Evolution Surf
I have one board which i cherish more than any other and it is my 6'9" fun evo surfboard. I have had several shaped for me, but this one is great. I bought it at Surfride for a pretty penny, but it rides so smooth, and it looks very nice up on my wall. i dont keep it is my quiver, instead i have a wall rack for decoration. Very sweet board......
PROS: nice nice boards
CONS: really pricey (but worth it)
South Coast Wahines PB
I got my first long board here. The prices are pretty good for a decent board. You are not going to get a performance board off the rack here, but if you want a beginner board, this is the place to go. The prices are really good, and the staff seem to know what they are talking about. they will walk you through what you want to look for and pretty much help you make the decision for you.
PROS: good boards at a decent price
CONS: not really a performance board shop
Mitch's Surf Shop
Although the boards are a little pricey, they are awesome. They are shaped by local shapers, and are just what the average rider needs. Unless you know exactly what you want, this place caters to you. The staff is super knowledgeable and will set you up with a sweet ride just for you. They are not there to sell you anything, just there to help you make the right decision. I have bought several boards there and have never been disappointed. I love this place (and the one in Encinitas) I think the one in encinitas is a little better with a little more room and slightly nice staff....
PROS: great boards and knowledgeable staff
CONS: a little small
Wavelines
Although this place is not big, it has what you need. Surf wax by the door. Some decent boards (dont think i would buy one here though, probably buy one at surfride or mitchs) but their wetsuit and clothing deals are great. Every year they send me a postcard with 20% savings, which is killer. You go there and stock up on killer threads. They always seem to have great threads for a decent price (esp if you throw in the discount) You probably have to shop there one to get on the mailing list though.
PROS: great selection and good discounts
CONS: not that big
Pac Sun
This place is great if you are looking for a cool tshirt or something on the cheaper spectrum of surfing clothes. Their prices are pretty good for the novelty shirts that can be pretty good quality. Their selection of good brands is lacking and the atmosphere is more like an abercrombie and fitch rather than a surf shop. Would much rather patronize one of the local surf shops (like surfride, mitches ) than this place
PROS: cheap and good selection and deals on t shirts
CONS: pretty run of the mill shop
Reebok Outlet
Normally i love factory direct stores, where you can get at least 30% off of the normal price of the items. instead this place seems like it doesnt give you much of a discount at all. I was looking for a kind of popular shoe (g-unit G50s) not only did they not have my size, it was equally as expensive as it would have been shopping at your local footlocker. You mean i drove all the way there for nothing? No in the same outlet store there is a polo store, a puma store and a banana republic store which are all great.
PROS: its there
CONS: not a cheap outlet store, not the greatest selection
F Street Adult Video & Gifts
There are plenty of adult stores to go to and this one isnt too bad. I am not the kind who goes to adult stores for the videos. I go there for prank gifts, and for other items that are used for bachelor parties etc. This place has plenty of that good stuff..... enough to make anyone blush. There are some places that are cheaper, but this place is convenient, has a good selection, and you dont really feel creeped out here.
PROS: good selection of novelty items
CONS: a little more pricey than the discount stores,
San Diego Human Society
I know everybody wants a purebread dog or cat, but cmon. There are thousands of animals put down every day because noone wants them. The Humane Society does everything in its power to stop this from happening. We have gotten two dogs from here (one from the helen woodward up in Del Mar which is great) and they are part of our family. The kennels are kept clean and the dogs/cats seemed well cared for (despite how badly they were treated before they were submitted to them). Next pet i am definately going here. Adoption fees are high, but then again, it does pay for the animal and all the food and love and help it was given.... well worth it
PROS: great humane place to get a pet
CONS: a little more pricey than you would expect, but worth it
California Body Day Spa
Not that I am a massage/spa kind of person, but this is great. I received a gift certificate from a friend (one of the best presents I ever got) and it was great. You come out of there very relaxed and calmed. The massage seemed to take away all my cares. The people were very polite, fun, and nice. Although I got a gift certificate, i looked at the normal prices, and it seems like a lot.... but then again... every once in a while you need to pamper yourself.
PROS: wonderful place, with wonderful people
CONS: a little expensive but well worth it.
Walter Andersen's Nursery
I dont think i have ever been to a garden center like this. The staff is wonderful, so friendly and knowledgeable. They seem really excited to help you, and they do actually help you. They made me aware of things that i should be looking for, not just things that look good. They made me consider soil alkalinity, shade, and many other things i really never thought about. The prices are a little bit higher that if you bought them from a huge chain, but they do really seem that they have good quality plants, and the help they give you is priceless.
PROS: great quality and excellent service
CONS: a little pricey (but well worth it)
