Phil's Army & Navy Outdoor
When I needed to buy some items for a rafting trip, I saw how it could get expensive quickly! Buying things online or at a store in Spokane takes time and extra money. My friend and I stopped in to the Army Navy Store because she saw something she was interested in displayed out front. To our surprise we were able to find all of the items we needed for our trip at a lot less than we thought we would have to spend. Chances are it is right on your way so you might as well pop in and check out the selection. The store isn't very big, but they are able to fit a lot in there. True they don't have everything, but you may find yourself surprised with all they do have.
Koerner Furniture
I have never purchased anything at Koerner's. My budget just doesn't allow it. They have some really nice things if you have the money. My grandmother had looked all over for some living room furniture and came up with nothing. At Koerner's she found exactly the styles she wanted and they were able to get it in a fabric she liked as well. The furniture doesn't necessarily look a lot nicer than cheaper items, but it is holding up very well. If you want long lasting quality, this is the place. If you are on a tight budget, you might want to move on.
PROS: Great furniture
CONS: Kind of expensive
Long Ear C D's & Stuff
There are so many mega stores and online sites where you can find music, but Long Ear has a homier feel. It has a great selection and the staff are very friendly and helpful without being in your face or pushy. it is a great place to buy or to just browse. While there you might discover a new favorite band you didn't know existed. Their prices are reasonable too, which isn't always true of smaller places. It is great to be able to have the choice of going to a smaller personalized shop instead of a one-size-fits-all department store that doesn't always fit.
Goetzman Photography
We are kind of cheap, but when we had a family reunion we knew it would be one of few opportunities to get a picture taken of all of us together. George came out with us to a nice setting by the lake and somehow managed to get all of us looking good in the same picture! Not only do we a beautiful family portrait to remember the reunion, but several other pictures of different groupings. The quality is great and George was great to work with. When it comes to special events, it is definitely worth it to have someone like him there to help preserve the memories.
Johns Hopkins University School of Professional Studies In Business and Education
I went to JHU for my Master's degree. I was able to work full-time at my job and take classes in the evenings. Advisors helped me to ensure the classes I took met graduation requirements and fit my needs and interests. The classes I took were actually worthwhile and helpful. Class size was small to allow instructors to actually know us and tailor lectures and hands-on instruction based on our strengths and needs. JHU has many campuses. The Columbia location is small, but modern and conveniently located.
PROS: Great reputation, good education
CONS:
Coeur D'alene Public Library
I have been going to the CdA library forever. It has generally been able to meet my needs and is in a convenient location for me. There is plenty of parking and the staff are friendly and helpful. The building is just so depressing. It feels more like a prison than a library and there really just isn't enough room. If I want to check out a few books it is great. If I need to spend any amount of time actually in the library I would rather drive to the one in Hayden Lake. The building is so much nicer and the atmosphere more open and roomy.
PROS: Plenty of parking, good selection of books
CONS:
DMV
My husband and I both went in to get our driver's licenses the same week. I was there over two hours while he was pretty much in and out. There is a lot of waiting, being called to do a step, and then more waiting until you get called for the next segment. The employees were friendly and seemed to be moving as fast as they could. I guess a lot is luck. If I had known it wasn't always a long wait I would have tried again later or a different day. My advice is to do what you can through the mail so you don't have to go in. If you do have to go in person, don't put it off until the last minute. And, very important, don't forget to take a number when you first walk in or you will not have a place in line.
PROS: Friendly employees and easy to find location
CONS: Who really wants to go to the DMV?
Coeur d'Alene Post Office
I was trying to decide between would not recommend and satisfactory ratings. A lot seems to depend upon luck. The employees are friendly enough, but there just aren't enough of them. Sometimes you may luck out and be in and out quickly while other days you may wait in line for quite some time. There is not enough parking either which can be especially annoying in bad weather or if you have a large package. My advice, don't go when you are in a hurry and try to consolidate trips.
PROS: Friendly employees
CONS: Often long wait
Alpha Health Svc Inc
Alpha Health Services has several intermediate care facilities for individuals with disabilities. In establishments such as these, I think the negative is focused on rather than the good. To put a family member in such a facility is definitely a difficult decision. Alpha, like many places, has Federal and State regulations to comply with along with rules and procedures dictated from management rather than those who work with the individuals. A lot of the quality of living comes down to the individual staff members your loved one encounters. There are some GREAT people out there. Unfortunately low salaries and high turnovers can keep the best from working there. Visit before making the decision and, if you put your loved one in a facility, visit regularly. There is no place like home, but sometimes home is no longer an option when severe or multiple disabilities are involved.
PROS: They can do it when you no longer can
CONS: It's not home
Subaru Stuff Shop
If you have a subaru and need some work done on it, Subaru Stuff Shop might be able to provide you with service that a bigger place does not. Conveniently located on Government Way, Subaru Stuff Shop will fix up your older subaru without costing you an arm and a leg. They specialize in subarus so they know your car. If you want it done well at a reasonable price with friendly service, look no further.
PROS: Cheaper and friendlier than bigger places
CONS:
