Irving's
Irving?s Bagels is a nice State College-only staple. This place should really be called ?Bagels and More? given that their selection of food includes way more than just bagels, which themselves are very good. I would recommend going here for any of your meals, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The staff is friendly and the food is very good.
Ye Olde College Diner
Ye Old College Diner is not much to look at. The big and bright overheard lights make it tough to go in there when it?s at it?s most popular ? really early in the morning. The food is only adequate, but if you?re coming in because it?s too early to go anywhere else, you may not care very much.
The Autoport Hotel State College
The Autoport doubles as a restaurant and a hotel. The restaurant portion is very good. They serve a large variety of drinks and there food is usually very good My wife and I used to enjoy their Sunday brunches, but were disappointed when we went the last time and found that they had cancelled the brunches.
Baby's Burgers & Shakes
This is a nice restaurant for a family or if you?re on a date. The theme of the restaurant is a 1950?s style caf. They serve burgers, shakes, and desserts. The food is also very reasonably priced, though if you are trying to be health conscience, I would only eat maybe once a month. The food can be on the greasy side.
Rockville Public Library
This is a nice library. It looks a little misplaced in Rockville, though. It?s a tall structure with nice architecture. Inside the workers are very nice and courteous. They will help you find your book in no time, if they have it. The only thing is that the selection is not always very large. That is, except for the children?s library which has a lot of selection.
Supercuts
There?s a shortage of hair cut place for men in State College. Not there aren?t a lot of them, but all of them have such long waits, you may be tempted to go to Super Cuts. The place is OK and cheap, but they don?t necessarily give the best haircuts. I have gone here a couple times when I was in a pinch, but I had to wait for hair growth to feel like it was back to normal.
Moyer Jewelers
Moyer?s Jewelers is a nice non-chain place to shop for jewelry. I went here for wife?s engagement ring and the saleswoman worked with me to find the best diamond that fit mine and my now wife?s specs, even though I was picky and went in there several times. No other place was patient with me like that and Moyer?s got my business.
Kranich's Jewelers Inc
Kranich?s is a place where you should go if you appreciate the hard sell on shotty merchandise. The people who worked here were telling me stories about one time sales, which I just happened to walk into. I was shopping for an engagement ring and they said that they did not sell diamonds that weren?t already attached to rings, but any diamond buyer should know that this kid of diamond sale ensured that they buyer can?t see the flaws in the diamond. You should go somewhere else for this item.
Education and Behavioral Science
This portion of the Penn State library is a well organized and nice portion of the library. I may be a little biased since I was a psychology graduate student, but I found materials easy to find in the library. I was also very encouraged by the size of the library. The devotion of PSU to good psychology research is very good.
Physical & Mathematical Scienc
I didn?t have much need to be in the Math library, but I was a Psych grad student and at once point they had a book in there that discusses mathematical cognitve models. I was lost though. The library has a different system which can be confusing to people that don?t know a math library system. I decided to seek help, but at the time, I couldn?t find anyone. If you?re not a math person, you?d be better off going to the campus library.
