Used a Bialek's DJ for my wedding, unfortunately he no longer works for them as he's moved out of the area. He was a wonderful DJ, and Bialek's was very helpful in getting the information I needed to make a decision. The contract was easy to understand and they were very good about following up to make sure I didn't have any outstanding questions about what I agreed to. The have a wide variety of DJ's and bands to choose from, a lot of whom I've heard are excellent entertainers.
I went to Ann's because it was one of very few salons in my area that sold Jim Hjelm dresses. Staff was friendly enough on the phone, but when I got to the store it was a completely different story! The dress selection was good, but Ann was not at all customer friendly. She was very brusque and rude and hurried me through trying on dresses. I didn't stay but 20 minutes and left because I couldn't take her anymore. I definitely won't be returning nor would I recommend her shop to anyone else... there are plenty of other salons in the area that are far superior in customer service!
My first visit to Sugar House was 2 days before my wedding for a swedish massage. The salon area is downstairs, which was a bit nosy, but upstairs I was pampered from the moment I walked in - the atmosphere was just very calm and relaxed. The staff are super friendly, drinks and snacks are provided and I felt like a queen for an hour. My masseuse was wonderful - just the right amount of pressure and I never had to tell her to back off. She put me right to sleep!
The only downside is parking. Old Town isn't an easy place to park, but there is a pay garage about 2 doors down from Sugar House that had pretty reasonable rates if you can't find street parking.
I've been to MFA numerous times to see both a podiatrist and a neurologist. At first I went because one of the doctors was in Washingtonian's Top Docs, and it was close to my office. I've found every department I've been to very helpful and quick (most of the time!). Both doctors were extremely knowledgable and were very personable. I've never had a problem with insurance and billing - which says a lot because my insurance company is a nightmare to deal with. It's also convenient that the hospital is literally a block over and they all have practicing priveledge there!
I went to Jeanette's to look for a bridal gown. I was very impressed with the selection of dresses they had in a variety of price ranges. My consultant was very good about listening to the kind of dress I had in mind and also picking out dresses that would look good on my figure without bringing the most expensive ones on the rack that I had no hope of affording. There was no pressure to buy my dress from them at any time (and I didn't, simply because I found it online for cheaper) On Saturdays it is VERY busy and don't be surprised if you're kept waiting a few minutes for your appointment!
We stayed here for one night in the off season (January) as a splurge during our Big Sur trip. I've never stayed in a place as nice as this, and would happily do so again! Rooms are clean and spacious, beautifully decorated (ours had a fireplace) and overlook the cliff for a view of the Pacific Ocean. Staff are very courteous and helpful, and we enjoyed the wine and cheese reception the evening we checked in. We enjoyed breakfast in our room the following morning - sitting on our patio wrapped up in complimentary robes, sipping tea and munching on croissants while watching the waves crash is a picture that will stay in my head for a long time!
While pricey, we would definitely stay here again in the off-season.
I bought a longline bra for my wedding here. Service was great, all the staff was helpful. Alterations are free, which is an added bonus...but the stuff is a bit pricey. My bra was taken in too much during alterations, and the only solution was to put a bra extender in it, since it couldn't be let out. I probably won't wear it again, so I'm upset I paid a lot for a one-use bra, but it was the only one I found after much looking that didn't show under my dress so it served it's purpose!
I used Fairfax Limo for transportation from the church to the reception for my wedding. They were one of few companies around that would do a "transfer" or "point to point" service without charging a 3 hour minimum. Emails were replied to promptly, and service was always pleasant when dealing with them over the phone. Our driver arrived early and was very friendly. The only down side is I wish it had been less expensive (about $160 for 1 hr) but it was the best price around and we wanted a limo so we were ok paying it.
