Although I have only made relatively small purchases from Norman camera, it is always fun to go there because they know cameras and photography. It is probably cheaper to buy your photography stuff online or at a chain store, but the information and knowledge you can gain from the employees are worth the higher prices. I would really recommend Norman's camera if your interested in getting into photography, but do not know where to start.
Terry hall is the only roller skating rink that I can think of in the Grandville/Jenison/Hudsonville area. It is old, but is still very fun. They allow inline skates and traditional skates. They have food and an arcade. Also, I beleive that they still play Christian music on Saturday afternoon. Good family fun.
My friends and I often go down to the "Dog Pit" and grab a hot dog. They are located right downtown by Rosa Parks Circle. This is nice if you are walking around downtown, but can be an annoyance if you have to park. Their dogs are great, but rather pricey.
Bunnys has great service, although they are smaller they offer a wide range of tuxedo rentals. I can't really compare prices becasue I mostly go here. However they do let you pay a downpayment instead of the entire price. Make sure you know the location, because it is a rather small store on CHicago drive
I like to bowl and Hudsonville lanes because it is clean and well kept. While there aren't as many lanes as nearby Fairlanes, it is much nicer to take your family to Hudsonville Lanes for the atmosphere. Since Hudsonville is relatively quiet, the bowling here is never extreemly busy, except on holidays. This is my favorite place to go bowling.
I grew up bowling at Fairlanes. I like that they have so many lanes, and it is not hard to get a lane. However, it is often smelly and smoky inside. Prices are good, but Friday night "Rock 'N Bowling" is $15. This does seem rather steep, for 3 hours of bowling. However, it is worth it if your have good company, and you are not a cronic bowler :-)
I love gemmens because of the people who work there. WHile you could by many of the products elsewhere for a slighty cheaper price, you gain invaluable knowledge through the employees. They know what they are selling. They also have a good variey of home products and general mechandice. Gemmens is close to my home, so I would rather go here than go to grandville (lowes or home depot).
PROS: Great customer service
CONS: slighty higher prices
I went to the Academy a year ago and toured the facility. As a civilian, you are able to view a few aircrafts, and go inside the famous chapel, it is quite beautiful. There is also a nice gift shop. If you are really interested in the military, it is a worthwile time. Otherwise, you might not get much out of this visit.
I spent a entire Saturday here, and I loved all of it. This museum has huge hangers filled to the max with historical aircraft. Some aircraft of interest include the XB-70 and the YF-22. It would be easy to spend an entire weekend here. There are many displays that are full of historical information. There are also children's displays, so the entire family can find something to enjoy
I can't say enough about this Military museum. This museum has more restored and unique aircraft displays than any other museum I have been through(Besides the USAF museum). I also like the guided tours that are available. If you are a aviation buff, you could easily spend more than one day here. Best of all it is free!
PROS: HUGE amount of displays
CONS: somewhat difficult to get to (inside Naval Air Station)
