice vibe. The salon is next door to their day spa where you can get facials and massages as well. They're busy, but not so busy that it's hard to get an appointment, the way it can be with other salons.
This Asian bakery makes really delicious cakes... the kind that aren't so sickeningly sweet! They also have a variety of birthday decorations and styles to choose from, especially good for kids. You can choose from different fruit fillings as well -- really fresh and tasty. They can also make very large sheet cakes if you need to feed a large party.
This bakery is located in a small minimall in downtown Brentwood off of Sunset Boulevard, and they are well known for their croissants (the regular kind, and the kind with ham and cheese, chocolate, etc.). They also make delicious cakes. I heard about this place from a friend who just raved about them.
