Greeley Recreation Ctr
The cities recreation department is fine if your child has no problems. My son has a disability and trying to work with this department to get accomodations for him has been a nightmare. Most surrounding communities rec departments have recreational therapists to help make activities accessable for all members of the community. However, this department for whatever reason does not have such a person making it almost impossible to get children with any disability enrolled in community events and services.
When calling the front receptionist it often takes a long time to get the correct answer to questions, simple questions like what time are you open, the cost to access facilities, etc. They seem very disorganized during registration processes for events.
I drive to other cities and pay MORE to get my child enrolled into programs.
PROS: Nice facilities if you can access them
CONS: No adaptive programs, no recreational therapist
Work Out West Health & Recreation Center
This place has it all, to say the least. The best part for me is the ability to have my children in daycare while I work out. This is what keeps so many mom's from working out, is their children tagging along with them. The cost of membership was a bit high compared to other clubs and the use of the pool and courts was extra. The main membership got you access to the workout facilities, gym, and hot tub/sauna. The staff was friendly but I was not overly impressed with their personal trainers. If you were not blonde and cute they did not want anything to do with you.
PROS: Lots of activities, child care
CONS: limited access with memberships, rude trainers
Jesus Roderate Cultural Ctr
If you are a parent that wants to ensure your children are safe at community event this is NOT the place to do it. I took my children to an event here and found that most of the children are thugs and run around with foul language coming out of their mouths. I can understand now that this is NOT a community center but a hang out for children who have parents who do not supervise them, free daycare if you will. This is a great place for the future thugs of America.
PROS: None
CONS: unsafe environment
Centennial Village Museum
This little village is great when its actually open. They are closed most of the year leaving the village open for use during warm months only. This is very upsetting because as a homeshooling parent it would be nice to actually use the cities museums as a learning tool. The facilities are great taking you back in time to what it was like to live in this area when it was settled. Historical artifacts and other cool buildings from the past are set along a trail. Halloween is fun there and the kids enjoy it every year. Would recommend for a summer or warm weather treat.
PROS: Great set up
CONS: Not open more
My Friends & Me Learning Centers Incorporated
This daycare really made me upset. I have a child with special needs and when I intially called them I did NOT let them know my son had issues. Under ADA they are to make resonable accomodations for him and can't deny him entrance to their program based on stereotypical views of children with a disability.
They were more than happy to have us come out and visit the facility. When we got there they had openings and gave me price lists extra. I thought the facility looked safe and would work out for some after school care.
I then called back and asked to speak to the director about my son's issues. This is when the problems started. I never got a call back, left several messages. Then I finally got a hold of a human and was told at that point that the director was not available and when I left my name and number she told me to "hold on". Then I was told that they no longer had any openings and that they would put my son on a list.
My friend called them the next day and asked if they had an opening for the same aged child for basic afterschool care. They indicated to her that they did have such an opening and gave her an appointment. Thinking that maybe I was just over reacting my friends husband called (about an hour after) and asked if they had any openings for a child with special needs in that same age group for after school care and they told him no, they would place the child on a wait list.
Discrimination against children with special needs.
PROS: None
CONS: Discriminate against children with special needs
Keith E. Peterson, MD
My son needed to have tubes put into his ears after repeated infections. We went to the office and had to wait, a very long time. When we finally went back to see the doctor he seemed rushed and recommended a hearing assesment be done. Their old fashion testing revealed a partial hearing loss in one of my son's ears. Tubes were recommended and were placed. After the surgery the doc was short and kind of rude. When we went to the follow up visit he seemed nice and took the time to answer any questions I had at that point.
Worried about my son's partial hearing loss his regular ped doc sent him to our local audiology clinic at the university. The ped doc was not in agreement with the ENT doc that my son had any hearing loss. The testing at the university showed that indeed my son DID NOT have any hearing loss. After other testing it was found that my son's lack of response was due to a nuerological problem (Autism).
PROS: Good docs in their field
CONS: short and rude at times, misdiagnosed child
North Colorado Family Medicine
Finding a doctor that understands a child with a disability or health problem is hard to do. Finding one that will admit their limitations and seek out referrals for tough situations is even harder. My son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 5. This was after fighting with his previous doctors about there being something "wrong". I decided to change doctors and found this facility. The receptionist fitted my son with a doctor who she felt would be great for my son.
The doctor has been a godsend and has been the key to my son's great therapy. He is very knowledgable about the specialists in the area and has no problem doing referrals to these individuals. They always get us in and out of the waiting room quickly and the doctor is always happy to see us.
Great facility, great staff, and great doctors.
PROS: Great docs, knowledge of surrounding resources
CONS: None
Hillside Car Wash & Emisseons
I have used both their car wash facilities and their emissions service. The emissions facility is overall clean, but the person working at the time I went through was rude. They just barked commands and treated me, a woman, like I had no clue what to do. This really put me off as it is not my choice to pay for these ridiculous emissions tests year after year.
Their car wash facility is ok. I have found others in town that charge less and do a much better job.
PROS: None, just average
CONS: questionable treatment of women
Bear's Carwash & Mini Storage
This car wash is the best in town. They prerinse your car before it goes into their wash facilities. They will also offer many different packages for a resonable cost. I always let them do the full wash detail, which includes them vaccumming out my car (my most hated activity). For those of you who MUST watch your car at all times to ensure its safety they have windows on the inside that allow the customers to watch the entire process. They hand dry your vehicle at the very end.
The best part is their guarantee that if your car gets rained on or a bird drops a present on your car you can get the car recleaned for free (too bad this does not apply to the interior of the car against children making messes).
For the price of a gas station car wash you get the full package and personal service.
PROS: Rain/Bird Guarantee, Price, Personal Service
CONS: None
Adorable Dog Grooming
Took my loveable little dog to this groomer. They squeezed me in on short notice. My dog came back looking very nice and was groomed according to her breed. The cleaning and cut lasted for a significant amount of time. My dog was also happy when I came to pick her up. The cost was resonable compared to other shops I have taken my pooch to. Recommended.
PROS: Professional, able to work in to schedule, good prices
CONS: None
